Well the new information just makes this while thing seem more bonkers!

exactly

wontforget · 22/02/2024 05:34

oh and these comments…. were made 4 years ago. wonder why picked up and run a few obscure outlets 4 years on

MidLangCleg · 22/02/2024 06:11

So it wasn't a woman after all that was imprisoned.
Phew.

So you have 2 men fighting each other, one ends up in jail.
Let them eat other I say..

i suspect this latest update will put a rather different slant on your perspectives on this story!

Well I still think any prison sentence for saying words is too much. No matter how offensive the words were. I thought in 2024 we would be beyond imprisonment for such minor things. I thought we always try to educate first? Ignore as a last resort? Not putting people in prison. It seems overkill.

They are trying to educate first, he’s got to do a course and the prison sentence is suspended.

I don’t agree generally that words should never result in prison by the way. We’ve always had crimes that just rely on words - threatening someone for example or fraud or inciting violence. I can’t find enough detail on this case to see whether I agree with this being a crime.

Not in the slightest. It's absurd that anyone should go to jail for this.

NecessaryScene · 22/02/2024 07:19

wontforget clearly hasn't been around long enough to remember that the UK's first attempted "transphobia" prosecution was a woman bringing a case against a transwoman.

And we were firmly on the transwoman's side, not the woman's, for the same reasons.

The identity of the people involved is irrelevant to the principles.

Only difference would be in degree of direct relevance to the feminist forum - procedural unfairness to women is more on topic - but upholding principles universally is important to everyone, which includes women.

nah. Given we know such scant detail about the case, given what we do know, the fact that both are men is very relevant!

How is the sex of the perpetrator relevant to the principle? Are you saying an actual woman would have been treated differently?

AlisonDonut · 22/02/2024 08:39

It must have really stung for the only person in this story to be called a woman, to be the one that accused the man of being a man, and after taking that man to court, the man who did the taking to court ends up being the one not described as a woman.

Yelp. Probably why they got the story changed after reporting as the report itself would have been outing, and hence anyone who reports on this is in the exact same boat as the man that says he is a woman that the other man who says he is a woman took to court. For saying something about his dick.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 22/02/2024 08:48

I agree, but Alison's post is quite pertinent. The only one who had gender identity affirmed as a "woman" in the media was the one sentenced for hate crime!

Ereshkigalangcleg · 22/02/2024 08:49

Because no one really believes a "trans woman" is the same as a woman, and everyone thought this was an actual woman being prosecuted.

AlisonDonut · 22/02/2024 08:59

I'm just sitting in a car park in rural France waiting for the cake lady to open, chuckling to myself at the utter absurdity of it all.

Oh what a tangled web and all that...

Two brownies and two hazelnut and caramel cakes bought, and home now for coffee.

Still chuckling.

Hard agree with this. It's pissing it down here, cold and I have no cake.

Literal violence!

pronounsbundlebundle · 22/02/2024 09:43

In terms of the case, I wish there was more reliable detail, but when journalists lie about sex, how can you possibly believe anything else they say?

If the man jailed was jailed for stating as basic a fact as the reality of binary sex in humans then Spain is in big, big trouble. But at this point I feel I just don't know - hopefully some more reliable and honest journalists will do some digging.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 22/02/2024 09:48

Thankfully he didn't go to jail, the sentence was suspended. But the principle is important. He used a (very common) homophobic slur but I'd be surprised if the prisons are full of other men who used it about gay men without any trans element.

no

i’m saying that this latest bit of info release (yesterday and the case was 4 years ago!)

would indicate that these reports are maybe… well let’s just say not an
accurate reflection of the case

NecessaryScene · 22/02/2024 10:18

What are you trying to insinuate?

The error here was due to the lies of the officials. That reflects badly on them, and it is much of the point of the story - official lies.

We're trying our best to discover the truth here, with the establishment lying all the way down. It's not Reduxx doing the lying.

If you think there are more lies going on, by Reduxx, or Spain, or anyone else then maybe try to expose them? Rather than just mutter darkly about "accuracy"? Provide some information of your own! Uncover the truth!

Otherwise all you're basically saying "we shouldn't believe stories about people lying because people lie." Which isn't terribly productive.

And, indeed, that is often part of the point of this sort of official lying - to induce this sort of passiveness so that you give up on finding out the truth. It seems to have worked on you.

Very proud to live in a country where transphobic hate crimes are punished, rather than encouraged, by the state.

Yes.... So this makes me wonder if it's now even possible for Spanish media outlets to report this case without committing a crime themselves?

I also wonder if this case gives an insight into another reason 3rd spaces are rejected by trans activists. Whilst I know both individuals are male, I can quite understand why there might be tensions between those who've had the penis op and those who have no intention. Especially as the latter type are often seen actually drawing attention to their dicks on social media.

this happened 4 YEARS AGO

any decent journalist would have surely done a tiny bit of digging beyond the “officials” version of events 😂

Historically, Spain has been a very sexist society, and sadly it feels as if it has just moved from the old misogyny of Catholicism and Francoism straight to the new misogyny of the TRAs.

Ummm...I don't think you understand Spain very well. Or Catholicism. Or Francoism.
