JK Rowling has sadly opened her mouth again

How the metro can put out this tweet which effectively suggests a woman shouldn't be allowed to speak is beyond me. Shocked but not surprised. Comments are heartening though, as is the ratio.

Of course not. It's not a crime to call a male person a man. It's not a crime to call a woman a man, it's just incorrect. Even if you have a GRC, it's effectively an agreement between you and the state. It doesn't have any power over personal relationships and it doesn't create a legal obligation upon anyone to refer to you in the way you want to be referred.

Willoughby may be narcissistic, attention-seeking, deluded, hateful and deranged, but Willoughby is not so stupid as to think being called a man is a hate crime. Willoughby just wanted headlines, attention and an excuse to pretend to be a victim.

Boiledbeetle · 08/03/2024 21:54

I wonder if IW thinks the rules an employer has to follow with regards to an employee with a chip on their shoulder GRC don't actually have to be followed by Jo Public who didn't find out about someone's trans status through their employment but by the trans person telling everyone at every opportunity?

Boiledbeetle · 08/03/2024 21:56

After all when you spend your life publicly telling everyone you were born a man then you can't be surprised if people publicly agree with the fact and think you remain one.

Willoughby is always desperate for JK’s attention. Like a child who plays up to get his mummy’s attention.

RedToothBrush · 08/03/2024 22:16

Interesting that newspaper printed ALL of JKR rebuttal to IW!

SamW98 · 08/03/2024 22:21

IW reminds me of the boys at primary school who pick on and pull the hair of the girls they fancy desperate to get their attention.

I honestly think in IW deluded little mind the fact she’s got JKR to bite - all be in a very controlled way - she’ll see as a spiteful little victory.

All IW is interested in is themself, attention, drama and validation. They’re like a toddler.

Here we are again - a thread in ‘chat’ about women’s rights has been hidden 😑

JK Rowling has sadly opened her mouth again
Ereshkigalangcleg · 08/03/2024 22:48

Yes, MNHQ said too many posts to go through, they said they were "hiding it for the night" but I'm not holding my breath that it will be opened up in the morning. It was great, actually. The female anger was powerful, apart from the usual couple of gaslighting bekinders.

Waitwhat23 · 08/03/2024 22:56

I did wonder how long it would be up - I saw at least one 'this should be in the cess pool of FWR!!!' comment so I'm guessing the foot stampers went to town.

The vast majority of the comments said that international women's day should centre, well, women which was encouraging.

Clue is in the day's name ie 'women's day'

This is not a day intended for trans women, aka men, to be recognised.

Hurrydash · 09/03/2024 00:14

Whilst I applaud the observations in this thread that the recent biological lunacy propaganda is being challenged and to some extent reversed this is far from a done deal.

The Labour MP Angela Eagle is being reported as saying the Labour manifesto will include:

'• Strengthening the law so anti-LGBT+ hate crimes are treated as aggravated offenses'

No stretch to think this commitment will be extended to making the (factual) comments JKR made as being illegal.

Labour will be in power the next 5 years. Starmer '1 in a1000 women have a penis' may not be the biggest danger to freedom of speech but no guarantee he won't be ousted by the hard left once he's PM.

I believe the outlook for women in the UK is grim, grimmer, grimmest.

Please don't vote Labour. I'm not party political, I despise the Tories, but I'm scared for the country.

A lot of us on here would normally be Labour voters and a high majority of those are currently wondering who the hell we vote for as we can't in good conscience vote for Labour. It's horrifying to think that all the head way over the past year or so could be undone by Christmas!

Yes.

To be realistic there are only 2 parties that have a chance of winning. It’s futile to spoil the vote / protest vote / vote for a small party who have no chance of winning. That make us feel better, but is absolutely pointless.

Which leaves 3 options

Labour - no chance - agree with everything you say in your post. Eagle saying 'Strengthening the law so anti-LGBT+ hate crimes are treated as aggravated offenses' - it’s Nothing to do with the LGB, we know it they know it. It’s about the T, specifically TM. The consequence of which for women is terrifying.

I support trans people having human rights. I do not support male people claiming women’s rights. This is what Labour will enable.

Conservatives - never voted for them before. But their motivations aside, they are at least confirming they understand scientific fact. And they are not telling us that women have penises.

or final option

Don’t vote - 😐

People may have to vote Conservatives for the first time ever, to keep misogynistic Labour, out.

Also this. I hadn’t thought about this. Urgh

motheronthedancefloor · 09/03/2024 07:43

In Scotland, the situation is even worse. In the vast majority of constituencies, the vote is between SNP or Labour.
Tories only have a chance in the South of Scotland. Definitely not in my constituency so that would be a wasted vote.
Alba have no chance at all and fuck the Greens.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 09/03/2024 07:44

I will never vote Tory. I never have and the current incarnation of the Tory Party contains so many incompetent, selfish, racist and corrupt people that I couldn't countenance supporting them in any form. We need a change of government, urgently.

Unfortunately, I don't think the Labour Party in its current form is capable of governing in the way that I would want them to do, and the economy is in such a mess after 14 years of Tory rule and austerity that the scope to do anything much will be very limited.

They'll want to be seen to be doing something, though, and that probably makes it more likely that they will push through hastily drafted nonsense laws on conversion therapy and the like. It does worry me, but I have to hope that we can mobilise to make it clear what the dangers are, and that there is no large scale public support for this.

All voting considerations are academic for me anyway, as my MP (Labour) has one of the largest majorities in the country, so whether I vote for her or not she will be elected. One of the quirks of the first past the post system. The election gets decided in the marginal constituencies. Millions of us effectively have no say.

All very depressing.

Absolutely agree. I'm also in a very safe labour seat so my vote makes no difference. It's depressing.

I can't see any result for the SNP but getting absolutely gubbed at the next election but Labour are no better given their cowardice against the threat of a three line whip from on high (with the honourable exception of Carol Mochan and Claire Baker). I'd rather burn my ballot paper than vote Greens or Lib Dem and Alba etc are too wee.

Here, our politicians stand proudly under signs calling for violence against women.

Ohhh dreadful. Does Scotland (or where you live in Scotland) feel overtly misogynistic in your daily life? Or is it just the impression given now from krankie consequences? Yes fck the greens indeed. What will you do??

Edited

Parties also get airtime on the BBC and other broadcaster based on how well they do in the popular vote. This is set for the entire next parliament. I wasn't aware of this a few years ago.

This means there is some value to voting for someone who 'has no chance' in your constituency.
