This is massive - and long overdue

I'm seriously serially confused! At 1.12 in this clip from C4 dated January 2021, David Bell says "the puberty blockers have been stopped".

But apparently they're only being stopped now (March 2024), except for the children already taking them?

I guess that the Tavistock must have appealed the 2021 ruling? Shame on them.

‘Children have been very seriously damaged’ by NHS gender clinic, says former Tavistock staff governor

Dr David Bell wrote an internal report in 2018, raising the concerns brought to him by colleagues about the way the Gender Identity Development Service was treating patients.

I am so relieved to see this being widely reported.

It is, of course, the right decision, and brings England back into line with other European countries who have banned puberty blockers, either outright or outside of clinical trials. There was an excellent article when the WA(r)PATH files were leaked, which summarised which countries had dialled back.

"is the nhs right wing now?" 😂

It'll definitely be old and saggy titted.

Emilie deserves the credit ....!

Also:

'The reason why some people experience gender incongruence is not fully understood and it is likely that the development of gender identity is multifactorial and influenced by both biological and social factors. Gender variant behaviours may start between ages 3 and 5 years, the same age at which most typically developing children begin showing gendered behaviours and interests (Fast et al, 2018). Gender atypical behaviour is common among young children and may be part of normal development (Young et al, 2019). Children who meet the criteria for gender incongruence / gender dysphoria may or may not continue to experience the conflict between their physical gender and the one with which they identify into adolescence and adulthood (Ristori et al, 2016).'

I’ve woken up to this fantastic news in Australia. So very happy. Now off to email this to my MP who is a big fan so transing kids.

In about 4 years, something amazing is going to happen- all those kids (mainly girls) who are currently on the cusp of having blockers prescribed will reach the ages of 15/16/17 where their dysphoric feelings will naturally settle. Nothing bad is going to happen to these kids without blockers.

They are currently laser focused on blockers as the solution to all their problems. Once blockers are no longer an option, let's hope they will focus on piercings, goth make-up, chunky boots and finding their quirky tribe like every other teenager before this madness happened.

Why isn't this under health though? It's a medical scandal.

It is under 'Health'. But written by their LGBT reporter. Go figure.

WarriorN · 12/03/2024 21:09

To be clear, are we the first country to stop using them under official central healthcare policies?

ArabellaScott · 12/03/2024 21:09

I'm so relieved. The NHS has taken a decent step back towards sanity and evidence-based healthcare.

Sweden, Denmark, Finland, I think, have all stopped using them. I'd need to double check.

WarriorN · 12/03/2024 21:10

Ah ok

https://segm.org/Denmark-sharply-restricts-youth-gender-transitions

'following systematic reviews of evidence conducted in Europe and the subsequent reversal of the “gender-affirmation” paradigm in favor of a cautious, developmentally-informed approach that prioritizes psychosocial support and noninvasive resolution of gender distress in Sweden and Finland, Denmark appears to have made a quiet but resolute shift to treat most youth presenting with gender dysphoria with supportive counseling rather than puberty blockers, hormones, or surgery. In 2022, only 6% of those referred to Denmark’s centralized gender clinic were prescribed endocrine interventions (puberty blockers and/or cross-sex hormones).*'

Denmark Joins the List of Countries That Have Sharply Restricted Youth Gender Transitions

A major medical journal Ugeskrift for Læger,  the Journal of the Danish Medical Association, confirmed that there has been a marked shift in the country’s approach to caring for youth with gender dysphoria. Most youth referred to the centralized gender...

The discussion in Michael Shellinger's Twitter space is that this nhs statement is more impactful as its full cessation and the nhs, public healthcare and so relies on clear evidence base.

WarriorN · 12/03/2024 21:14

Thanks ArabellaScott, so reversal, which I knew, but not full cessation.

This is full cessation.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 12/03/2024 21:17

This is all so important. Society rarely says no to the demands of this ideology and it's just a relief to finally see the NHS finally prioritising children and their safety.
Now for education to do the same and remove the influence of transactivism from schools.

Yes. One might say that last year the NHS made a start and have now really drawn a line under it. Hopefully other countries will follow suit soon.

It really is. As a house of cards if you show harm and pretence it starts to show adults in a starker light.

WarriorN · 12/03/2024 21:21

Absolutely, and as you say Mrs O, now to schools

bringbacktheladiesloos · 12/03/2024 21:26

Surely schools can't embrace this anymore with the harm that has been highlighted? This gives parents the back-up they need to tell schools to stop buying into this nonsense. Children's health and safety is at risk.

WeMeetInFairIthilien · 12/03/2024 21:27

I am sure that I read that Norway had also restricted PB use.

Am still trying to find the article.

There are a lot of blinkers out there.

This is the start of the de programming process but it will be long and arduous.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 12/03/2024 21:31

This also makes life easier for parents under pressure. No more quoting lies from all the activist groups about pbs as a pause. "Sorry - the NHS won't prescribe them as they're not safe. Now let's look at where we can get you someone to talk to abiut how you're feeling"

Parenting children by parents, free from pressure from transactivists. 🙂

I think this is a very important point.

There are many cracks in the edifice of GI now. The sports angle is getting to a lot of people who haven't been aware of the situation.

Now that (most) mainstream media is reporting on the ban of puberty blockers, even more people will become aware. And, as you say, now parents have something to counter the ideology that's been spread in schools.

WeMeetInFairIthilien · 12/03/2024 21:44

Thanks @BonnyBo , it wasn't that article, but glad to see it mentioned.

It was linked in a thread that I read over the last week. That, however, does not narrow it down! It was a commentary, possibly from the US, and the last half of the article was about the other European countries that had dialled back on using PBs

IcakethereforeIam · 12/03/2024 21:58

Cat!? What about the cat? Is it okay?

2024 is shaping up to be a good year. I keep waiting for the other shoe to fall.
