Take it away, Dawn!

https://twitter.com/roseveniceallan/status/1782430988066312639

'Mr Speaker, I was quoting Stonewall's briefing, and there was some fallout from this, I've spent the weekend in conversation with Stonewall and Dr Cass.

'Mr Speaker, by quoting this briefing, it seems I may have inadvertently misled the House'.

Good point Arabella we don't know if it was voluntary or something the labour party leadership asked her to do, presumably so they'd look a bit less batshit to voters.

Shall we keep a tally of those who say "I was quoting the stonewall briefing gov"

The pass bucking is going to be interesting

What was Alison Bailey's appeal about???!

IcakethereforeIam · 23/04/2024 09:47

Watching it, I got the feeling that her statement was mandated. The Labour bigwigs, the whips, her local party, all of them, none of them?

I'd like to think she did it because Dr Cass's legal team told her to or else off her own bat.

I’m fascinated that Dr Cass has taken the time to engage with Stonewall and Dawn. She really is a woman of class and steel.

This fascinates me too! She must be an absolute powerhouse- she picks up the phone, organises meetings with those organisations who have disparaged her report and within hours they are issuing sorry ma’am, yes ma’am, we will correct the record immediately ma’am tweets.

The woman is a bloody force of nature. I am so, so impressed.

Although this thread was clearly created to ridicule I actually think that coming out and admitting you were wrong after new evidence has come to light shows strength of character.

It's much better than being an ideologue who would doggedly stick to a view no matter what evidence they were presented to.

Its why I'm impressed with wes streeting.

Hes actively clarifying his stance when he could stay silent and hes not blaming others, he's stated that he has looked into it and changed his views on some points.

Bulters comment seemed forced and not genuine, which indicates her opinions haven't really changed.

I suppose as long as starmer keeps her away from responsible positions, it doesnt matter too much.

It's Kate Osbourne I'm watching

I'll bring you a blanket and a flask of tea. I suspect it's going to be a long wait.

Dr Cass would make an excellent candidate for woman of the year.

Slight derail but do we know if Dawn has taken the big pharma shilling?

IcakethereforeIam · 23/04/2024 11:40

Apparently ferrets can suffer from motion sickness 😥

Butler has had donations from Anthony Watson, on board of GLAAD.

Can confirm am feeling quite dizzy.

Crankywiddershins · 23/04/2024 11:48

Do you know where I can buy tiny sick bags? I think we're gonna need 'em!

Do we know that Butler made that apology/statement off her own bat?

I doubt it, she lied to parliament in a very obvious and provable manner, that lie would likely have lead to an investigation by the parliamentary standards committee and a finding of guilt. The last thing starmer and Labour needs going into a general election is a sitting mp being sanctioned by the standards committee for lying about the cass review

HoneyButterPopcorn · 23/04/2024 17:32

She did lie then. You can’t just say ‘whoopsy my bad’. She is supposed to be an honest person.

CarobBean72 · 24/04/2024 07:35

Dawn Butler is never going to get a ministerial post under any sane leadership.
So her best self-interested bet is to keep the GLAAD shillings coming.

Wes Streeting, on the other hand, has the air of someone who has been dreaming of being PM since he was nine. He still has greasy poles to climb. Once it was by black listing feminists, then it was making hitlists of Labour Party TERFs to expel, and now it’s by backing evidence-based medicine.

Well doesn't that make Wes sound like an absolute weasel excellent prime ministerial candidate?

That is an excellent idea...
Although JKR...
Tough choice!

IcakethereforeIam · 24/04/2024 08:54

Nobel bloody prize! All the BEs. Is she a Dame? 'Cos there's nothing like a. Gold medal at Chelsea. Cycling proficiency. All those buttons that YouTube sends out. 1 billion tesco club card points. Best in show. And a mug with 'World's Best' then a blank space so she can write whatever she wants.

Wes was on Shelagh Fogartys show yesterday or Monday (available to listen again) - I was only half listening but Rosie Duffield, JKR mentioned. I’m going to listen properly later. Shelagh as ever asking the right questions to the right people!

Shurely

'We are sorry that we don't employ anyone who can read a clinically informed report, despite the fact that we campaign among other things on health care issues. This and our biases caused us to do kneejerk briefings to decision makers, misleading the legislature. Our poor work meant that Dr Cass had to spend additional time following her 4 year review to stop us doing further damage.

We are reflecting now on our approach to this and are considering whether to move our campaigning to other issues, such as international partnerships with NGOs working in countries where being gay or gender non-conforming, never mind marrying someone you love of the same sex, is illegal'.

Well corrected!

Ofcourseshecan · 24/04/2024 10:08

Beep beep beep beep. Watch out, truckload of ferrets reversing. They can give a nasty bite if cornered….

Well… yes, indeed.

But I’m muttering “golden bridge, golden bridge” to myself.

And somebody is going to be PM.

Snowypeaks · 24/04/2024 21:59

Good to see unequivocal statements about women and women's rights. I'm glad that Gillian Keegan changed her mind.

Rather weird digs at Victoria Atkins, though. So what if she met and talked to Stonewall? Lobby groups are entitled to promote their cause. What should not then happen is what seems to have happened with Stonewall's MPs contacts - ie the MPs suspended critical thinking and surrendered decision-making to the lobby group. And they spoke only to Stonewall. As an MP and even more as a minister, what you should do is listen to a range of views, and then make up your own mind.
