Starmer: "trans-inclusive" conversion therapy ban, "modernise" the GRA, all hate crime to be aggravated offences as part of making every child "proud and confident"

Exclusive in Diva, following a reception at a LGBT+ Labour event in Parliament on 29 Jan:

https://diva-magazine.com/2024/01/29/exclusive-keir-starmer-lgbtqia-rights/

"“We’ll strengthen the law, so every category of hate crime is treated as an aggravated offence,” Starmer said. “We’ll cut NHS waiting lists for LGBT+ people waiting for urgent physical and mental health care. We’ll modernise the Gender Recognition Act. We’ll implement a full, trans-inclusive, ban on all forms of conversion therapy. We fully support the view that conversion therapy is psychologically damaging abuse.”

“We are committed to a decade of national renewal and will work with all the organisations in this room tonight so every child can feel proud and confident in who they are, to stand up for LGBT+ rights at home and abroad and to get Britain’s future back.”

The mention of children is unclear but must have a background to the full speech? LGBT Labour hasn't tweeted about it but others have. Rayner and Dodds also in attendance.

I wish there was a Women's party to vote for.

If only WEP had lived up to its name and were not wholly captured, eh.

WickedSerious · 30/01/2024 11:24

I don't know who I'll be voting for but it won't be this invertebrate and his merry band of pandering shitwits.

Emotionalsupportviper · 30/01/2024 11:24

I cannot see what policies Labour have or are likely to effect if they get power that will make it worth while selling women's rights and children's safeguarding down the river.

Yep.

I can't even begin to imagine the money that must be being poured into the evil cult.

Everywhere is captured. People who know much better are pretending to eleven that human beings can change sex - and are pushing this agenda to the detriment of women, of children, and ultimately of society itself.

Is it just big Pharma? Surely there must be something/ someone even more insidious who is invested in this?

If Starmer starts a rock band, he would be a fool not to use "The invertebrate and the merry band of pandering shitwits". as a name.

WallaceinAnderland · 30/01/2024 11:27

How can you vote for a man who doesn't understand safeguarding. What kind of leader would that make him. Is he thick?

Toseland · 30/01/2024 11:29

will work with all the organisations in this room tonight
Who are the groups in the room that Labour will work with?
I bet there were no groups representing women.
That's my vote decided then. I'm holding my nose and voting Tory.

TrainedByCatsToBeScathing · 30/01/2024 11:31

I’m never going to vote for a party that has told me they don't want my vote that would just make me feel humiliated and like I’d no self respect.

So that leaves Tory, not voting or spoiling my ballot.. as someone who would be a natural Labour voter I’ve been doing the latter but those statements are scary and Starmers photo op with the Network Rail misogynist isn’t adding to my confidence.

I can’t see an alternative to voting Tory this time Shock

comfyoldcardi · 30/01/2024 11:32

KJK is spending a fortune trying to register the Party of Women. She has been trying to register for months. Given that the Monster Raving Loony party has never had a problem, I find the obstacles placed in her way suspicious and sinister.
As for KS, I think he has personal reasons for going along with this ideology and he is blind to everything else.

villamariavintrapp · 30/01/2024 11:33

It's just so disappointing (though not surprising). I can't vote Tory as have family with chronic health conditions and really rely on NHS. But can't vote labour or Lib Dem. Or SNP. Or Green..

WallaceinAnderland · 30/01/2024 11:35

Please don't vote Tory because of this single (extremely important) issue.

I most definitely will be voting Tory because of this single issue.

It's time for the government to stop pretending sex is not real and it has no impact on women. Fuckers.

I am sorry to hear about your family members

But if Labour prioritises ""trans healthcare", how will they be any better off in sn NHS that will still be seriously resource-constrained?

TheMerryBandofPanderingShitwits · 30/01/2024 11:40

As a woman, I spend my life facilitating the lives of other people.

As a voter, I don't want to do that. I don't want to take one for the team and vote Labour to save the NHS when Labour don't want me as a party member, and they don't even see me as a human being.

ILikeDungs · 30/01/2024 11:40

Utterly predictable.

His position alters depending on his audience, clearly.

And as for Wes Streeting, well he says a lot of stuff. Wasn't he the bloke setting up a blacklist for labour women who believed in biology? His sincerity resembles that of Starmer.

I do not care what anyone in Labour says now because it is all faff, smoke and mirrors.

All the "you must still vote Labour" wims out there, what the fuck??

MarkWithaC · 30/01/2024 11:40

Emotionalsupportviper · 30/01/2024 11:26

It also sounds like one of those 'quirky' novels with long discursive titles.

lady69 · 30/01/2024 11:41

No one should be shocked by this. This is who they are. You vote for them you are voting against your best interests as a woman. When it happens and you voted for them, please don’t come crying about it on this board.

villamariavintrapp · 30/01/2024 11:43

@Chersfrozenface I've seen what the tories have done to the NHS over the past decade and I want them to stop. I need them to stop. I don't want labour to prioritise trans health care either, but I don't even know what that would mean, it's meaningless other than to say that they won't be focussing on woman's health. No surprise there, in all of history nobody has ever focussed on woman's health. It's a travesty, but one that I hope will change in the future. But only if there's a national health service in existence. The tories don't want that.

JanesLittleGirl · 30/01/2024 11:46

I see your true colours shining through.

Howtheweeshtwaswon · 30/01/2024 11:47

“We’ll cut NHS waiting lists for LGBT+ people waiting for urgent physical and mental health care."

Can someone explain to me why LGB and T(and whatever the plus means) people should take priority over everyone else? Is that even legal? It really shouldn't be. 🙄

If anyone really thinks voting Labour is going to make much difference you really dont understand politics. These are Labour's current tax plans https://www.osborneclarke.com/insights/what-tax-measures-could-be-expected-under-labour-government

and there isnt going to be enough money in that to make up for years of austerity, So just where is Labour going to get the money to do anything much?

Improvements in public services, especially the NHS, are badly needed - and I'm willing to be taxed more to pay for them. If you really believe Labour's proposals for growth https://labour.org.uk/updates/press-releases/keir-starmer-announces-plans-to-drive-growth-by-cutting-waiting-lists-and-unlocking-opportunity/ are going to make much difference I have a bridge to sell you. And if they throw any peanuts for the NHS at feeding children puberty blocks or sterilising adults there wont be any peanuts for necessary health care.

The tories have always stolen the more sensible Labour policies and they will do that again.

hairbearbunches · 30/01/2024 12:01

The more we enter hung parliament territory the better, and interviews like this make that more likely. Starmer having a thumping great majority is as bad for this country as the Tories having one. Power goes to their heads, they can ram rod all sorts of policy through and the country is reliant on brave backbenchers voting with their consciences to stop bad policy from being enacted, and that rarely works in practice.

My feeling is that this election will be seismic for reasons the two big parties are clueless about. Reform and the Greens are going to do real damage this time. They might not win many MPs, but if they win enough to stop the two big beasts from having it all their own way, power to their elbows I say. This country deserves so much better than the shit on offer from both the blues and the current reds.

DerekFaker · 30/01/2024 12:06

Words cannot express my contempt for the current Labour party. For fuxkong fuck's sake!!

EmpressaurusOfTheScathingTinsel · 30/01/2024 12:07

That’s it then. I can’t vote Labour.

Yesnosorryplease · 30/01/2024 12:08

I wanted FIVE months for a biopsy. Having been referred under the two week wait protocol...

What urgent physical health care do trans people need over and above all the potential cancer patients?

What evidence is there supporting a group on the basis of gender identity, not health care need?

There is no way I am voting Labour. None. (I have voted for them in every general election so far but never again.)
