Take it away, Dawn!

https://twitter.com/roseveniceallan/status/1782430988066312639

'Mr Speaker, I was quoting Stonewall's briefing, and there was some fallout from this, I've spent the weekend in conversation with Stonewall and Dr Cass.

'Mr Speaker, by quoting this briefing, it seems I may have inadvertently misled the House'.

I'll stick Ross Greer in, too.

'NEW: Scottish Green MSP Ross Greer has told@LBC
he did not describe the Cass report as "transphobic", says he retweeted a tweet by a trans person that did to amplify how trans people were feeling - and says it's up to clinicians to decide on healthcare not politicians'

Wonderful, was coming to post about Dawn.

Keeprejoining · 22/04/2024 17:53

Could you explain what's happening, I'm not on X

WarriorN · 22/04/2024 17:55

Dawn has apologised for inadvertently misleading the house. She spent a lot of time talking to Dr Cass at the weekend.... 👀

I'm still not sure if she's unbelievably stupid, or prepared to look as if she is to maintain her seat on the gravy train.

WarriorN · 22/04/2024 17:59

Who knows what the whip is doing behind the scenes...

Betweenthe2 · 22/04/2024 18:09

Although this thread was clearly created to ridicule I actually think that coming out and admitting you were wrong after new evidence has come to light shows strength of character.

It's much better than being an ideologue who would doggedly stick to a view no matter what evidence they were presented to.

WarriorN · 22/04/2024 18:10

Shall we keep a tally of those who say "I was quoting the stonewall briefing gov"

The pass bucking is going to be interesting

The thread was created to keep track of how the political landscape is shifting post Cass.

I agree that it's good to be willing to change one's mind on the basis of new information/evidence.

Normally I agree, but in DB's case: If she's not thick as mince, she's still an ideologue.

Even in her apology she was blaming the nasty transphobes (in this case, meaning the ones who actually read the report and didn't outsource their thinking to a lobby group, presumably).

She's a dangerous idiot who shouldn't be anywhere near the legislature.

But… ‘200 studies which contradict the Cass findings’. So presumably she hadn’t actually read them ? Not even the synopses ?

edited for plural

Keeprejoining · 22/04/2024 18:16

Thanks, I hope many more start to read the room and join her

WarriorN · 22/04/2024 18:16

I'm still not applauding that woman!

She read the room. Or was whipped.

SidewaysOtter · 22/04/2024 18:19

It is good to see people realising they’ve been taken for a ride but less good to see them trying to dead cat their way out by still blaming GC campaigners.

I can spit further than I trust her.

Waitwhat23 · 22/04/2024 18:25

I did have a far more considered post written out but honestly, when it comes down to it, Ross Greer can fuck right off.

I suppose it's an attempt to stop the pile on from the TRAs

BeBraveLittlePenguin · 22/04/2024 18:31

So listen to Stonewall and (a) mislead the HoP and/or (b) get sued.

Gosh, what a tempting proposition for all those companies who outsourced their thinking.

ApocalipstickNow · 22/04/2024 18:34

I think that there will be a lot of people, post Cass, who say “I was misled/I didn’t have all the info” who will change their tune, but as they’ve spent so long slagging off feminists for pointing all this out they will feel unable to accept they are the same as the majority of posters here now. So they will point out that of course it’s wrong to give unevidenced medication to minors- absolute common sense- but those TERFs and bigots over there were only ever using this as an excuse for their hatred of trans people, it’s just coincidence they were right and it can’t possibly be that any animosity towards TRAs and lobbyists is out of anger towards their cavalier attitude towards children’s health. It’s just lucky for them they accidentally were right, not like me, I’ve only ever been in this for all our trademarked Lovely Trans Friends and our Little Trans Kiddos in our constituencies etc etc blah do fucking blah.

There was a whiff of this on the Private Eye podcast that touched on puberty blockers. “I am clever and can see this is terrible, you on the other hand are fortunate that the evidence justifies your horrible bigotry.”

Its all a bit “I’m still right side of history, you’re still the baddies.”

Years ago on here someone posted that when things start to crumble the feminists will still be blamed. They were not wrong.

Tallisker · 22/04/2024 18:35

Who's this Dr Cazz that she spent the weekend talking to?

CorruptedCauldron · 22/04/2024 18:35

This is disappointing from Dawn, she had an opportunity here to show good grace. She admitted she got it wrong but then couldn’t resist sticking the boot in.

To state the report has been hijacked by anti-trans activists is absolutely outrageous. As far as I’ve seen, people on the gender-critical side of the debate have not made anything up or spread any misinformation about this report. All the lies and misinterpretations have come from the TRA side.

Just own it, Dawn, you were so close for a moment there.

WarriorN · 22/04/2024 18:55

<Snort>

Even stonewall are blaming stone wall 🙃😆

Shurely

'We are sorry that we don't employ anyone who can read a clinically informed report, despite the fact that we campaign among other things on health care issues. This and our biases caused us to do kneejerk briefings to decision makers, misleading the legislature. Our poor work meant that Dr Cass had to spend additional time following her 4 year review to stop us doing further damage.

We are reflecting now on our approach to this and are considering whether to move our campaigning to other issues, such as international partnerships with NGOs working in countries where being gay or gender non-conforming, never mind marrying someone you love of the same sex, is illegal'.
