Woke change to England flag.

Surely flags are flags but no Nike did a 'playful update' adding trans colours to the England football kit.

Imagine changing the flag of others countries!

What is it with companies like Nike that they have to push trans down everyone's throats.

I can't comment on the St George's Cross as I'm Scottish, but if the FA or any sports manufacturer messed with the Saltire there would be a stooshie of epic proportion. We're not flag shaggers, we're proud Scots.

TathingScinsel · 22/03/2024 10:07

The 66 training kit is red, white and blue with the 3 lions. Can’t see how it inspired a pink-blue gradient St George’s cross.

Woke change to England flag.
Lifeinlists · 22/03/2024 10:09

Is there a flag for every sexual preference now? Why?

What's DM, you're the second person who says they dislike DM, what do you mean?
Sorry Op. I was attempting to quote another poster. DM refers to the daily mail. Apparently if you don't think a country's flag should be changed you are a raving mad daily mail reader.

Wrong

TathingScinsel · 22/03/2024 10:09

Unless it’s to do with the way old red dyes ran and made your white’s pink?

I'm Scottish as well (living in England£ and I find the attitudes of some English people towards their own flag quite bizarre. As you say, they would be an uproar in Scotland if they messed with the Saltire. I think the ambivalence of some English people towards the St George's cross is why Nike felt able to mess with it.

That's actually really nice. They should be selling that.

I wonder if people would be more understanding and if any other countries’ flags have been changed

Just heard on the news Germans annoyed at switching from Adidas to Nike for their kit

They'd better bloody not touch our beloved draig goch! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

Yes, it has classic, retro appeal.

And it was made by Umbro, I believe, which is an English company, founded in 1924

I’m not particularly patriotic but surely international sport is the one occasion where participants nationality and thus national pride of spectators and supporters comes to the forefront?

Besides anything else, this Nike version is just crap graphic design.

Haven't RTFT, OP, so apologies if this has already been pointed out. They're not "trans colours", don't even look like them.
Nike says it's meant to recall the 1966 side, which doesn't seem inappropriate! I can understand traditionalists being upset, though, because it's not immediately recognisable as the flag of St George.

Absolutely agree
Its posts like this that immediately blame anything on Trans or Woke that stop people listening to the legitimate concerns women have around Trans issues such as Men in Women only spaces or hormones for children. Worry about that, not a piece of bloody material (which isnt even in the Trans colours anyway)

I doubt it’s ‘trans’, it’s more likely just general ‘diversity’ ie talking about uniting. That’s the point of the flag as pp says, why change it?

Plus I doubt other countries would be fine with their piece of material changing

Snowypeaks · 22/03/2024 10:31

Iirc, there's white in the trans flag as well, so no reason to read anything into the designer leaving out the white from the 1966 collar and cuffs.

uhOhOP · 22/03/2024 10:34

Gnarly · 22/03/2024 09:28

I don't see trans colours. I see navy, light blue and purple, and on the vertical line, red and pink.

Trans colours are pale pink, pale blue and white I believe.

Yeah, these are not the trans flag colours. These colours are a lot closer to those of the lesbian flag.

They have obviously gone so woke that they hate white people

McPancreas · 22/03/2024 10:39

Whilst Nike definitely partake in cringey attempts to ‘improve society’ by playing along with the nonsense people can change sex, I don’t see this design as part of that.

TathingScinsel · 22/03/2024 10:42

uhOhOP · 22/03/2024 10:34

Naw, the lesbian flag is orange and pink. You are thinking of the bisexual flag.

Woke change to England flag.
Woke change to England flag.
Iamtheoneinten · 22/03/2024 10:48

Well, Keir and Emily Thornberry (always a George Cross fan, that one…not) are totally in agreement.
There must be a general election in the offing…

Cazpar · 22/03/2024 10:50

Bloody hell this thread.

Nothing to do with trans yet made out to be trans.

Association of being trans with paedophilia (by more than one poster).

And people say there's no transphobia on MN...

Mumsnut · 22/03/2024 10:57

Well ... if the people who generally fork out £125 on a replica t-shirt don't, because they dislike the tinkering, I guess Nike won't make money. If they do buy it, it clearly isn't an issue with many people, and Nike will make money.

So it will be self-correcting.

PatatiPatatras · 22/03/2024 11:01

To be a fly on the wall of the Nike marketing team. Quickly scrubbing all reference to "inclusion" from their packs and replacing it with "uniting".

The subtleties, oh the subtleties.

I'm certain this has no focus on the T but I bet my bottom dollar this was seen as a nod to DEI.

It's woke.

As far as I can make out this board is full of bigots so it fits nicely.
