Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

Does anyone else not care if a 'hate incident' is recorded against them?

For some people it will mean absolutely nothing. Especially older people with no intention of applying for a job.

What does is really matter? They don't tell you so it's not going to worry you. There's no crime so you haven't broken the law. There's no fine, prosecution or imprisonment.

It's a non crime.

Personally I don't mind if it's recorded somewhere that I did not commit a crime.

Obviously people in work who need a clear DBS will be frightened into submission by this law but there must also be lots of us who aren't?

There you go folks.

If you mention anything from the daily mail you deserve to be taken away by the Gestapo, and posters here would support living in a society that behaves like this.

Reading some of these posts is incredible. It really is comparable to the period you mention.

MissLucyEyelesbarrow · 26/03/2024 09:43

Ah yes, it's always the way that we raise concerns that's the issue, isn't it, and not the concerns themselves.

There is another thread running on here about a man using a women's changing room with a semi-naked child (unrelated to him) present, and some posters are complaining that the woman who told staff about this was too shouty. Remember, Ladies, you must always be docile and feminine when protecting a child from a sex offender.

When you know you haven't got a leg to stand on, your only recourse is to complain about how the other side does things. You can't engage with our actual arguments, because you know you'll lose.

There are no arguments to be bad when you don’t know the difference between sex and gender. We simply can’t discuss this until you’re ready and have done a bit of reading.

It’s also very draining speaking to people like you. I am not going to try and convince BNP members that I am a person worthy of respect ; I do not always have it in me to convince you these are people and the language you use is awful and roughly the same used to describe gay men in the 80s. Sexual pervert, corrupting kids blah blah blah. I’m not even trans!

Sometimes people get the message by education and lessons in basic decency and sometimes “the moon is made of cheese/vaccines cause autism/5G causes cancer” crowd can be assumed beyond savings and laughed at.

I am very worried about extension of government powers but yes a lot of you should be on a list.

Fucking hell.

I quite like the idea of being on a list.

I wonder if they'll warn delivery drivers about me???

GrumpyPanda · 26/03/2024 10:07

WallaceinAnderland · 25/03/2024 15:05

What does it matter if you never did anything criminal but the police kept records of you regardless, on the basis that someone phoned them to tell them and tell on you? Is that a serious question?

Well, that's what I'm pondering. In practice, to some people, it really does not matter, they will not be affected and may not even know about it.

Well I'm of the generation that fought for data protection laws, so hell yes it matters. Did the British media ever cover the Swiss secret services misconduct in the 90s? Turned out they'd been keeping files on a significant chunk of the population, including many MPs. The file on one female parliamentarian included such gems as "likes to have a beer at night." So.... harmless, surely?

DialSquare · 26/03/2024 10:12

I quite like the idea of being on a list.

But in the theme of Groucho Marks, would you really want to be on a list that has you on it?!!

moderate · 26/03/2024 10:19

Hagpie · 25/03/2024 18:40

I don’t make hateful comments or indeed say anything targeting vulnerable groups so I think 99.9% of people will be fine.

Who cares if some retiree wants to be racist or spend the last of their deluded days rattling off against “men” in dresses to their carers? A police officer who might be called in to take a report for a trans person facing DV though? Unacceptable.

I am very worried about extension of government powers but yes a lot of you should be on a list. It’s a tricky one.

Also without reading the thread how do I know this isn’t you guys doing BLM stuff or holding the govt. to account over ableism? Pathetic.

“First they came for the people standing against misogyny and homophobia

and I did not stand up because I lacked the wit to understand the misogyny and homophobia.”

What do you mean the difference between sex and gender? Sex is male or female, it's non negotiable, no one can change sex! Gender is a social construct, or a made up load of old bollocks in my opinion.
What's the BNP got to do with anything?
I also find the gay bashing of the 80s hateful and vile, but that has no bearing on what is being discussed here.
Well you just described yourself perfectly in that last sentence. Beyond help, laughed at and ridiculed, that's just charming!

Yes, that struck me, too. I wonder how the poster would feel, if the Tories brought in something similar, but operating opposite to the Scottish one and they ended up on a list?

Good grief! Have you actually read any posts at all, on FWR? Every poster on this thread and the wider board knows exactly what the difference is.

And from Lucy's post, I can't understand how you even came to that conclusion, it's simply nonsensical.

DialSquare · 26/03/2024 10:31

Would it be exclusionary of me to say that I wouldn't?

I wouldn't too. I feel terrible for not being inclusive now. I'm a LERF.

SinnerBoy · 26/03/2024 10:35

I would be affected, if I were to go on a list. I need visas to work abroad and that could scotch any chance. I work for a number of different companies and a couple will ask annually, for a DBS check.

Sorry Wicked! List Exclusionary Radical Feminist!

Back to the thread. I personally wouldn't really be affected if I was on a list. But the whole shitshow around this will be enormous. I still can't believe it's been allowed to stand.

SinnerBoy · 26/03/2024 10:51

Even if we aren't affected personally, it's a sinister, insidious act, contrary to justice, in my opinion. A secret judgement against you, which you can't know about, unless by serendipity and one which is very difficult to challenge.

A situation for which the adjective Kafkaesque is perfect.

EasternStandard · 26/03/2024 11:31

When I think how many reports mnhq alone likely get on this site and then extrapolate it to nearly the whole world reading stuff online and getting upset at whatever

How on earth is this going to work? How has Scotland decided this is plausible

WallaceinAnderland · 26/03/2024 12:02

This thread was reminding me of the privileged women who can say 'I don't care about men in a changing room or toilet because it doesn't affect or bother me' with the subtext of (and I don't care therefore about any other women or the ethics and issues).

I very much do care about other women and I know how badly this is going to affect women's rights unless it is challenged.

I'm thinking more about the fact that some of us are not as shackled by circumstances at the moment and could maybe take one for the team. Such as JKR is likely to but not on that scale as I don't hold that much influence.

Those of us who don't mind being on the Stasi list and who are not personally in danger of losing jobs could get reporting all hate aimed at groups such as LGB Alliance, for homophobia.

The fact that you can report anonymously direct to Police Scotland might mean that they don't bother trying to find you but will still have to put in the work. The sooner they get tired of this, the sooner they will stop it imo.

I find the moon is made of cheese people to be more equivalent to the people who believe that men are women. Both things can be throughly debunked by facts.

Dorriethelittlewitch · 26/03/2024 12:27

I am very worried about extension of government powers but yes a lot of you should be on a list.

Given that I always get swabbed for explosives and searched on leaving the country, I suspect I'm already on one!

However whats your thoughts on the following:

Any discussion on abortion and potential amendments regarding Down Syndrome
Women deserving female only rape services or medical examiners
Israel and Palestine

Even moderate stances on all of those could easily be reported as hate if noticed by the "wrong" people (I.e. anyone who disagrees or has an axe to grind). How can we discuss and debate anything if it can be immediately shut down and the police involved?

I still have relatives in Russia and I find this terrifying.

StealthSpinach · 26/03/2024 12:37

Hmmm…
I wonder if Hagpie knows MargarittaPie?

The gleeful telling off and insults to the women of FWR, coupled with bizarre detours in thought - may suggest kindred spirits? I’m sure they’d mesh well.

Misogyny isn't covered by the bill though unfortunately.

  • Race
  • Religion
  • Disability
  • Sexual orientation
  • Transgender identity

I find the whole thing extremely concerning. The police have said the name will be noted on the file of the person reporting it - but they can report it anonymously, so where does the 'offenders' name go then?

April 6th in Edinburgh will be interesting. I hope many women turn out.
