Starmer: "trans-inclusive" conversion therapy ban, "modernise" the GRA, all hate crime to be aggravated offences as part of making every child "proud and confident"

Exclusive in Diva, following a reception at a LGBT+ Labour event in Parliament on 29 Jan:

https://diva-magazine.com/2024/01/29/exclusive-keir-starmer-lgbtqia-rights/

"“We’ll strengthen the law, so every category of hate crime is treated as an aggravated offence,” Starmer said. “We’ll cut NHS waiting lists for LGBT+ people waiting for urgent physical and mental health care. We’ll modernise the Gender Recognition Act. We’ll implement a full, trans-inclusive, ban on all forms of conversion therapy. We fully support the view that conversion therapy is psychologically damaging abuse.”

“We are committed to a decade of national renewal and will work with all the organisations in this room tonight so every child can feel proud and confident in who they are, to stand up for LGBT+ rights at home and abroad and to get Britain’s future back.”

The mention of children is unclear but must have a background to the full speech? LGBT Labour hasn't tweeted about it but others have. Rayner and Dodds also in attendance.

Wow.
So if my 10 year says he wants to be a girl, and I send him to counselling about gender dysphoria and explain he cannot be a girl, then I am potentially going to have an aggravated crime against me as well as being charged with a conversion therapy crime....

If you say to him "Are you sure?" you will be charged with administering conversion therapy.

I wanted FIVE months for a biopsy. Having been referred under the two week wait protocol...

What urgent physical health care do trans people need over and above all the potential cancer patients?

What evidence is there supporting a group on the basis of gender identity, not health care need?

There is no way I am voting Labour. None. (I have voted for them in every general election so far but never again.)

My mum has been waiting nearly 3 years for operations on her feet and ankles. She is in almost constant pain and has to walk with sticks. I'm sure lots of people have similar stories.

And I'm sure chronic pain or illness has an affect on most people's mental health.

Women are having to deal with shortages of HRT and all the unpleasant and often debilitating symptoms of menopause and perimenopause. Does anyone in power give a shit?

WHY are these people put on a pedestal and given everything they ask for, even when the evidence is scant at best? It makes me so angry!

If anyone really thinks voting Labour is going to make much difference you really dont understand politics. These are Labour's current tax plans https://www.osborneclarke.com/insights/what-tax-measures-could-be-expected-under-labour-government

and there isnt going to be enough money in that to make up for years of austerity, So just where is Labour going to get the money to do anything much?

Improvements in public services, especially the NHS, are badly needed - and I'm willing to be taxed more to pay for them. If you really believe Labour's proposals for growth https://labour.org.uk/updates/press-releases/keir-starmer-announces-plans-to-drive-growth-by-cutting-waiting-lists-and-unlocking-opportunity/ are going to make much difference I have a bridge to sell you. And if they throw any peanuts for the NHS at feeding children puberty blocks or sterilising adults there wont be any peanuts for necessary health care.

The tories have always stolen the more sensible Labour policies and they will do that again.

Quite.

Streeting is on record as saying that he doesn't believe the solution to the NHS problem is to pour more money into it.

Gcfemale · 30/01/2024 12:18

I will admit, I have never voted as I see most politicians as self serving liars, so all as divisive as each other and history seems to reflect badly on all parties. I may, however, actually have to vote against labour due to this.

^You need to address your pleas to Starmer.
"Please don't force women and responsible adults to vote Tory. Please speak out about Cass, child safeguarding, women's rights because at the moment women think you're a danger to women and children".^

What an excellent idea!

No one should be shocked by this. This is who they are. You vote for them you are voting against your best interests as a woman. When it happens and you voted for them, please don’t come crying about it on this board.

Edited

Yep.

Rainbowshit · 30/01/2024 12:29

Yeah well that's Labour lost my vote.

Helloandgoodmorning2 · 30/01/2024 12:30

I certainly wont be voting Labour or Lib Dem over this issue. We need more secure housing association tenancies; GP surgeries are businesses now and the health of our children was f**d by the lockdowns. I wish we had a party that really stood up for the health and well being of women and children.

SidewaysOtter · 30/01/2024 12:31

And there was me thinking that he'd wait until after an election win before he showed his true colours. But no, he's gone balls deep now, including intimation that trans healthcare will get some sort of priority, it'll be easier to obtain a GRC, affirmation-only will be the only accepted outcome for a child who says they're trans, and women's rights, safeties and identities will be shafted from here to Christmas.

Slipperier than a greased weasel.

SidewaysOtter · 30/01/2024 12:31

ConcertaFirstTimer · 30/01/2024 10:58

Please don't vote Tory because of this single (extremely important) issue. I know it affects over 50% of us detrimentally, but Tory policy affects even more of us detrimentally - all but the very wealthy.

Nope, you don't get to tell anyone how to vote. Fuck off with that.

You want to be angry about people voting Tory? Be angry with Labour for being impossible to vote for.

CaramelMac · 30/01/2024 12:32

I want to vote Labour, I really do, but I can’t support a party where the leader takes the position that a man can be a woman, I simply can’t. I know that’s a privileged position to be in but I blame Labour for putting me in this position.

EasternStandard · 30/01/2024 12:33

God dreading this

KissTheRains · 30/01/2024 12:35

Tory voter here I come, I never thought I'd live to see this day.

Mummyoflittledragon · 30/01/2024 12:36

Nope not voting labour this time. Did hold my nose and do so time…not that it will make much difference. I live in a Tory stronghold.

Flowers4me · 30/01/2024 12:41

I'm not shocked but I'm a bit disappointed; I was hoping they'd consider us women. So, no I won't be voting them and will actively vote against them now.

SquirrelsAssemble · 30/01/2024 12:45

Howtheweeshtwaswon · 30/01/2024 11:47

“We’ll cut NHS waiting lists for LGBT+ people waiting for urgent physical and mental health care."

Can someone explain to me why LGB and T(and whatever the plus means) people should take priority over everyone else? Is that even legal? It really shouldn't be. 🙄

And are they telling us there's nobody desperate enough to coach their struggling, mentally unwell child "Tell them you might be the opposite sex and you'll get help quicker"

I'm trying to think of a healthcare situation where a self-selecting group (i.e. no measurable criteria like there were for COVID jabs for over 65s) have been prioritised for treatment.

Hepwo · 30/01/2024 12:49

It's nonsense isn't it?
Will I just have to announce that I'm bisexual to get seen sooner for urgent treatment?

I can be a gay man if that's quicker?

EmpressaurusOfTheScathingTinsel · 30/01/2024 12:51

Everyone knows that LGBT+ is code for T.

I wish they’d be honest about that, unless they’re actually saying I can walk into A&E, announce that I’m lesbian & jump the queue. Which would obviously be completely ridiculous.

HooverIsAlwaysBroken · 30/01/2024 12:54

“We’ll cut NHS waiting lists for LGBT+ people waiting for urgent physical and mental health care."

this really upsets me. We have lost one family member to butchered cancer treatment and one friend to suicide. Neither were part of LGBTQ+. Apparently they don’t matter.

I have daughters, I will have to hold my nose and vote Tory as well.

EasternStandard · 30/01/2024 12:57

Well at least it’s out there and all those posters telling us Labour will be good for women’s rights are kaput

pronounsbundlebundle · 30/01/2024 13:00

Yep voting against Labour now. Hoping there will be an independent and - ideally - party of woman candidate so I don't actually have to vote Tory, but will do so if I have to.

Obviously the lib dems are even worse than labour. Apparently it's actually a con / lib dem contest here and quite close. I quite like the lib dem candidate and I suspect he's not intent on destroying women's rights as he has daughters that he seems to care about but whilst the lib dem stance is outright denial of reality, destruction of safeguarding and women's rights, I don't have a lot of choice.

I'm on sickness benefits. Poor as they come an dim considering voting Tory for the first time in my life.

My daughter has already been dragged into this gender questioning nightmare.

It's needs to end.

IamRoyFuckingKent · 30/01/2024 13:08

I've never voted Tory in my life but I will next time. Respect my sex if you want my X

Looking at our local lot, I'll be spoiling my ballot. I just cannot ever vote Tory.
