I had never heard of this guy before today (I am not a fan of stand up comedy) but I do listen to the political podcast The Newsagents, and they had him on as a guest. He sounded like a sensible person until he suddenly started talking complete faux-naïve bollocks about the trans issue. Something about how how boring it would be if everyone in society was expected to be the same, or some such stuff, and therefore anyone who opposes trans rights is being "boring" as well as wrong. Anyone else hear that? Is this guy in general a TRA or just stupid?

I'm another who was unaware of Lycett until he started having a go at Beckham for working in Qatar.
I didn't take much notice, until it was pointed out that Lycett had had worked on Qatar and other gay-hating countries:

Lots of "but that's different" crap from Lycett, but I don't see how.

Lycett also lectured everybody on how they should stop using single-use plastic, then walked off a TV show when it was shown that he still used it himself:

@OllyBJolly that was exactly my take on listening to it. Which is why I posted, I wondered how it was possible for anyone with modicum of intelligence and social/political awareness to genuinely remark on the trans issue as being anything to do with people not liking people who are "different". It just seemed a really really silly thing to say, so therefore, unless he was a complete idiot, must have been a faux-naïve pose (for what reason I can't fathom)

Well, the more I see about this guy on this thread the more I don't like him. I don't think my previous complete ignorance of his existence detracted from my life in any way, I must say...

Agreed. I used to enjoy his gardening posts on IG when he bought his house and was getting into gardening. The veg was fine but for some reason once he had started growing flowers the misogynist language came out and every photograph of a bloom was accompanied by "these sluts" type captions. Really unpleasant.

I think he ruined the Travel Man, Richard Ayoade was much better. I agree if he has any intelligence he should understand this is not a simple issue. But so many gay men really don't gaf about women or their issues. As said before this doesn't impact upon their comfortable lives in any way. Many are complete misogynistic pricks sadly.

@MalcolmTuckersSwearBox OK I get the picture now. A juvenile prick who thinks that kind of thing is "edgy" and funny, and looks down on anyone who doesn't as boring hidebound old fossils. I thought we had passed this stage in adult discourse some years ago. Apparently not.

I think that's probably the kindest interpretation of his 'humour' & personality, tbh.

I really liked him on Sewing Bee. Then watched some of his stand-up and was taken aback by how mean it was.

@RandySavage He walked off the show re the plastic bottle as a publicity stunt to draw attention to his single use plastic campaign. It was planned in advance with the show (Steph's Packed Lunch) and filmed backstage before and after.

He did a live show for a while on channel 4 I think he had Joan Collins on . I thought it was pretty bad to be honest . Very cringy . Pansexual ? I think he is just virtue signalling tbh .

I sigh inwardly at Gay men getting behind the trans bandwagon because it generally affects them not one jot.

I'm always a bit surprised that they haven't noticed that boys who might grow up to be gay are being sterilised. You'd think they'd have a bit more empathy for those boys.

@Itscatsallthewaydown now that is awful and on a different level from the more recent puerile attention-seeking crap and pretence of naiveté. Did that tweet get any response at the time, does anyone know? (The best response would obviously have been his being completely ignored in perpetuity, but clearly that didn't happen).

Like most of the stand up "alleged" comedians is that people dont find them funny and they are now looking for presenter jobs/celebrity guest or similar.

Joe Lycett is one of the worst , instant turn off the telly.
