Woke change to England flag.

Surely flags are flags but no Nike did a 'playful update' adding trans colours to the England football kit.

Imagine changing the flag of others countries!

What is it with companies like Nike that they have to push trans down everyone's throats.

Have you ever been to a football match, much of the chants are of an enlightened nature to say the least and that's as much explanation as I can be bothered with.

Yes I have, I have been to lots thanks.

But then surely we want to challenge the “average footie lad?” And change the culture the “average footie lad” creates at football matches? Surely the “average footie lad” not liking a top can only be a positive thing if they are the ones singing the non-PC songs?

Nothing to do with trans yet made out to be trans.

Quite. And all of these flags! Who knew? (I didn’t, I just go about my own business and leave others to go about theirs)

Take two steps to the left.
Then a jump to the right.
Give the door a push
Then disappear into the night.

Some of these outrages can be media driven (which the media has done by deliberately asking Rishi and Kier for their opinions), but what this sums up is this feeling of corporate wokeness being enforced on everyone.

Whilst it may not have been done on purpose to look like an LGBTTIQQ2SA+ flag, the public have grown tired and are immediately suspicious of things being replaced with stripes. Nike and the FA should've been aware of this.

People are on the lookout for this sort of thing now, and particularly with Nike's history of employing a female impersonator.

@Boiledbeetle very mature. i clearly meant how do i block it so it doesn't show in my "i'm on"

There are lots of countries where flag 'desicration' is illegal including 'defacing it with slogans' including countries like France, Germany and Austia.
This shows that Nike should have been a bit more aware that changing a flag might create a backlash and been a bit more foresighted about the cultural impliications.
They are based in Oregon and I think that there is a feeling that USA multinationals seem to have taken it upon themselves to educate us and take over our cultural territory and the direction of our political policies.
Trans ideas all came from The USA and and it just seems another complete disregard for us as an independant country and yet another example of cultural imperialism.

You understand that the FA will have signed off the design. This isn't Nike unilaterally 'desecrating' the flag as an act of US cultural imperialism

The emblem on the neck of the jersey is not a flag.

Barr77 · 23/03/2024 16:23

There is a cost of living crisis, people are feeling the hit on their pockets. To spend £125 on the football shirt is a luxury most cannot afford, and a strip that has been met with ambivalence at best.

I don’t necessarily think that the ongoing controversy will help sales either. Perhaps that might been the case 15 years ago when living standards felt better, but now I think this whole media debacle will only serve to irritate further.

A poster mentioned above that there is a general fatigue around corporations forcing their ideology on a fed-up and exasperated public. The mishandling of the public reaction by the FA has shown how out of kilter they are with the current public mood.

Even if England reach the final, I can see these shirts making their way to eBay.

StaunchMomma · 23/03/2024 17:25

TathingScinsel · 22/03/2024 17:24

No pink or purple cross on the 66 training kit either - the FA quote seems to refer to the stripes?

Still absolutely nothing to get wound up about.

The collective 'outrage' is truly embarrassing.

GlomOfNit · 23/03/2024 18:37

This thread is dispiriting. To me, it shows how our justifiable and urgent anger and concern over the erosion of women's rights and spaces is being hijacked by the right wing. (Yes and I know that rightwingers can be feminists too! For the flag-shagger variety, it's not exactly their natural habitat though, is it?) Fuck off and find another bandwagon.

I suspect mischief on the part of the thread-starter. I want no part in it.

(also, it's a non-argument and preposterous. It's not 'trans colours' - look them up in your I Spy Book of Identity Flags ffs. And there has been TONS of talk in the media about what a non-issue this is, that the sacred Flag has been rendered in all sorts of ways and colours for previous championships. And nobody, save a few Reform groupies, gives a shiny one.)

AzureNewt · 23/03/2024 19:28

The outrage seems to be really selective, too.

UKIP use an all-purple version of the Union Jack as one of their logos - apparently this is fine.

The Conservatives use an angled version of the Union Jack, smooshed into the shape of an oak tree - also fine.

The Scottish Conservatives’ logo is a multicoloured version of St Andrew’s cross.

But if anyone other than a right winger uses any imagery from a flag, and doesn’t recreate it entirely faithfully, then the whinging, whining and outrage begins.

Underthinker · 24/03/2024 07:02

@GlomOfNit I agree. But I do think it's understandable that people are now hypersensitive to gender ideology creeping up in random places and causing trouble.
We can see red flags where there are none (Literally in this case.)

TathingScinsel · 24/03/2024 09:37

This gave me a wry chuckle:

Woke change to England flag.
Abhannmor · 24/03/2024 09:57

Aesthetically it's a right mess. Red and purple just clash horribly. Not sure if it's 'woke idiocy' though. Might just be some bright 'consultants ' idea to siphon a few million off Nike the FA or whoever pays these leeches.

The Irish FA binned the shamrock badge over twenty years ago. It's not inclusive apparently. They replaced it with ....a football. Footballs ⚽ are very inclusive. They brought the shamrock back last year after another consultation ' with our internal and external stakeholders' whatever that means. But the St George Cross makeover seems less clear cut ?
