The queer grift is extremely lucrative in academic fields.

They are signed up converts and cannot disobey the church of queer.

@Datun and @BettyFilous have mentioned the joker academic who researches into the pleasure of the sound of food, or whatever twaddle it was, but let's not forget the theatre that recently had a trigger warning for audience members who might be distressed by the sound of actors eating oranges. I'm wondering now who did the research to prove that. (Probably no one, just attention seeking).

What a complex world they have created.

What a complex world they have created.

Well that's one word for it!

As Angelos has his Twitter blocked I can only see some snippets, like these:

My new article with J. Homosexuality is out now! Gay men who advocate being sexually versatile often criticise tops and bottoms for being .

A great talk by @rvytniorgu at #sexpanics focusing on masc panic and fem shaming in gay porn.

There's also an image, where Agnelos reaches on his gmail to conduct interviews with "Men who prefer and engage in non-penatrative sex" .

For Mumsnet readers, Maynooth University was originally a Catholic Seminary for the teaching of Irish priests.

Ffs!

what the hell is going on! This looks like as big a scandal as anything else.

I would love to see the ‘how on earth did we get here’ period of academia from a women’s rights perspective

JKR funds great stuff if I had that wealth I’d go for funding research into the madness that is gender ideology

The topic is so rich for writing I can only hope we start to see if soon

WarriorN · 15/04/2024 10:22

Look at people like Sally Hines and Alison Phipps.

The only way they've been able to make themselves relevant is climbing the queer grift ladder.

I have also watched at least two classroom teachers actively reinventing themselves within in academia into "queer" experts on queer inclusion in education.

I forget the term but they're all spouting this nonsense and quoting each others' research so much that it's become a 'reality.'

Well I thought I'd put in an Irish input from the list of the 3 on there. To give a perspective. So the last one is

Dr Robert Bohan, University of Dublin.

Except there is no such thing as University of Dublin. In Dublin there are universities and colleges. The largest in the country is University College Dublin. There is also DCU. Dublin City University. But no University of Dublin.

Robert Bohan is some kind of artist. He has a doctorate in Botany from Trinity College Dublin. So we get Dr. Bohan from that.

Robert Bohan - SANCTUARY (sanctuary-magazine.com)

He's also on Twiter (he/him) . I do so love when they give their pronouns, it's a clear signal to TERF's like me.

Some tweets lead to his support of Suzie Green, a retweet against Cass, a tweet against the HSE being linked to the UK NHS on trans policy (a bad thing natch)

From an Irish perspective there are 2 significant observations [1] the ‘experts’ awareness of Gay kids taking their own lives before ‘decriminalisation’ & [2] that it is HSE [Irish NHS] policy to engage with & follow NHS policy.

It’s critical that ppl stand against this.

Another one that is full on bonkers

UCD has had a long reputation for homophobia, forcing UCD LGBTQI students to be taken under the wing of the TCD Gay Soc for many years. That the university is paying a far right extremist means TCD must now consider offering sanctuary to LGBTQI students again.

And

I have been contacted by both prospective LGBTQI students & parents on whether it is safe for LGBTQI students in UCD. I have advised them that the DIT, DCU, TCD & other 3rd Level Colleges are a better bet given the support of UCD for this person.

So full on activist of some sort.

Citation Laundering?

(aka sniffing one’s own farts)

Teaalwayshelps · 15/04/2024 11:24

@Cailin66
There is a University of Dublin. It only has one college, Trinity College, so it's usually just referred to as TCD/Trinity, but it is the University of Dublin.

WarriorN · 15/04/2024 12:04

@TheClogLady something like that, something laundering. Research laundering? did Cass mention it? Or someone else has like Biggs or Stock. I feel like I've read an article recently on it.

WarriorN · 15/04/2024 12:07

Ah idea laundering. Boghossian.

www.wsj.com/articles/idea-laundering-in-academia-11574634492

WarriorN · 15/04/2024 12:10

Oh!

Whilst googling I found this article which is exactly what those academics are doing:

WarriorN · 15/04/2024 12:15

And before Phipps wades in with her grandiose jargon of of 'bourgeoise white feminists,' that blog describes itself as "an African American perspective" - not looked at length (and who the hell knows who's written and posted that) but there's a sensible post on conservative anti racism which I found interesting. As it's about centring free speech. medium.com/@aa_perspective/exploring-conservative-anti-racism-a-viable-approach-to-promoting-equality-in-the-united-states-389ddbde72b5

Also "circular referencing"

Very interesting piece.

Christina is referring the research by York university that Cass uses:

WarriorN · 15/04/2024 13:10

The buttons piece is really useful.

"Circular Referencing
The Endocrine Society (ES) and the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH) published initial guidelines recommending youth medical transition in 2009 and 2012, respectively. These guidelines became foundational for many subsequent guidelines, shaping their content and recommendations despite the lack of evidence and rigor. In the Cass Review, Dr. Hilary Cass highlighted the ways in which WPATH and ES were closely interlinked, noting their mutual co-sponsorship and input into each other’s drafts. This coordinated effort suggests that WPATH and ES were colluding to grant undue credibility to their guidelines.
The corruption persisted in the formulation of national and regional guidelines by prominent organizations such as the American Psychological Association, the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, the American Academy of Pediatrics, and the Society for Adolescent Health and Medicine. It also extended to international guidelines from countries like Australia, Spain, Italy, and regions including Asia and the Pacific. Rather than grounding their recommendations in robust evidence, these guidelines deferred to the endorsements from the initial guidelines of WPATH and ES.
Years later, when WPATH and ES updated their guidelines, they referenced the same national and regional guidelines that had initially drawn from their recommendations. This perpetuated a cycle in which each iteration reinforced the others, each time without sufficient evidence to support the recommendations. Dr. Cass highlighted the problematic nature of this circular referencing, stating, “The circularity of this approach may explain why there has been an apparent consensus on key areas of practice despite the evidence being poor.”

WarriorN · 15/04/2024 13:12

It goes on to explain who referenced who and how it links back to original guidelines which weren't based on evidence.

And then:

Broader Context
In the research world, such circular referencing is sometimes referred to as a citation cartell*. This occurs when a group of academic authors collude to excessively cite each other's publications to artificially inflate their citation counts. However, what has occurred here differs slightly; their aim wasn’t to boost citation counts, but rather to enhance their own credibility through mutual referencing in the eyes of the public and other medical professionals. Nonetheless, this practice is highly unethical. By engaging in circular referencing, these medical bodies have actively deceived healthcare professionals and the public, leading them to believe in the validity and reliability of recommendations founded on weak evidence.
Unfortunately, much of the transgender rights movement has advanced through an approach that heavily relies on appeals to authority. Organizations that once focused on Gay and Civil Rights, now pivoting to champion transgender rights, are deferred to as authoritative bodies by news outlets, schools, teachers' unions, and even the Biden administration, which seeks their guidance on transgender issues. Within academia, idea laundering has bestowed Queer Theory and Gender Theory, foundational to modern gender ideology, with the illusion of legitimacy.

"Citation Cartel:"
Citation cartels help some mathematicians—and their universities—climb the rankings
Widespread citation manipulation has led entire field of math to be excluded from influential list of top researchers

https://www.science.org/content/article/citation-cartels-help-some-mathematicians-and-their-universities-climb-rankings

We have a number of researchers trying to boost their citations artificially in a manner that does not at all reflect their scientific quality,” says Helge Holden, chair of the Abel Prize committee, one of the most prestigious awards in math. “This can only be condemned.”

The bottom line is that citations are not a good measure of scientific quality.”
