This is massive - and long overdue

Reduced, dialled back and restricted are still not the same as "nhs will not prescribe." I think that is what is significant

Yes your point MrsOverton is v important. I've just seen the old tweet by Jameela doing the rounds again where she claimed half her class in the 90s were on pbs for heavy periods.

PBS have been normalised everywhere on social media and TV as if they're beta blockers or in Jameela'a case, contraceptive pills.

Kids (and some activist parents) feel entitled to them now. The whole conversation needs to be turned on its head.

mumda · 12/03/2024 22:02

So. When will parents and their children start suing?

Meadowbird · 12/03/2024 22:04

Such good news! Interestingly the BBC article about doesn’t use the word ‘trans’ at all, but talks about gender distress. If we are able to use the more accurate phrase of children ‘suffering gender distress’ or similar that will make such a difference in enabling honest discussions and proper evidence/based support.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 12/03/2024 22:04

As you said upthread WarriorN, we're having to de programme society who've been serially gaslit to the extent that we've stood by (not all of us evidently) while children have been cynically targeted, gaslit and persuaded that their bodies are wrong. That puberty is optional and unimportant.
The extent of the lies that have been foisted on children are unbelievable and catastrophic in equal measure.

Exactly this

I can’t believe it but it is so good to see it exposed

Meadowbird · 12/03/2024 22:10

I do feel so sorry for the parents who’ve gone along with it, thinking they were doing the right thing. It must be tough to live with.

Slothtoes · 12/03/2024 22:11

Thank god… finally acknowledging that there is no evidence to support this. Which concerned women and parents have been highlighting for a decade. Please let there be a public inquiry into how this unresearched evidence free prescribing ever happened.

BonnyBo · 12/03/2024 22:11

Sorry if it’s been posted already but here is stonewall’s response. Note they say it’s a reversible treatment

The NHS doc doesn't use 'trans'.

givemesome · 12/03/2024 22:13

What are Stonewall and Mermaids saying ? Oppose the NHS decision and it shows them up for what they are

Yes. Starkly clear.

ArabellaScott · 12/03/2024 22:14

They are willing to risk children's health to support their bullshit ideology.

Remember when Stonewall said they don't give medical advice?
It appears they now do.......

And to feed their egos and to keep hold of the banhammer and to keep the money train a moving.

BonnyBo · 12/03/2024 22:18

I missed the last page of their post, which is signposting people to other organisations. Interestingly, mermaids isn’t on that list

The clinical experiment part will gather hard data ( unlike the Tavistock ) and over the coming years that data will be studied.
What happens before, during and after will all be collected.
The longer it continues the more data it will gather.
Actual real science will be done. The healthcare for trans identifying people will be continually reviewed and refined to provide ever better results for the individuals.
It's even possible that the study will show that for SOME people sexual reassignment is the best option. But it will be based on science and not religion. The results will have an effect outside of the United Kingdom as the data will be studied worldwide.
No debate is over, science will take it from here, fanatical religion has lost. The harm to young people will stop. Not all at once, but it's now inexorably heading down the unstoppable path of data over woowoo.

Unfortunately during this process a bunch of kids will be sacrificed to demonstrate the known problems.

Not one kid more should be experimented on with this on the basis of the evidence we ALREADY have.

Cauliflowery · 12/03/2024 22:21

Isn't there a current Hollyoaks storyline heading a kid towards a trans identity? I presume it will already have been filmed, but it is potentially going to look weird if they go down medical pathway now.

Brainworm · 12/03/2024 22:22

I'm struggling to see what in new here? This was announced some time ago and Hannah Barney's has talked a fair bit about the issues of getting ethical approval for studies for those who are prescribed them as part of a trial (eg on the Bari Weiss podcast last year).

I recognise that I am probably missing the aspect that is new, but can't work out what it is. Can someone help me out?

I get David Bell's concerns about adolescence lasting until 25 years, and also concerns about young people transferring to adult services at 17 years, but at least they will have had the health benefits of normal development until then.

andforthatminuteablackbirdsang · 12/03/2024 22:27

About my post at 21:07 above, I've now listened to the whole of Nolan Investigates [Stonewall] episode 5 and yes the Tavistock did successfully appeal the 2021 High Court decision to block puberty medication to under-16s. Many on this thread already know that, but I didn't.

I hope that the tranche of GIDS children 2021-2024 get their day in court sometime in the future. Now I'm going to listen to the rest of the Nolan Investigates [Stonewall], because it's been clear to me for a long time now that Stonewall is the problem. [Note to self if this gets deleted I'll know that mentioning Stonewall is a no-no.]

Ramblingnamechanger · 12/03/2024 22:29

On BBC news just now they can still be used experimentally. In what circumstances could that be justified I wonder, given the mounting evidence of harm?

JanesLittleGirl · 12/03/2024 22:29

Is there no child that Stonewall, Mermaids et al won't chuck under the bus to further their distorted view of the world?
