London Bridge railway station political gender flags - how to complain

There is a lot of concern on twitter over a set of flag illustrations on a pillar at London Bridge Station.

https://www.networkrail.co.uk/stories/london-bridge-station-celebrates-lgbt-history-month/

Sex Matters have now issued a formal complaint to the authorities about it see letter below.

We have written to Andrew Haines @networkrail and @LordPeterHendy about the intimidating political display at London Bridge station

You can make a complaint here https://communications-crm.custhelp.com/app/ask?var=complaint

This has resulted in the discovery that Shane Andrews, Network rail’s LGBT+ lead, who is also a scout leader (and a trustee of the Scouts), an independent police custody inspector, a school governor - used abusive sexist/homophobe slang all over his social media. He went on a huge deleting spree, but copies of his tweets are being shared widely.

Let's put up a suffragette flag and see whether that's 'just a flag' then.

Is that not a suffragette flag down the bottom of the second pillar poster

Tsk! It's the "Genderqueer" flag now!

No, it's the genderqueer flag as per the post upthread.

ETA - too slow!

That pillar looks just ripe for a good stickering.

<packs bag for next London trip>

Tomorrow here, v excited 😊

RoyalCorgi and BoreofWhabylon

Thanks. How is the bloke in any sort of job anywhere? Especially, as everyone has pointed out, in the Scouts?

The scouts seem to attract men like this unfortunately.

For clarification and in case of screenshots, I mean unpleasant misogynists. Non binary gregor whatstheysface was in scouting and if I recall it was theys complaints which led to Maya F being investigated for 2 years.

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-10326933/Scout-leaders-apologise-woman-hounded-calling-bearded-man-social-media.html

Gregors twitter output was also a cesspit of misogynistic slurs.

I travel through London Bridge regularly and would be up for wrapping that pillar jn a giant suffragette flag.

Just not this week because the utter twatbadgers are on strike again this week so I can't get there. 🙄

NeighbourhoodWatchPotholeDivision · 29/01/2024 16:58

Are all these flags supposed to represent groups covered by TQ+?

So the polyamorous (people who have multiple sexual relationships simultaneously) and demisexuals (people who only feel sexual attraction to people they have an emotional bond with) are officially included as TQ+ now?

Well, THAT's telling them. What a fabulous post.

EdithStourton · 29/01/2024 17:09

Good Lord, SA should not be left in charge of a whelk stall, never mind be asked to represent anything. Nauseating tweets.

I'd much rather Network Rail spent their time running a bloody railway (rather than rail replacement bus services, which are the norm here at the weekend), not trying 'educate' us all.

LakeTiticaca · 29/01/2024 17:09

Maybe Network rail should pay a little more attention to actually running a rail service. Half the time they are on bloody strike

I reckon if two people went at the pillar with a big enough flag - one either side - you could get the flag tied on and disappear before anyone knew it was happening….

Talkinpeace · 29/01/2024 17:11

Network Rail do not have the resources to put in level access
or mend the lifts and escalators at stations
to help the 21% of the population who are disabled
but they have the resources to throw paint at a pillar.

Yesnosorryplease · 29/01/2024 17:27

AyrshireTryer · 29/01/2024 15:32

erm...really. Nobody? You sure now?

Are you totally fine with LGBT people always been associated with polyamory?!

I personally would find that offensive. Being same sex attracted does not mean anything other than that. I would be annoyed that those bits of the 1980s have come along and are seemingly being elevated and championed by inclusion groups meant to represent lgb people.

That is what diversity and inclusion has become. It's all about rainbows and lanyards because it's easy.

Actual inclusion, for example making trains and stations accessible is harder, costlier and just not as much fun.

ExitRamp · 29/01/2024 17:29

Yeah, you can be sure a policy or ideology doesn't change anything when Wall St firms are encouraging it.

afternoonoflife · 29/01/2024 17:34

Yes. I think it’s very inclusive of Network Rail to make their trains so delayed that two demisexuals have enough time onboard to form an emotional bond with each other and can therefore go at it like rabbits upon disembarkation. #inclusivity #diversion

WaterHound · 29/01/2024 17:47

I would love to say that all of this surprises me but...🙄

Yesnosorryplease · 29/01/2024 17:52

I'm really not sure how on board I am with making out that having an emotional or romantic connection with someone before shagging them is so out of the norm that it needs a flag and amplified visibility.

I know some people shag in the absence of any getting to know each other first but they are the minority group. What's their flag?

I'm so far from being a prude. I'm very happy to have open and honest conversations with my DC (who have close family members who are LGB) but I'm not actually up for them being taught that having a connection with someone prior to having sex with them is weird.

Things have certainly changed since Brief Encounter.

And I know for a fact (because I remember a disabled friend of mine spending a several Sunday afternoons typing outraged letters) that the atrocious access to the railways as been an issue since at least 1985...

PaulaJGriffin65 · 29/01/2024 18:30

This is for LGBTQI+ History Month. Not sure what a suffragette flag has to do with that? If there’s not one there for Women’s History Month in March then surely you’ll have a valid complaint.

NeighbourhoodWatchPotholeDivision · 29/01/2024 18:31

The black-and-white striped one with a rainbow capital A on is the... straight ally flag. People who support gay and bisexual rights, although they aren't same-sex attracted themselves.

I did not realise straight people were excluded from train services, did you?

Shane Andrews twitter was an absolute mess. No wonder he deactivated, but christ how so these men get into the positions they do.

That's always what I wonder. They must be able to pretend to be normal for a short period of time...
