A TwiX Poll on this matter yesterday really did not go the way the account running it (PollBox, who identify as a “media news company”, running polls on stories they précis) expected 🤣
The question asked was:
Should public figures like JK Rowling face repercussions for misgendering transgender individuals?
The results? Of the 13459 respondents, 98% (13190) voted no - a mere 2% (269) voted yes. And TRAs have never met a poll they didn’t try to rig.
As Fred Sargeant pointed out (yes, THAT Fred Sargeant), PollBox tried to influence the vote with the background they gave:
Rowling vs Willoughby: Unpacking the Controversy
JK Rowling and India Willoughby's recent exchange has reignited discussions on transgender rights, freedom of speech, and what it means to be a woman.
The conflict began when Rowling dismissed a video of Willoughby, a transgender newsreader, as a "man reveling in his misogynistic performance of what he thinks 'woman' means." This comment has been widely criticized as transphobic, with many calling Rowling's views on trans rights into question.
Willoughby responded by affirming her identity as a woman, recognized by law and society, and accused Rowling of transphobic bullying.
This incident is part of a broader debate over gender identity, the rights of transgender individuals, and the responsibilities of public figures in shaping public opinion.
Rowling's stance on gender identity has been contentious, with the author asserting her right to express her views, even if they are deemed harmful by others.
This situation underscores the complex interplay between gender identity, societal norms, and the power dynamics of public discourse.
Not only did the vote go against them, people weren’t backwards in coming forwards to share the real story. The fact IW is a great big crybully has escaped nobody’s attention; & there were screenshots galore to evidence the narrative as presented by the poll was arrant nonsense & nobody was buying it.
There’s no way IW didn’t see those numbers coming in, but still IW decided to press on.
It’s quite staggering that nobody seems to have thought that JKR will of course have checked with one of her lawyers whether or not calling IW a man is a crime. Not on speeddial before knocking out that specific tweet (I assume, sadly I’m not JKR, nor privy to such info); but as part of her usual research & preparation. Perhaps while discussing the defamation case she CBA to bring because IW was literally, not just metaphorically, being her to take legal action.
IW really doesn’t seem to have noticed - or perhaps is just unwilling to believe - that the absolute capture is over. Voldemort is not the true owner of the Elder Wand; so powerful as he is, he cannot silence the survivors of the Battle of Hogwarts, nor bind them in place. His charms do not hold. Voldemort never truly had all the power; & he was successfully overthrown. So too will we overthrow the TRAs (currently “Death Eaters in the Ministry of Magic” it-ing up through the Civil Service & Westminster/Stormont [well, whenever they get the chance there…]/Holyrood/the Senedd) & hopefully not need 19 years to undo the GenderWoo idiocy & reach All Was Well.
Edit
Jaysus “soft swatting” 🤬
Very much unlike the actual real SWATTing of Justine Mumsnet in 2015 then.
FFS has IW no shame at all?
