Despite all the recent WPATH revelations and everythign else we now know Angela Eagle has just tweeted that the next Labour government will:

  • Legislate for a trans-inclusive conversion therapy ban
  • Make anti-LGBT+ hate crime an aggravated offence *Modernise Gender Recognition processes
  • Appoint an international LGBT+ envoy

Equal parental leave in not a controversial or an anti feminist idea. I think if you probe a bit you very easily uncover how not feminist gender critical feminism really is. Who really argues, in 2024, for women to be left home alone, doing all the childcare? It's unbelievable.

I am a woman and a feminist. Radical and gender critical feminism has always represented a minority of feminists, because what most women want is choices and opportunities, not to be pigeonholed.

You want to give away our rights without even understanding why we need them.

DrBlackbird · 08/03/2024 11:30

I really have to stop but does… I think if you probe a bit you very easily uncover how not feminist gender critical feminism really is mean, gasp, we’ve all been exposed for the conservative evangelist far right trad women that we so obviously are here on the FWR? Quick, someone tell MNHQ they better rename the board.

PS edited to add apology for derailing. I’ll stop and go sit on the naughty step reflecting on how I must do better as a feminist.

Oh God they are going to lose so many votes.
They’d better be expecting to win by a big margin.

They will only loose votes if women are aware of this . It is on Twitter but will it be big headlines in mainstream media ? Starmer will minimise it .

SammyScrounge · 08/03/2024 11:24

😆

So women who choose not to breastfeed, or who can't, shouldn't be entitled to maternity leave?

Peskysquirrel · 08/03/2024 11:34

Huh??

ForCoralFox · 08/03/2024 11:36

Peskysquirrel · 08/03/2024 11:34

Huh??

Well the suggestion was that in a two parent family, the parent who has given birth should obviously have more parental leave because they will be breastfeeding. But not everyone breastfeeds.

Peskysquirrel · 08/03/2024 11:37

I think you missed the point, hon.

Anyway it's "chestfeeding" nowadays.

DialSquare · 08/03/2024 11:38

I think DrBlackbird nailed it early on in the thread with her comprehension skills comment.

I don't think I did, actually.

And bravo for that. Trans men matter too, as do non binary people.

Peskysquirrel · 08/03/2024 11:38

😂

What was the point of bringing up breastfeeding then? It was specifically to justify more parental leave for women.

TinkerTiger · 08/03/2024 08:38

They won't be losing me, I'll still vote for them. The tories don't care for anyone but themselves, least of all women.

At least they know what one is .

NovemberAutumn · 08/03/2024 11:41

Lord. @ForCoralFox you keep missing all the points, I am afraid.

DialSquare · 08/03/2024 11:44

I can't be arsed to play pigeon chess at the moment. I'll see how I feel later on.

OK, explain to me like I'm a child. What is significant about the fact that women breastfeed? Ignoring the fact that not all those who breastfeed identify as women.

StaunchMomma · 08/03/2024 11:49

Depends on a voter's priorities.

I would honestly rather have the country in a better position than to have an MP in power who says men can't be women, right now. The state of the NHS/education etc is more important for me, currently.

I will be voting Labour.

What specific Labour policies are you looking at that will improve education and the NHS?
I haven't seen very much to date that distinguishes Labour from the Tories, other than different names and colours. As I understand it, Labour has explicitly promised to follow Jeremy Hunt’s public spending plans.

Peskysquirrel · 08/03/2024 11:53

Is there a particular policy that stands out to you @StaunchMomma ? Or anyone saying they will vote Labour.
I honestly mean that as a genuine question. I'm looking for the positives about Labour (and not that they are just "not Tories").
Interested to hear what appeals, especially after the green manifesto debacle.
Childcare seems to be vote winner?

This. And the Tories now are suggesting scrapping National Insurance. Very suspicious of their motives wanting to do that. it certainly won't make them popular with pensioners.

Well said

OceanicBoundlessness · 08/03/2024 11:56

First and foremost, what I wanted to do was what my body is designed to do, which is breastfeed my baby and keep them close. My needs were mere met, my child's needs were met and there was no need to be stuck at home. We had a month abroad at one point, me and the baby.
Having to shelve all those needs and instincts and get back to the workplace would have been detrimental to both me and the baby.

It's so tedious and predictable that whenever FWR try and have a discussion and analysis of Labour's policies on LGB, women and children, it is always derailed by the whatabouters.

"Thinking about looking in more detail at Labour's policies eh? IS THAT BECAUSE YOU'RE AN EVIL SHILL FOR THE FAR RIGHT TORIES?"

It is so frequent and targeted that I'm getting suspicious that this is strategic.

Anyway I got a letter from Labour today promising that they would cut VAWG by 50%.

Edited to move gif to bottom but I can't do this OR remove gif so the gif makes no sense in context.

The easier to discriminate against them, my dear
