What this thread shows is the value of getting the mainstream media to turn a blind eye to particular stories. Because for some it means the story doesn't really exist.

Absolutely this. It has been the same in Canada over the reporting of stories like Jessica Yaniv. It was the same in this country until a few years ago.

Redux may be relatively small, but it's well known. It's like saying you haven't hear of Private Eye, or The Spectator.

not even close

I don’t know this case. However I do know that anyone resident in Spain now, can self ID as a female. Sounds like Scotland. What a mess.

‘’After months of heated debate which divided the left and a part of the feminist movement, the Spanish parliament finally approved the "Law for the Real and Effective Equality of Trans Persons" on Thursday, February 16’ Le Monde

Nothing about the Real and Effective Equality of Women, of course.

Even now the BBC, Sky News Guardian, the Independent, many local and regional newspapers are silent about the persecution of women for expressing GC views.

It's been noticed how there is very little coverage of a particularly tabloidesque murder trial in Oxford, with the kind of nasty details that would normally be media catnip. And where there is coverage, most of it appears to be deliberately obscure in a way that withholds relevant facts from the readers.

FlamingoAndJohn · 21/02/2024 17:52

So this person was working for a trans theatre company and is a trans activist yet says that this woman’s comments outed them as trans?
This isn’t someone quietly getting on with their life, this is someone openly trans.

At least the local news is - slightly’ more coherent (truthful) than the BBC.

You really aren't looking very hard.

Don't F With Cats murderer tells court she is transgender

Scarlet Blake, from Oxford, said when she was 12 years old she knew she was trans but it wasn't until she was 17 that she began medical treatment to transition.

Why isn’t ’the law’, which is supposed to be about Truth, calling men, men? We are living in a world where the law itself, is lying to everybody. How are we supposed think the law can ever bring justice?

Calling a man a woman they might as well say guilty is not guilty. Or black is white. I’d like to see a court case where the law makes its own case for telling us men are women.

RufustheFactualReindeer · 21/02/2024 18:10

She said there was little coverage…not that there was none

i believe “transphobia” is absolute nonsense

but in this case… it was trying to whip up violence and invaded someone’s personal life that they hadn’t broadcast

Except that isn’t true. It was public knowledge that he was male. He shared that himself.

happydappy2 · 21/02/2024 18:24

Am curious why she was prohibited from holding any employment in the field of teaching or sport for 3 years….and why she offered no defence…

ChateauMargaux · 21/02/2024 18:53

Sorry if I missed it.. but what did she say that incited violence?

Why didn't she offer a defence?

6 months suspended sentence for saying there are 2 sexes? However, the homophobic slur was nasty ... does Spain have precedent for such sentences when men have used similar slurs?

in support of obscure news outlets of which i have absolutely bugger all idea about what lies behind them? nope

If it's not being reported anywhere, where are you getting your information about it from?

I hope it's an approved source of national significance.

Totallymessed · 21/02/2024 19:18

Historically, Spain has been a very sexist society, and sadly it feels as if it has just moved from the old misogyny of Catholicism and Francoism straight to the new misogyny of the TRAs.

Exactly this. See also: Malta.

Six months is a very long sentence for speaking words.

none of these are mainstream.

not one

plus… there is more to it if you read. It was inciting violence

Perhaps you could share the inciting violence part as I haven’t seen it? Instead of the vague comments criticising links people have helpfully shared with you at your request.

‘noone knew I was trans’, vs ‘Last summer, Ferrer organized and led a tour of Barcelona, called a “Trans Whoretour,” highlighting key areas where the sex industry had thrived. The tour was organized with the support of the trans theater company TiritiTrans Trans Trans Trans.’
if it wasn’t tragic this would be pretty funny.

EDITOR’S NOTE: A previous version of this article incorrectly referred to one of the parties in this case as a “woman.” This article has been amended after new, previously-unavailable information was released clarifying that both parties in the case are in fact trans-identified males.

It's still insane that anyone get 6 months in jail for making comments - even offensive ones. I don't care what sex or gender they are.

MissLucyEyelesbarrow · 21/02/2024 21:01

It is striking how the countries with the most repressively misogynistic cultures in the early 20th century (Ireland, Spain) now seem to be the greatest enthusiasts for stripping away women's rights in the early 21st century.

No change here. There's no way I'd support a prison sentence for someone, trans or not, making unpleasant comments about someone.
