Despite all the recent WPATH revelations and everythign else we now know Angela Eagle has just tweeted that the next Labour government will:

  • Legislate for a trans-inclusive conversion therapy ban
  • Make anti-LGBT+ hate crime an aggravated offence *Modernise Gender Recognition processes
  • Appoint an international LGBT+ envoy

As usual, we are told to ignore what Labour actually say and do, and just have blind faith that they will be better than Tories on women's rights.

When someone tells you who they are...

GoodAfternoonGoodEveningAndGoodnight · 08/03/2024 00:50

Screamingabdabz · 07/03/2024 23:35

Then you’ll be selling women’s rights down the river. Well done you 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 🙄

I really hope you're not voting Conservative.
I mean, it's up to you if you are course, but you'd be a massive hypocrite saying that to someone else if you were.

Floisme · 08/03/2024 07:06

Why the assumption that anyone who doesn't vote Labour must be a Tory voter? Last time I looked, this was not a two-party state.

Labour will also be awful for disabled people, Rachel Reeves isn't pulling her punches. Everyone needs to have a plan in place in case they develop a disability.

But I am guessing the Conservatives’ plans for disabled people aren’t any better?

Femaleismysex · 08/03/2024 07:25

Check your independents, just in case they are decent

⬆Puts into words what I was thinking.

Lamely saying "Please don't" is just not enough. They need to give me something to vote FOR. Not just to vote for them because they're 'not the Tories'.

HeartofSaturdayNight · 08/03/2024 08:28

So fed up of randoms telling me how to vote and also assuming we live in a two-party state. We don't. Get a grip. Also, for the Blue-People-Bad, Red-People-Good posters, can you actually tell me what the difference is between the two current iterations of both parties? They are both astoundingly incompetent with one party just slightly better at rowing back on the stripping back of women's rights. You know, 51% of the population.

Chocolate101 · 08/03/2024 08:35

I genuinely have no idea who to vote for. I don’t like either labour or tories for various reasons. Going to have to do a lot of reading before the next GE

It won’t be a surprise. People won’t be able to say no one said anything and they didn’t know

TinkerTiger · 08/03/2024 08:38

They won't be losing me, I'll still vote for them. The tories don't care for anyone but themselves, least of all women.

Peskysquirrel · 08/03/2024 08:40

Me neither @Chocolate101 . Labour should be the obvious choice for so many of us here. Many posters are left-leaning liberal, despite being portrayed as far-right facists for believing in women's rights. It should be so easy for us to vote Labour. So why isn't it?

SomersetTart · 08/03/2024 08:46

MrsSkylerWhite · 07/03/2024 22:59

I’m voting Labour. Any woman who believes that the Tories are on their side is deluded. They’re desperate and saying what they need to, to whoever will fall for it. Please don’t.

This.

If Labour want me to vote for them, they need to offer me something worth having. They're not, so I won't.

This a million times.

I am so so disappointed in all our political parties.

This. It's not my duty to hold my nose and meekly vote Labour: it's their job to appeal to me.

They don't. They won't, until they stop telling stupid fucking dangerous lies, stop dick-pandering and stand up for women.

It's not a big ask.

It's the only response these Labour drones ever have. They can't answer for the sorry state of Labour policies, so instead it's BUT TORIES/SHAME ONYOU.

Labour. You still have time to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

ArabellaScott · 08/03/2024 09:02

Where I live, it's a straight choice between Tory and SNP.

Devil, meet the deep blue C.

Balhammom · 08/03/2024 09:02

I find it so odd that some people only view a party through the lens of whether they are good for "women".

Firstly, women are not one homogenous mass. Women have different lives and can have different views to you. Having a different view to you does not make other women "wrong"!

Moreover, I find it incredibly sad that some women see their sex/gender as the sum total of their existence. Imagine having a life so lacking in ability and ambition that the only thing going for you is your sex or gender. We all have so many interests and characteristics that surely the question is whether a party is good for us and good for the country, not whether it's good for one specific characteristic or demographic.

Spendonsend · 08/03/2024 09:02

People saying its not a two party state. Do you find you get much choice on the ballot box and do the people you get a choice between have much chance of forming a government really.

I always see lots of parties listed but they dont stand in my area. We had 3 candidates last time. We didnt get a green or an independent or a whacky outlier

Peskysquirrel · 08/03/2024 09:04

You actually wrote that. On a feminist board. On IWD. Well done you.

I can't vote for my own criminalisation.

I keep writing and deleting a response to that astonishing post. On balance, probably best to just move on.

Peskysquirrel · 08/03/2024 09:09

@ArabellaScott Yeah, I don't even know where to start with that post. So much wrong. But I have work to do. Best to let it stand so others can see misogynists are not always men.

SpringLobelia · 08/03/2024 08:52

This a million times.

I am so so disappointed in all our political parties.

Same. If there’s an independent I’ll have a close look at them with fingers crossed. I was so pleased that Starmer won the leadership thinking at last an intelligent adult would be in charge. But it’s been disappointment since then.

Plus so many impulsive and reactive shadow front benchers worry me. They seem immature (Tory scum) and willing to silence dissent such that I’m concerned for when they take office.

Where are the intelligent and practical politicians we so desperately need? The Alan Johnson’s of today? The Ken Clarkes’ or the Dominic Grieves?

Angela Eagle is yet another example of a seemingly intelligent woman wilfully blind to the negative impact on women or safeguarding for young people in their rush to be an ally to men.

I despair that it’s going to get worse before it gets better.

Labour. You still have time to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

I remember the last Labour government and the good they did for women and families.

What I see of Labour policies and commitment now is not perfect for me, but much more in keeping with the future I would like to see than the present the Tories have given us. We can only align with the party closest to our views can't we?

I hope that doesn't make me a Labour drone in your eyes but if it does then I will have to live with that.
