Relieved

Righteously victorious

Sad

for those brave patients, parents and clinicians who stood up in the face of immense pressure and against what they knew was wrong.

The personal cost this has taken from some people is unfathomable. It really is a national scandal that the NHS was effectively experimenting on children.

I hope much more follows on now from this.

And now Dr David Bell formerly of the Tavistock.

Just tuned into R4. Thx for the heads up.

I’m reading Hannah Barnes’ book at the moment and, based on what I’ve read so far, this news from the NHS is an excellent development in this area of patient care.

Also, based on how Barnes describes GIDS getting a blockers research study past an ethics review board by arguing the study couldn’t possibly have a randomly assigned control group, I’m hoping any proposed research is much more ethical and science-based than what’s previously taken place.

I've always wondered how anyone can undertake a clinical trial for drugs that serve to sterilise children, may affect their brain & bone development plus a host of other potential harmful impacts on young healthy bodies.
How on earth can you begin to argue for that?

It's just NHS England. The Scottish NHS, im assuming, may still continue. Can English patients be seen or prescribed PBs there?

I don't know what the situation is in Wales or NI.

It probably will not apply in Scotland, but I think Truss's Amendment would.

4 Extent, commencement and short title
(1) In this Act—
(a) section 1 and this section extend to the United Kingdom;
(b) section 2 extends to England and Wales;
(c) section 3 extends to England, Wales and Scotland.

The medicinal products section is section 1.

TheNumberfaker · 12/03/2024 17:14

Omg Dr David Bell letting rip now!

CriticalCondition · 12/03/2024 17:14

Dr Bell is on fire!!

LostInScience · 12/03/2024 17:15

I think after the report in June 2023, a follow up article appeared (from Hannah Barnes I think?) that new prescriptions were still being issued.

EasternStandard · 12/03/2024 17:15

God this is fantastic

Yes to not using ‘trans child’

Many of us have said that on here.

ILikeDungs · 12/03/2024 17:16

It's all coming out, and on ED's show!! He must hate this

loubd · 12/03/2024 17:16

surely this means the end for Mermaids?

mids2019 · 12/03/2024 17:17

😊😊😊😊😊😊

ILikeDungs · 12/03/2024 17:17

ED is struggling. I love it

CriticalCondition · 12/03/2024 17:18

Evan Davies can't resist saying but, but what about the children who are trans?

unwashedanddazed · 12/03/2024 17:18

This is exactly the same instruction given last year. No PB unless part of research. Although it became evident towards the end of the year that they were still being prescribed.

Maybe this is like when you warn your kids "I really mean it this time!" . Let's fucking hope so.

Evan Davies can't resist saying but, but what about the children who are trans?

After Dr told him off for saying trans child. He has learned nothing

CriticalCondition · 12/03/2024 17:20

God, that was fantastic. David Bell made ALL the points and wouldn't be talked over by Evan Davies. I recommend anyone who missed it to find it on catch up.

Snowypeaks · 12/03/2024 17:20

Let's raise a glass to Keira Bell.

DrBlackbird · 12/03/2024 17:20

PronounssheRa · 12/03/2024 16:29

The only thing that worries me is that it might drive more children towards gender GP etc who appear to be beyond any meaningful regulation (and of course any recourse for patients should anything go horribly wrong). This is something that needs urgent attention

Plus, PBs are one thing and the evidence is piling up for them being ‘A BAD THING’, but by far the most common are CSHs and it’d be good to see much more research on impact there.

Let's raise a glass to Keira Bell.

Hear hear!! She’s one brave woman.

Giggorata · 12/03/2024 17:22

About time!
Huzzah for Dr Bell, telling it like it is.

ArabellaScott · 12/03/2024 17:23

WRT last year's announcement and this one, was last year a 'pause' on puberty blockers while they looked into them?

And now they've looked into them, and they've said 'fucking no'?

bringbacktheladiesloos · 12/03/2024 17:24

Fact: 'We know that the majority of children that present with gender distress will desist, they will change their minds' - Dr David Bell

This is gold

PotteringPondering · 12/03/2024 17:25

Just to confirm: this was the lead story on BBC Radio 4's PM programme presented by Evan Davies. He had Hannah Barnes explaining the background, then Dr David Bell (ex Tavistock) explaining why the whole GIDS thing was a shitshow and why this new development to ban puberty blockers is a good thing.

The programme will go on BBC Sounds within about an hour of it ending at 6pm. If you didn't hear it go out live, you must listen this evening on catch-up. David Bell was on fire.

JuneOsbourne · 12/03/2024 17:26

Dr Bell was amazing! He properly put Evan in his place and got so many good points across. Fantastic interview! (I missed Hannah).
