Take it away, Dawn!

https://twitter.com/roseveniceallan/status/1782430988066312639

'Mr Speaker, I was quoting Stonewall's briefing, and there was some fallout from this, I've spent the weekend in conversation with Stonewall and Dr Cass.

'Mr Speaker, by quoting this briefing, it seems I may have inadvertently misled the House'.

This is disappointing from Dawn, she had an opportunity here to show good grace. She admitted she got it wrong but then couldn’t resist sticking the boot in.

To state the report has been hijacked by anti-trans activists is absolutely outrageous. As far as I’ve seen, people on the gender-critical side of the debate have not made anything up or spread any misinformation about this report. All the lies and misinterpretations have come from the TRA side.

Just own it, Dawn, you were so close for a moment there.

Now it’s all coming out, who do you think it’s easier to piss off? The women who will chunter on Mumsnet and email their local MPs or the “loose cannon” TRAs who will send death threats, trash your reputation and generally make things an absolute nightmare for you until the next person comes along? 🤔

Those ferrets are going to get pretty dizzy soon

Ferrets in full reverse in Scotland.

Wings Over Scotland
It appears that the leadership of the Scottish Greens have deleted ALL their tweets about the Cass Review.

Patrick Harvie, Lorna Slater, Maggie Chapman and Ross Greer's accounts have, as far as I can tell, been wiped clear of all references to Cass.

Patrick Harvie! My god, when the pendulum swings back to common sense, it swings hard. He would have hated having to do this so much.

WarriorN · 23/04/2024 06:40

Who else has wiped the slate? 🤔

Waitwhat23 · 23/04/2024 06:41

Harvie will be raging. Shame that.

Just for posterity -

I’m fascinated that Dr Cass has taken the time to engage with Stonewall and Dawn. She really is a woman of class and steel.

Although this thread was clearly created to ridicule I actually think that coming out and admitting you were wrong after new evidence has come to light shows strength of character.

It's much better than being an ideologue who would doggedly stick to a view no matter what evidence they were presented to.

Or mummy has marched you weeping to your friends house to apologise for being mean to her little brother.

Sometimes you mean it and sometimes you don’t (and know you’d do it again).

Yep, Dawn can piss off the women of Mumsnet all she likes and will never have to fear for her personal safety. Very convenient if you need a get out of jail free card to appease the TRAs.

Without the ridicule, there'd be no need for the strength of character.

This is a cautionary tale about the dangers of outsourcing one's critical thinking faculty to a bunch of self-interested ideologists.

I wonder when Noakes, Harris et al will do a bit of reverse ferreting. Noakes did sit in Parliament when the response to the Cass report was being debated but she was probably trying to work out how others were managing before stepping in. Makes ya laugh

Suzanne Moore has written in the Telegraph

https://archive.ph/HB5KO bypass the paywall

I don't know why the archived version is all in italics.

I think she's wrong at the end

Until fairly recently, it has been heresy to do so. Those still defending the sterilisation and mutilation of children are exposing themselves daily. Of course, they are squirming because it was never about the children for them; it was about proving their own purity to the other cult members. The kids were just collateral damage in a culture war we were told was not actually real.

I think for some it absolutely is about the kids. A minority because they get off on it, but the majority because they need the converts. Partly to indoctrinate them young but also because every damaged child brings family and friends who will be the staunchest of allies. The shock troops who cannot back down. who have to support their loved one so that they can live with what's been done to them, what they colluded in.

People are in denial following the Cass report – it’s like deprogramming cult members

The reactions of gender zealots to their folly being exposed range from notably silent to dangerously delusional

From Hansard:

Caroline Nokes:

'Dr Cass’s observations about violent and degrading pornography are chilling, and we know of the impact that is having not just on young girls but on all our young people. Her recommendations also include significant and specific references to expanded services and follow-through services for 17 to 25-year-olds. What concerns has my right hon. Friend about the capacity for that, and about the possible impact on other areas of healthcare?

We know that the transition from children’s services to adult services can be problematic in the case of a wide range of services, not least for those suffering from body dysmorphia or eating disorders. Might there be any crossover, with young people having access to some sort of interim service before the age of 25, and will more funds be committed so that we do not continue to see what all of us will face in our constituencies: the horror of young people being unable to access child and adolescent mental health services before they turn 18 and become reliant on adult mental health care?'

Thanks @ArabellaScott, but did she wilfully misunderstand the Cass Report?

If that was the case, I'd agree, but IMO Butler has aggressively pushed this ideology knowing it made no sense and was actively harmful, with tons of evidence to support this position (which she knew about) as it was useful for her politically to do so. She deliberately looked no further, refused to examine evidence from whistleblowers or testimony from detransitioners and stuck her head in the sand for YEARS, dismissing the very many concerns about the impact on women and children.

She KNEW what she said about Cass was wrong. She's only apologising now because she's realising the wheels are coming off and she can't carry on with her anti-science lies without being called out on them by a wider group of people than vulnerable women and children.

Do we know that Butler made that apology/statement off her own bat?
