I shared a meme on FB, about not supporting trans women in female sports.

A male friend of mine, who is a GP, commented that trans women are real women 🙄 I replied that trans women are men, and that my gripe was men in women’s sports, and men (rapists like Karen White), being housed in female prisons.

He then said that he knew lots of trans men, who just wanted to live a peaceful life, and I’m thinking well yes, because they are actually biologically female!

He then went on to quote all manner of statistics about violence from men against trans women and how trans women are at more risk of violence than cis women (I hate that term). and how cis women are more likely to be attacked by cis men than trans women.

It’s been annoying me all day. Here is another male telling me what to think, but also, whether the violence comes from normal men against trans women (who are men), or trans women against real women, this is essentially a male violence problem.

Because, we as women, aren’t the perpetrators in any of this. So men, stay in your own lane and sort out all your shit. You don’t get to throw the men you don’t like into our lane (bathrooms and prisons), and make us your collateral damage.

YES they are. What other criteria is there other than identifying as a woman? But go on tell us how we can reliably tell if someone is 'genuine' trans or putting it on for nefarious purposes and we can all go 'well that's sorted' and move on.
And saying that if someone commits an assault then they weren't genuine trans is NOT acceptable.

Just a very small sample from the Uk, Ireland and the USA of transgender women (men) convicted of rape and sexual assault, there are many more. Tell me again how these men have turned away from violence linked to masculinity and are no risk to anyone.

Ask him what makes a woman. It was interesting watching Baby Reindeer and the actor who played the trans was a trans. It was bizarre watching a man who is acting feminine acting. And it was just so fake. The sex scene was cringe. All fake. They're men!

What @fungipie - you know every self identified transwoman? I can only applaud you for your absolute, in depth knowledge of that demographic. Can you link to your research that shows that they have all turned "away from violence linked to masculinity"? I'd like to discuss. I have a few outliers in my head: Isla Bryson, Scarlet Blake are just two examples. I guess they must be the exceptions that prove the rule.

Seems to me you've articulated it very clearly, and can send him exactly this.

Could it possibly be that he thinks transmen are males who identify as women, and transwmen females who identify as men? It is a common misapprehension by people who are using the English language grammatically (rather than ideologically).

And it was only one factor for one recent case, being one of many on a list that the perpetrators had made.

Just going by statistics here, he is correct that Trans women (who used to be men to be clear) are very unlikely to attack women. Yes it does happen, but the percentages are very very low.

Ok. So what are transwomen then?

The MOJ figures on trans women in prison don't back up that claim, and are similar to the DOJ figures from the US.

To feel so strongly about this subject is a little strange. All you have stated are the worst-case statistics, such as 92% of crimes are committed by men. Remember, most men don't commit crimes to start with!

Realistically, in a functional real-world scenario, the existence of trans people won't affect you. Maybe the bathroom one will. However, the only outcome of that will be genderless bathrooms, which will guarantee that you see men regardless of your beliefs.

It's gotten to the point where there's such a widely available wealth of evidence of the harms to women in terms of safety, fairness and dignity due to the encroachment of gender ideology that any sort of studied naivety just doesn't cut it.

Toilets (like other single sex facilities) aren't provided on the basis of gender identity; they are provided for differences in biology between the two sexes. Men don't menstruate or miscarry. Women do, and we have the right to privacy.

You know what, you're right! I don't give a flying fuck about abortion laws either, they don't affect me. Nor does equal pay legislation. And as for making rape within marriage illegal, I couldn't give a toss about that, I'm pretty sure DH wouldn't rape me.

And who cares about violent rapists in women's prisons? What a lot of fuss about nothing. I can't see that that's going to have the slightest effect on my life. Plus I don't play sport, so who gives a monkeys about that?

I’m guessing fungipie, if they’ve applied any real thought at all to what defines a transwoman, is of the “TruTrans” (TM) school of thought.

Anyone is trans who says they are, regardless of their genitalia, degree of mutilation of said genitalia or the level of effort they put in to ‘presenting’ as the opposite sex. And they were trans from birth, regardless of how old they were when they ‘realised.’

Unless they commit a sexual or violent crime, in which case they auto-magically revert to “men pretending to be women.”
