Why are separate spaces for trans people unacceptable (to trans people)?

There's a thread on AIBU about people's network's views on the trans debate and a poster suggested trans people ought to campaign for separate spaces - trans toilets, trans sporting events etc.

Is anyone campaigning for this? And if not why not? I'm not clued into the detail of the debate and am genuinely interested. Is it just impractical (cost, insufficient numbers for competitive sport) or is it ideologically unacceptable?

I can't remember who it was now, but some public figure muppet did announce that the answer for activists was a safe space away from all the nasty women who were ideologically impure . And women went "Yes! Yes please!"

And the muppet basically said "Fuck...." and reversed the ferret at high speed.

I think it was Willoughby.

Thank you :) I was torn between Talcum and the fox botherer.

Haha! That was Adrian Harrop, the numpty!

Maybe more than one genius came up with that gem, it's possible. I mean, some of the TRA persuasion are known for their lack of a logical consideration of the issues.

Wholly possible. Like the time one of them got all excited about a new test to prove that people were trans, then had to backpedal fast when the rest started screaming.

Yes, Haddock! Thank you! I had the mental image of small and permanently annoyed.

That's DOCTOR Adrian Harrop, if you don't mind! Grin

(TRA equivalent of "Do you know who I am?", I think)

Harrop or Captain Haddock?

Description of permanently annoyed fits both really.

Yes, and its not me because I dont feel the need to call people names.

Mens, Womens, Unisex. Problem solved. I will go in whatever has the lesser queue and smell, tbh.

No need for name calling when your contempt and lack of consideration for women who only want their private spaces without men in them is so evident and ill intended.

That’s your interpretation. At no point have I said biological women should not have their own bathroom.

That's "women".

The word "biological" is unnecessary.

i dunno - think it’s pretty crucial to be explicitly clear.

Well it's only had 86,000 views, so you can understand me thinking many will have missed this :) and performing a public service

Woman is explicitly clear.
Adult human female. That’s a biological definition.

Does not include men of any variety.

Whatsnewpussyhat · 01/03/2024 00:03

Woman is explicitly clear

Yep.
Baffles me why we are expected to have qualifiers added to the words woman/women in order to distinguish us from a group of men.

Why are the feelings of those men deemed more important or 'valid' than women's? (Yes I know it's because they are men. Same old misogyny. Different outfit)

If transwomen were actually women, gender identity ideology would've got precisely fucking nowhere, because they would've been ignored and told to fuck off with their ridiculous demands.

This one's a classic for a reason:

Posting it IS a public service - you can't watch this too often (I wasn't being sarky when I thanked you - hope it didn't come across like that. If so, sorry!)

Precisely. No one would give a shit about their feelings, wishes, privacy, dignity, safety, inner selves, language, or health care They'd be told to think of others, stop being hateful by mentioning their problems, derided for having those problems with men mansplaining how they weren't actually problems at all (because not a problem to men), to use their nice voices and be all compromise and reason if they wanted people to bother listening to them, and that a bit of corrective rape or dying in a grease fire would sort them out. Any stuff they had built themselves would constantly be taken away to give to other groups, with the givers scolding that they minded or protested instead of understanding how much needier everyone else was than them and how it was their job to care about others and meet their needs and not think of themselves. The BBC would ignore them, and MPs would virtue signal by speaking against them.

There'd be actual instead of performative borrowed oppression.
