Tras are trying to get JKR arrested.

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2024/03/10/trans-activists-scottish-police-arrest-jk-rowling-crime/

https://archive.ph/5TEU4 highland fling yourself over the paywall, cos Scottish!

Thought to give IW a break.

The Hate Crime...crime(?) comes into force on 1st April, according to the article. The SNP has not engaged with any of the organisations who have expressed concerns and no-one knows what, if any, training the Police have been given.

Trans activists urge Scottish police to arrest JK Rowling over ‘misgendering hate crime’

Northumbria Police last week dismissed a complaint against the author over calling India Willoughby, a transgender TV personality, a male

I plead guilty to voting for the SNP, the Green Party and Independence. I wanted social justice for the disadvantaged, and real action on climate change. I had no idea what was coming politically, and there is no way I would vote for any of those now.

GailBlancheViola · 24/03/2024 16:49

Far easier to have a scapegoat for when you inevitably fuck up. 'It wasnae me mister! it was all that big boy Westminster's fault'.

The refrain from Westminster re the EU - We have to do it the EU says so, it's all their fault to policies being implemented that the public didn't like (which was a lie they didn't have to) and then they are flabbergasted that the public took them at their word and voted out of the EU at the first opportunity.

ArabellaScott · 24/03/2024 16:53

The Hate Crime Bill had cross party support in the Scottish Parliament. Only some Tories were against it, iirc.

I have voted Labour all my life. Like an idiot I also thought that they cared about vulnerable and working people. Keir Hardie will be spinning in his grave.

I've got nothing to boast about either.

I'll never vote for them again.

Edit to say why I voted Labour.

Wow, all these years of knowing French and I didn't know that!

Edited

In fairness, another poster did a deeper dive into the etymology and declared that 'gens' was indeed masculine gender.
I took a more pragmatic modern approach, 'gens' means 'people' in modern French, so I said it was neither masc nor fem.
Edgy, eh? And yet some say MN is an echochamber😀

They keep telling us to educate ourselves, too - yet every day is a schoolday here.

We're going to run out of thread soon. Thank you everyone for your contributions, silly and serious. Thank you JKR, the Hate Monster, marmite and even IW without whom this thread would not have been possible.

If anyone wants to start a new thread...say on 1st April, for no particular reason😏

@UtopiaPlanitia
Thanks for that link.
It answers many of my earlier questions. It looks like this law takes the broadest possible view that Scotland has jurisdiction over the entire internet around the entire world.
Utterly barmy. I can only imagine how much worse it would be if Scotland became independant. I'm sorry people of Scotland but as bad at Westminster is you have shown yourselves completly incapable of self government. The fuckwits you have put in power couldn't organise a piss up in a distillery and are some of the most corrupt and incompetent on the planet. You stand no chance of sucessful self government given how badly it has already gone. Scotland is a banana republic without the sunshine.

They couldn't get you a shag in a brothel.

If only that was a real church...

Mochudubh · 24/03/2024 17:52

Third generation SNP voter here (not anymore). My dear old Mum, God rest her, a lifelong supporter of indy, voted "No" in the referendum. Her reasoning was there weren't any Scottish politicians of sufficient calibre for Indy to be successful. I'm not sure whether I'm sorry or glad that she didn't live to see herself proved right.

IcakethereforeIam · 24/03/2024 17:58

That's me, in the third row on the right, but not far right. I'm usually more comfortable on the left.

But are you Losing Your Religion ?

Currently tunneling into a giant cake using only my teeth. Who knew the very hungry caterpillar could be something to aspire to!

I'm a sticky, happy person.

It seems like wherever a trough is put down the pigs gather to feed.
Politics is no longer about grand visions or working to make the lives of the people better, it's about expenses, camper vans, and ego massaging. Midwits at best, fuckwits for the most.

Boiledbeetle · 24/03/2024 19:00

AI finally decided to play ball and draw me exactly what I asked for (although it was the AIs decision to place the sign in a book shop!)

I was starting to get upset with hurt feelings thinking you were talking about us (pigs) filling our faces with cake!

Then I saw "campervan" and my hackles went down 😂

@Boiledbeetle - loving those cards in the bookshop window!
