Starmer: "trans-inclusive" conversion therapy ban, "modernise" the GRA, all hate crime to be aggravated offences as part of making every child "proud and confident"

Exclusive in Diva, following a reception at a LGBT+ Labour event in Parliament on 29 Jan:

https://diva-magazine.com/2024/01/29/exclusive-keir-starmer-lgbtqia-rights/

"“We’ll strengthen the law, so every category of hate crime is treated as an aggravated offence,” Starmer said. “We’ll cut NHS waiting lists for LGBT+ people waiting for urgent physical and mental health care. We’ll modernise the Gender Recognition Act. We’ll implement a full, trans-inclusive, ban on all forms of conversion therapy. We fully support the view that conversion therapy is psychologically damaging abuse.”

“We are committed to a decade of national renewal and will work with all the organisations in this room tonight so every child can feel proud and confident in who they are, to stand up for LGBT+ rights at home and abroad and to get Britain’s future back.”

The mention of children is unclear but must have a background to the full speech? LGBT Labour hasn't tweeted about it but others have. Rayner and Dodds also in attendance.

I've spoken to my prospective conservative candidate, she said a woman is an adult human female, and full in supports single sex spaces. She is replacing Crispin Blunt in the next elections.
I will be voting for her.

Astridspuzzle · 30/01/2024 14:39

anyolddinosaur · 30/01/2024 10:46

I'm going to have to vote conservative then, was really hoping to avoid that.

Yep my heart just sinks now when Starmer opens his mouth. I want sane Labour 🌹

Flowers4me · 30/01/2024 14:41

Me too @HooverIsAlwaysBroken it is disturbing. My mum was denied healthcare (pre covid) because the male GP assumed her pain was due to female ageing. That's misogyny (and ageism) right there; denying her timely access to health care and affecting her family and friends. This is why I cannot vote a party that diminishes female rights. My mum could not get any lower than where she is; disabled and terminally ill due to male arrogance. I know she is not the only one in this situation, but this whole madness is so upsetting.

RethinkingLife · 30/01/2024 11:20

I wish there was a Women's party to vote for.

If only WEP had lived up to its name and were not wholly captured, eh.

Are they?? Then what is the point of them???

EmpressaurusOfTheScathingTinsel · 30/01/2024 12:51

Everyone knows that LGBT+ is code for T.

I wish they’d be honest about that, unless they’re actually saying I can walk into A&E, announce that I’m lesbian & jump the queue. Which would obviously be completely ridiculous.

Yes. It's so disingenuous. He needs to spell out what he means. Presumably he doesn't mean that gay men will be ushered up the cancer queue faster than heterosexual men, or that lesbians will be prioritised for fertility treatment over straight couples. He can only mean that people with gender dysphoria will have shorter waiting times than they do at present for double mastectomies or testosterone/oestrogen supplements. In a health service that is creaking at the seams, it is difficult to see how prioritising these treatments is going to be a vote-winner with the general public.

EmpressaurusOfTheScathingTinsel · 30/01/2024 14:46

To prioritise trans treatment is not right, just because you aren’t LBGTQ+ doesn’t make you worth less.

Starmer doesn’t give a flying fuck about the LGB. This is purely about the TQ and we’re just tacked on. I wish we weren’t.

No not Soros-look up the Pritzker family in the US. An incredibly wealthy and powerful dynasty of policians and CEOs, not least their own company which makes, you guessed it....synthetic hormones used in transition.

Anothenamechange · 30/01/2024 14:44

WEP were all about the trans & the gender ideology right from the start, when they campaigned for men in women’s prisons.

bellinisurge · 30/01/2024 14:48

Open goal for desperate Tories.

Anothenamechange · 30/01/2024 14:50

Found it: this what you get when you follow the money. Absolutely ducking terrifying and this is why you will
never read or hear the word 'woman' in any context in America any more, medical, social or otherwise.

I am genuinely upset by the statement of healthcare. I mourn our dead family member. Cancer treatment was delayed until too late. Our friend (suicide) had a family and I am desperately upset for the children. To prioritise trans treatment is not right, just because you aren’t LBGTQ+ doesn’t make you worth less.

separately, I have read so many tragic stories of de transitioning and so many countries are stepping away from affirmative care.

if Starmer has any personal reasons to be supportive of trans, he should handle that privately. On a societal level, this is madness.

The Nolan principles state:
Selflessness – Holders of public office should act solely in terms of the public interest.
Integrity - Holders of public office must avoid placing themselves under any obligation to people or organisations that might try inappropriately to influence them in their work.

In addition to the political capture of political parties by the trans lobby it's becoming evident that there may be personal / family issues also influencing what should be rational, evidence based political decisions.
Helen Joyce speaks very powerfully about the impact parents of gender questioning children can have on their workplaces. The impact of politicians with a vested interest in protecting their vulnerable children allowing this to influence public policy is very worrying:

Helen Joyce: "Parents have sold their [trans] kids a bill of goods they can't deliver on."

@Flowers4me I am so sorry for you and your mum 💐. Our relative was female as well - go figure. Women are really not considered to be worth anything.

Howtheweeshtwaswon · 30/01/2024 14:55

What he means @RoyalCorgi is prioritising experimental plastic surgeries on, and the sterilisation of, gay, autistic and looked-after children who have mental health issues. It is so unbelievably sinister.

DadJoke · 30/01/2024 15:02

RoyalCorgi · 30/01/2024 10:45

Alarm bells ringing here. What does he mean by cutting NHS waiting lists for LGBT people? There are currently 7m people on NHS waiting lists, so it seems unlikely that he intends prioritising lesbian and gay people on those lists above anyone else. One can only assume he's referring to trans-specific healthcare, ie gender surgeries and hormones.

I want to know what he means by modernising the Gender Recognition Act.

Also the conversion stuff is nonsense, as we all know.

The waiting lists for gender confirmation surgery in the UK is about three years. The current median waiting time for elective surgery is 14.5 weeks. The number of surgeries for transgender people in an average in England is one a day - compare this with the number of appendectomies - 50,000. 2 million people were prescribed HRT, of which 11,000 were transgende people (0.6%).

Shortening the waiting list for people who need gender confirmation surgery to the NHS average will barely impact the NHS, and shortages of HRT are not down to transgender people.

And yes, gay people are affected, toom for example in mental health and fertility. They also suffer worse health outcomes overall.

It is not looking good for us but let us see how that clarify this issue over the next few months. Issue of their own making I would add. It is unlikely the Tories will make any statements soon to emphasise their position.

Chersfrozenface · 30/01/2024 15:08

Appendectomies are not elective surgeries. They are emergency procedures.

lifeturnsonadime · 30/01/2024 15:19

Chersfrozenface · 30/01/2024 15:08

Appendectomies are not elective surgeries. They are emergency procedures.

I mean quite, you literally die if you do not get an appendectomy when you have appendicitis.

Not at all the equivalent .

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 30/01/2024 15:20

The current median waiting time for elective surgery is 14.5 weeks.

I imagine that’s some kind of official figure but it’s clearly bullshit. I wonder how they have managed to come up with it. I know numerous women who have waited over a year for urgent gynaecology appointments for such things as heavy menstrual bleeding going on for months at a time.

SidewaysOtter · 30/01/2024 15:21

if Starmer has any personal reasons to be supportive of trans, he should handle that privately. On a societal level, this is madness.

Wasn't there something odd recently where he referred to having two sons, when previously it was said that he had one son and one daughter. Did anyone ever get to the bottom of that?

duc748 · 30/01/2024 15:25

I've said it before on MN, and I'll say it again: every time Keir Starmer opens his mouth, I like him a little less. He can fuck off with all that.

LodiDodi · 30/01/2024 15:26

Beyond a joke when a 16 year old can get her tits lobbed off for no reason and yet millions remain on waiting lists, living with pain and misery.

QueenBitch666 · 30/01/2024 15:27

Starmer and the rest of his misogynist cronies can get in the fucking bin

DerekFaker · 30/01/2024 15:28

and shortages of HRT are not down to transgender people.

I never said they were.

SinnerBoy · 30/01/2024 15:30

Well, Sir Keir, if you're reading this, what is your take? Do you want to be the Michael Foot of this generation?

duc748 · 30/01/2024 15:31

That's harsh on Michael Foot!
