Despite all the recent WPATH revelations and everythign else we now know Angela Eagle has just tweeted that the next Labour government will:

  • Legislate for a trans-inclusive conversion therapy ban
  • Make anti-LGBT+ hate crime an aggravated offence *Modernise Gender Recognition processes
  • Appoint an international LGBT+ envoy

I terrified of what they'll do. So many are obsessed with moving the gender goal posts. How many front benchers would have to retire before I could trust Labour again?

Oh God they are going to lose so many votes.
They’d better be expecting to win by a big margin.

We need to buckle up, it's going to be a hard fight. I'm still amazed at Angela Eagle I used to admire her so much and she's completely and utterly in thrall to this stuff. I'm glad JK Rowling has retweeted her and mentioned WPATH. I've met Angela she'll be bloody furious. At least the response to her tweet might give Starmer pause for thought. At the end of day it's not up to Eagle.

SwankyJim · 07/03/2024 21:43

Well that’s me not having a clue who to vote for 😕

Modernise Gender Recognition processes
They still plan to remove the spousal exist clause. This is the weakest part of their argument. None of them want to talk about how it was the key to making the Gender Recognition Act lawful; so keep talking about it.

Both parties signed the marriage contract. One of them cannot retroactively change the terms, that's not how contracts work.
Its not lawful to trap someone in a marriage that they are unable to leave because their religious beliefs forbid them to divorce.
Its not lawful to trap someone in a marriage because the person they want to divorce no longer exists as a legal entity.

Agreed.

It shows very clearly that Labour is no friend to women. It's mostly women who this will affect and the transwidows threads show quite clearly that late transitioning males are often abusive.

Labour want to trap women in abusive marriages. It's barbaric.

“International LGBT+ envoy” - I was embarrassed reading that. Does she know what is happening in Gaza and Ukraine?

Balhammom · 07/03/2024 22:04

These proposals sound thoroughly sensible to me. Looking forward to voting Labour.

Me too! At last some actual clarity. Although I hope this is soon backed up by the front bench.

Labour will also be awful for disabled people, Rachel Reeves isn't pulling her punches. Everyone needs to have a plan in place in case they develop a disability.

What does that mean, please?

Thelnebriati · 07/03/2024 22:56

Ratioed means its getting very few likes compared the the number of people who have read it or quoted it.

I’m voting Labour. Any woman who believes that the Tories are on their side is deluded. They’re desperate and saying what they need to, to whoever will fall for it. Please don’t.

If Labour want me to vote for them, they need to offer me something worth having. They're not, so I won't.

If you think Tories are the better option for women, then I honestly don't know what to say to that.

What do the Labour supporters on the thread have to say about their attitude to disabled people?

I've not been a Labour supporter for some time. I agree their stance on many things is appalling. But we need the Tories out, and on trans rights at least I'm hopeful they will do some positive things.

Particularly disgusted by their basically abandoning the Green New Deal.

Runningwildish · 07/03/2024 23:32

I see the woman hating Labour supporters are out tonight.

Then you’ll be selling women’s rights down the river. Well done you 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 🙄

People supporting Labour are woman haters?
Eh?
Unless you're referring to something different?
Or maybe one of those deluded ones who think Tories are good for women
