London Bridge railway station political gender flags - how to complain

There is a lot of concern on twitter over a set of flag illustrations on a pillar at London Bridge Station.

https://www.networkrail.co.uk/stories/london-bridge-station-celebrates-lgbt-history-month/

Sex Matters have now issued a formal complaint to the authorities about it see letter below.

We have written to Andrew Haines @networkrail and @LordPeterHendy about the intimidating political display at London Bridge station

You can make a complaint here https://communications-crm.custhelp.com/app/ask?var=complaint

This has resulted in the discovery that Shane Andrews, Network rail’s LGBT+ lead, who is also a scout leader (and a trustee of the Scouts), an independent police custody inspector, a school governor - used abusive sexist/homophobe slang all over his social media. He went on a huge deleting spree, but copies of his tweets are being shared widely.

It's the non binary flag.

It's the genderqueer flag (try explaining what that means to anyone never mind children). Apparently the person who created had no idea what it represents in the UK since the US suffragette colours are completely different.

Why on earth would they display a flag representing paedophilia? It's the polyamory flag.

Attitudes like this remind me of the 80s, when gay men and lesbians like me were lumped in with paedophiles. I thought society had moved on but sadly, clearly not.

Please see the post by @Januarydontbecool above. Nobody here is linking gay and lesbian people with paedophilia.

erm...really. Nobody? You sure now?

FrancescaContini · 29/01/2024 15:34

Erm not that I can see but perhaps you could enlighten me?

It cannot be any clearer in this man's posts. He absolutely seems to hate women yet has seemed to have risen to positions of influence all over the place. Particularly within the spheres of LGBT.

Hating women/active misogyny seems to be in requisite for many of these influential positions. The main focus of many of them seems to be expanding men's sexual opportunism unquestioned.

FrancescaContini · 29/01/2024 15:37

The misogyny on display in that man’s comments are quite disturbing.

"We can’t see all the way round the pillar to be reassured that it’s not there, but perhaps one of our readers will pass by and report back."

This suggests that @Januarydontbecool is still expecting some kind of MAP flag to be displayed. I am confused why it's assumed authorities would have a flag representing paedophiles alongside the rainbow flag? Why are the two linked?

Theyarehere · 29/01/2024 15:48

He’s a filthy character isn’t he! Taking illicit photographs of young men and happily discussing it online (imagine finding yourself in his private photo collection, poor men), not to mention his disgusting language about women. Urrgh Grim!

FrancescaContini · 29/01/2024 15:51

Because MAP have a flag that I have seen listed alongside other flags in a similar list to the Volvo one above (Volvo should stick to car manufacturing) so I was curious to know if their flag was also on display. After all, most of the flags make zero sense to many people which suggests that there’s perhaps nobody in authority at London Bridge keeping a close eye on which flags are displayed and what they represent.

SidewaysOtter · 29/01/2024 15:52

That pillar looks just ripe for a good stickering.

<packs bag for next London trip>

Arrogance? And never having to be accountable for their actions?

Edited

Or maybe the undercurrent of misogyny in some male gay circles.

ValerieDoonican · 29/01/2024 16:11

Still not quite sure how polyamourous people are (or even feel) more unsafe than anyone else using a train though?

LakeTiticaca · 29/01/2024 16:12

Have his comments about 15 year old boys on the bus been reported to the police?

BoreOfWhabylon · 29/01/2024 16:14

His TwiX account no longer exists.

@SinnerBoy

Oh dear God.

BoreOfWhabylon · 29/01/2024 16:18

Quite.

ValerieDoonican · 29/01/2024 16:20

In.the light of the screenshots in that tweet just shared, I imagine if anyone is likely to be feeling unsafe on trains it could be young men who are being ogled/eavesdropped or PHOTOGRAPHED WITHOUT PERMISSION BY NETWORK RAIL STAFF! Not sure there's a flag to solve that problem.

Unless its a nice colouful rendering of someone's P45?

It's not the Rainbow Flag that's linked, it's the multitude of other unnecessary flags that imply that every sexual behavior (or none = i.e.asexual) should have a separate identity and a flag. That's how pedophiles are sneaking in and reframing their desire to abuse children; as a legitimate sexual identity among many.

Januarydontbecool · 29/01/2024 16:27

@OForGoodnessSake ‘This suggests that @Januarydontbecool is still expecting some kind of MAP flag to be displayed.’

No, I wanted to be reassured that it wasn’t.

“Shane Andrews (MBE), chair of Archway, said: “We hope that those who view the pillar will take away with them not only the history and knowledge of the flags and communities but whoever they are and identify, know they are not alone and will find courage to live their life in a more tolerant and informed society.”

How do passers by learn the history of the flags? Perhaps by scanning the QR code?

SinnerBoy · 29/01/2024 16:37

RoyalCorgi and BoreofWhabylon

Thanks. How is the bloke in any sort of job anywhere? Especially, as everyone has pointed out, in the Scouts?

BoreOfWhabylon · 29/01/2024 16:42

He's also on the judging panel for the Women in Rail awards 2024.

Shane adds: "I’ve been a supporter of Women in Rail for many years, from mentoring members to speaking at the annual conference, it’s a fantastic organisation."
“I felt very fortunate to be invited to attend the Women in Rail Awards last year and was in absolute awe of the nominees and winners, so to have been asked to be a judge feels a real privilege and one I didn’t hesitate in saying yes to!”

FrancescaContini · 29/01/2024 16:48

Excellent! That’ll give Shane the chance to use every derogatory word under the sun to describe his female colleagues. He has quite a few colourful terms in his repertoire…

Useful facts for your complaint.
