Is "openly Jewish" a hate crime under the April Fools Scottish hate crime law?

lechiffre55 · 19/04/2024 19:59

A Metropolitan police officer threatened to arrest a man for being "Openly Jewish" in London. Is this a hate crime in Scotland under the new hate crime laws?

I think it is. Could someone report it for me please I find it incredibly offensive and racist. I want to see what happens when Scottish Police try to get involved with racist actions taken by the Metropolitan Police.

'People in Muslim attire are a frequent sight on this demonstrations. Hijabs are very commonplace.' and your point is?

Would they be allowed outside a Jewish school or Synagogue? You know very well that the clear answer is NO.

Untrue.

But what is this complete idiocy of being anti zionist I Wonder?
The state Israel was created by the UN in 1948. It was set up in the traditional jewish homelands where there already were jews living. The brits and the French «owned» this region after ww1 when they fought and won the Ottoman overlords. They fought with arabs from the area, but come on: The British and the French ruled the World at this point.
So the Israeli state is well established at this point in time. It cannot be undone. Except by massive bloodshed.

Lest we forget, the whole solid reason it was created as a nation state for jewish people in the first place was the Holocaust. How can people ignore this? It is so sad and unbelieveable.

In comparison, Ukraine gained their independence from Soviet/Russia in 1991. It had been a vassal state for centuries before that.

Edited

This!

I can’t phathom the arrogance of fools who have decided a LEGALLY recognised state, in existence long before they were even born probably, should not exist. Of course saying Israel shouldn’t exist is anti semetic. It’s the only Jewish state to exist. You could say the US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand should not exist either.

Imagine a non Muslim saying Islamic states should not exist. Would that not be Islamophobic?

This is what we have to deal with; self-righteous vicious anti-semitic twats. Sure, those Israeli women raped themselves.
This person would be first in line to herd me off to the concentration camp, just like the Germans who wiped out my grandfather's family.

Edited

And filmed themselves doing it and posted the footage to hamas' own social media feeds. Sneaky.

I most certainly do not know that, please educate me; do you have any evidence of women in hijabs being threatened, abused or told to move away from Jewish schools or synagogues. Extra points if it's the police telling them it's because they're "outwardly muslim".

lechiffre55 · 22/04/2024 21:14

It's my understanding that the state of Isreal has a very long memory when it comes to those who have harmed or would do harm to Israel and Israelis. They are very busy with Hamas and the other big fish of the region right now. But it will be interesting to see what happens in the future when things are a lot quieter and they turn their attention to the smaller fish.
They have some notable cock ups under their belt, but in general they tend to be very good at that kind of stuff, and I don't imagine they will be in a very forgiving mood for a very long time to come. Perhaps just leave them alone, and they will leave you alone.

The policing of these protests has been dire. We're lectured about the right to peaceful protest while the police are proceeding on the basis that a riot or a lynching is about to kick off. Worse, they think the just way to deal with that is to bully any unfortunate Jewish person, Iranian, poppy-seller or counter-protestor who might be a candidate for a beating into getting off the street. We've seen multiple examples of the police threatening actually peaceful people 'for their own good' and multiple incidents of the marchers harassing and intimidating anyone who attracts their ire (sometimes just for existing). How peaceful is a protest when the police are in a constant flop-sweat of panic trying to stamp out these fires? And, yes, there are Jewish people on these marches and they have the right to be there, but let's not pretend that doesn't slap an even bigger target on the back of every Jewish person who is not on the march.

very poor choice of words by the officer concerned.

would reccommend everyone watch the full video rather than the short clip though...

"FACT."

  • Yep that's exactly how it works, when you post in all caps that proves you are right. Using the word fact makes it double true. That's exactly how it works.....

😁my thoughts exactly

Saturday is Shabbat, if you were not formerly aware. This is the day when Jewish people go to the synagogue.

People in Muslim attire are a frequent sight on this demonstrations. Hijabs are very commonplace.

Your personal persepctive is not the same thing as truth or fact. Geniocide is a contesed term -woith along history. If Israel had really wanted to conduct a 'genocide' there would be no people left alive in Gaza at all - given Israel's military strength.

Genocide involves active intention to destroy a population for no other reason than hatred of that population. this is exactly what Hamas did on October 7th. It was not a miltary campaign - it was a campaign of terror - killing, beheading , rapoing , burning men women and children, and taking people hoistage.

Edited

And I am sure there are still Jewish women and children being kept prisoner by Hamas. God knows what they are going through every day.

Should Isreal forget them?

If Hamas had launched similar attack in the UK do you think that our government would have let it go unanswered? Butchery and rape of innocent unarmed people?

Israel doesn't want to continue with this war. Hamas provoked it and are the only ones benefitting from it.

I feel so sorry for the civilians of Gaza - but I feel sorry for the Israeli citizens who have been brutalised, too. I wish there was a simple way of ending it, but I can't.

localnotail · 22/04/2024 21:55

I honestly want ordinary Palestinians to be spared the horror they are experiencing now, and I feel frustrated and upset over the occupation and ongoing struggle between Israel and Palestine - but I'm also horrified at the level of Anti-Semitism unleashed by this conflict, this is disguising and awful - from close friend suddenly saying "Israel made up the October 7th rapes, Jews are known for lying" to this, a guy apparently being told by the MET! he cant be "openly Jewish"... Fucking hell, I would react the same way if Muslims were treated as Jews are treated now, it really scares me to imagine Hitler smiling in his grave... where are we going with all this, how soon it will be ok to kill someone because they are of "inferior" religion/ affiliation?

They are missing you at Middle Eastern Conflict Board.
But since you are so interested, but clearly not knowledgeable in the matter, go and figure out who sentenced Moshe Katsav (former president of Israel) for prison. Hint: Judge was an Israeli Arab, muslim. No one bat an eye.

Now, it is your time to explain, why do you omit pogrom at the 7th, and how this is relevant to British citizen being imitated at the streets of London? You can't have it both ways. 2/3 of young British Jews already think about immigration to Israel. As someone so opposite to existence of Jewish state you should do everything to make sure those people start to feel safe in the UK.

Edit: As tonight its beginning of Pesach you will see more kippahs on the street. Hopefully celebrations won't be too provocative.

This is very sad - Jewish Britons have brought so much to this nation. They are a huge asset to the country and we would all be impoverished if they left.

Judaism is the basis of my own Christian faith. It is the one that all tenets of our present-day morality is built on. I'm not saying that other countries didn't have similar laws (eg Hammurabi) but Judaism goes back much further. It is the original "do as you would be done by" with respect not only for human life but for animal welfare. We have all benefitted from its teachings and the 10 main commandments, even if we aren't Jews, and even if we have no faith of any type.

We were discussing hate crime . . . Not Netanyahu (whom I personally detest).

I know very little about him @Larklane , but a colleague that I respect a lot tld me he is power-hungry.

The whole situation both in Israel/ Palestine and here at home is too sad for words.

I see a post got deleted. Im not questioning that in the slightest, but sometimes its very powerful when they tell you who they are. Everyone gets to see it.
I know project let them speak is about the debate over gender critical beliefs and conflicts around women's rights but it seems to apply to anti-semitism too.

I agree. Sometimes these posts are better left to stand. I'd rather see a person exposed for who they really are, than be left in doubt by a deletion message.

Thre's one really vivid image from the October 7th massacre that will stick with me forever. The Body of a young woman sripped naked draped over the front bonnet of like a truck. Terrorists all over the vehicle, I think one even had his feet resting on the body of the naked woman. It reminded me of a deer draped over an american hunter's bonnet. It was clear from that photos they felt no humanity towards her, than she was less than an animal to them. I dread to think what else they had done to her. It wasn't clear if she was alive or dead.
I remember in the aftermath one father praying that his missing child was dead that the child might be spared what they would have to endure if they were still alive. For a parent to hope their child is dead I can't imagine how much that must feel like.

And then you get the genuis squad coming along to explain to us how both it never happened, and was a conspiracy, and "FACT.", and all the rest. I remember LOJ "where's the video of the rapes then?" and if you had produced the videos of the rapes I'm sure that would just be met by "well if they videoed it, they knew it was going to happen, so that proves it was a set up".
Some people are just utterly lost.

LadyGooGa, I will not respond to your accusations of racism. This is not about race, at all. This is about one people being dispossessed of their land and rights, oppressed in so many ways, and for such a long time. And now obliterated by this so called 'war'.

One man is being asked to avoid a certain area at a certain sensitive time, to protect him and to avoid confrontation and escalation. The policeman, in a difficult situation, tried to protect him and went about it, in the heat and stress of the moment, in a bit of a cake handed way.

In the meantime, Palestinians, huge numbers are being bombed, starved, oppressed in so many ways, large numbers children, in Gaza. But it pales into insignificance re that man being told to stay away from the march, for his own safety. And all over the rest of Palestine and the West Bank- Palestinians, boys, men and others too, are being intimidated, their land stolen and their livelihood destroyed, their olive groves and farmland burnt and destroyed, and if they dare complain, they get beaten and even shot in the back or the head. With the IDF closing a blind eye, or even approving, or even helping. But that is NOT racist, is it? Of course not.

No point arguing with you. You obviously know how Jews feel and that you feel you can argue with a Jew about what is or isn’t racist, and have seen first hand what is going on in the region. Best wishes.

Read the above and tell me if this is not hate crime we should be acknowledging and discussing.

What will happen to the illegal settlements which were never ever meant to be part of the 1948 agreed settlements. ILLEGAL and so so cruelly taken. Where is the right of Palestinians to protect themselves?
