@BobbleWobbleHat

They want to dictate what FONT you use? JFC

pronounsbundlebundle · 24/01/2024 09:53

I do wonder if I can put 'menopausal so might forget things, also on a short fuse from decades of doing things for other people so doesn't have time to accommodate other people's needs if they're not a direct relation' as a medical condition

Surely, a lot of middle aged woman would have this medical condition? At what point does my screaming internal outrage at being treated as a subhuman service unit become a medical condition where I don't have to pander to narcissists?

borntobequiet · 24/01/2024 09:54

what font you should use in emails

Wingdings, obviously.

BobbleWobbleHat · 24/01/2024 09:56

@pronounsbundlebundle that's definitely what happened with me. I was v publicly pulled up for referring to a newly nb 'they' (but previously happy to be referred to as she/her) by their 'deadname' about a week after the change had been announced. It was horrific and just meant I avoided speaking in meetings and interacting with those who were the fierce monitors. It does not help you work well at all. Having to use all your thinking time to bring up the right words rather than conveying the work related content is hard. Especially if you yourself have any particular challenges related to health or things like hearing. Totally understand that all those needs are secondary, obviously.

BobbleWobbleHat · 24/01/2024 09:57

@ickky they are kind enough to separate out which are unacceptable and must never be used, which are ok and which would be best. So I guess your choices are then seen in moral terms...

BobbleWobbleHat · 24/01/2024 09:58

@borntobequiet hahahaha I used to love wingdings back in the 80s. My siblings and I would just type stuff out in different fonts and print it for the fun of it. Kids don't know they're burn these days!

I feel your pain. But we're just the wrong kind of women. Not sure we're allowed those hurty feelings.

I genuinely feel my need to not suffer fools should be formally recognised and facilitated!

LarkLane · 24/01/2024 09:59

@ickky I've just checked my email again and no response back from MNHQ regarding my supposed two accounts. I replied to them at tea time yesterday referencing my only email account used for MN and offered to assist further in enquiries if needed.

I'm guessing that my deleted observation on yesterday's thread touched a nerve somewhere as others have suggested on the other thread, and a report was generated .Where the evidence is of a supposed second account I dunno. Not particularly worried, if I disappear then I'll still be looking in reading FWR. 😀

The only socks I have are on my feet.

Don't know much biology...'

[...]

But I do know that X and Y
Don't mean a person is a guy
In the wonderful world of ERCC!

nauticant · 24/01/2024 10:01

Thanks for the clarification about closing submissions @Justabaker. Also, thanks for the work of Tribunal Tweets, I view that effort as part of the infrastructure of the push-back against gender identity ideology in the UK.

Yeah, yeah...

(Joking, obv)

Waitwhat23 · 24/01/2024 10:06

I'm also reminded of the sock puppet bit from the TV show Coupling but I can't find a video!

If you know, you know.

Presumably they can't say it because that would be a denial of TWAW. (And they'd get.more emails.for the Hate folder.)

The grown up in me would say that any emails that I'd received regarding the upset would get a response that refers to the funding that the centre was working under and to refer them to the funders if they felt it was an issue.

Not start a 'hate' folder.

It is just so utterly bloody childish.

Boiledbeetle · 24/01/2024 10:11

Adds correction of pronouns as something I'd overlooked mentioning when describing my current meeting experience. (I have 3 such meetings today, save me.)

In response to:

When they attend events or meetings they always centre their contribution around themselves, eg “I’m a trans migrant woman of colour”

I envy you if this is unusual. "I'm [X], my pronouns are [several]. I live with ADHD, this may manifest as taking thought breaks. If I delay before responding, please don't speak as it interrupts my thought and may trigger mutism. I have rejection sensitivity dysphoria so consider how you frame responses to me." and it goes on. Usually, a couple of (mental) health conditions and maybe even a physical description: "I have [Y]-length, [colour] hair, with [X]-coloured eyes".

Add in the number of people who tell you about the land on which their institution stands, the displaced people, various historical treaties…it genuinely cuts down on any meeting time if there are several speakers. (I do mean virtual as well as in-person.)

Context: healthcare; charities and voluntary organisations; training or public events for all of these; academic events for these; working group meetings for all these.

The only sane response to anything like this is "FFS!" (with an 🙄)

I do sometimes say this to my pronoun wielding colleagues. One of them gave me a hard time for using the wrong pronoun for someone who wasn't there so I replied that I was in the menopause and it was difficult for me to remember everything becuase of the medical aspects of that. It was fun watching her fall over herself to apologise for not being kind

WallaceinAnderland · 24/01/2024 10:12

I'm in already. That was quick!
