Froodwithatowel · 24/02/2024 14:58

So how is a young girl able to express her discomfort when people like you have made it a social norm to take away her language to do it?

Can you not see how wicked this is?

She can express her discomfort, as long as she is respectful and does not misgender other individuals.

Ohnohedident · 24/02/2024 15:00

oppressors always find pushback from the oppressed disrespectful

How?

How can a teenage girl say she is very uncomfortable with boys being in her changing room or bathroom when you punish her for telling the truth that they are boys?

Please square the circle for us?

Ohnohedident · 24/02/2024 15:01

there is nothing disrespectful in living in reality, its abusive and disrespectful to force someone to pretend they are not

Dentistlakes · 24/02/2024 15:02

Why is this even an issue? Trans women can swim in the mixed pond. It’s not as if they have nowhere to swim. Why on earth are they forcing the issue and swimming in the women’s pond? It’s complete lunacy and only serves to turn people against them.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 24/02/2024 15:03

Because it's a dominance display @Dentistlakes

Expecting certain codes of behaviour in an educational environment isn't oppression. Should I allow a religious kid to tell a gay kid they're going to hell?

When I was a kid biology was very much used as a fig leaf for homophobia.

Ohnohedident · 24/02/2024 15:05

forcing kids to lie about reality is oppressive, doubly so when the lie actually reinforces oppression against their sex class

It's never come up in any environment I've worked in. If a girl was unhappy with the facilities provided, I'd try to find an alternative that she was happy with.

You equate a teen girl saying she is uncomfortable in mixed sex changing rooms or bathrooms as equivalent as gay children being told they will go to hell?

Is there anything that would make you have the tiniest bit of empathy with girls?

So the boys can have the female space and any girls objecting must be sent elsewhere?

Cis gendered people othering and excluding trans people is the same though, in terms of power dynamics.

No. The 'cis' gendered people are women. The most disavantaged group ever, in every society throughout history. The trans people are men. The most advantaged group in every society. And no, cis women do not disadvantage women and girls who claim to be trans. They are welcome to use the women's pool and all other women's spaces.

I've never known this be a problem in the real world. It's only on mumsnet.

The pond thing is clearly being driven by a political agenda.

Ohnohedident · 24/02/2024 15:08

'its not a real problem' is that on the bingo card?

You don't think any women or girls anywhere in the real world object to sharing spaces where they are undressed with men and boys?

Nowhere, ever?

Ohnohedident · 24/02/2024 15:10

does that mean karen whites victims were not real people?

What about the woman raped, on film, in a hospital and the NHS said it couldn't have happened because there was no man on the ward?

They kept the video evidence from the police of all people, for a whole fucking year, before admitting that yes, there was a man but keeping his trans ID secret was more important than her rape.

This affects people in real life. There is no mystery trans aura that makes these men 'safe'. They are just as fucking dangerous as any man.

Jesus wept, what the fuck is wrong with you be kinders? Grow the fuck up.

Firstly, these issues have never come up except in the broadest of terms, and I doubt the kids I worked with had a very detailed idea of my views or gave them much thought. They probably thought of me as being vaguely liberal, if anything.

Secondly, everywhere I've worked recently has had individual, lockable unisex cubicles to be used strictly one at a time. No one has expressed any discomfort at this. Sometimes the younger boys piss on the toilet seat.

Ohnohedident · 24/02/2024 15:18

Women have been the most disadvantaged group in every society? In the antebellum South? In Nazi Germany? In modern Britain women are more disadvantaged as a group than the asylum seekers languishing on the Bibby Stockholm? I'm all for acknowledging women's oppression and smashing the patriarchy, but that is deranged.

I'd be interested in some more details or a link to verify that story.
