No surprise to anyone on here, I would guess. Those poor girls.

I watched on the BBC this morning with the impressive women speaking who had tried to help the girls and themselves been ignored and vilified. No one should miss this. It very important to know what has been happening.

Tallisker · 15/01/2024 13:25

Yes, CrowBlack, the powers that be had the mindset that the young teenage girls were saucy little madams who knew exactly what they were doing with their feminine wiles leading the men on. They weren't and they didn't. They were CHILDREN.

Sumsummer · 15/01/2024 13:27

I see so many similarities with this and the Epstein case just richer perpetrators.

I dontbthink you can blame it on someone's race.

Weren't there social services reports being all "non judgmental" and "respecting the service user's sexual empowerment" when they were reporting having sex with multiple men underage and getting pregnant

Someone involved in the case (might have been Maggie Oliver) was discussing this on the radio this morning. She pointed out that black and Asian men are, across the criminal justice system, more likely to be arrested and charged of crimes. That this didn't happen in Rochdale suggests that something else was going on. Essentially the attitudes towards the girls.

AlecTrevelyan006 · 15/01/2024 13:32

In some ways it’s not dissimilar to the post office scandal - the ‘little people’ are never listened to and the establishment closes ranks to protect itself.

but don’t worry, ‘lessons will be learned’.

Yes, that too. So open minded their brains had fallen out.

You have only got to drive around Oldham & Rochdale at night to see that this is still going on and probably always will. Like other PP has said, society almost expects that women will be subject to some form of sexual violence within their lifetime. These girls are children, often the most vulnerable in our society and no one can protect them. It has gone too far. Some of these girls in Oldham were picked up from childrens homes by these grown men!!

This is appalling. What can we do?

Sharontheodopolodous · 15/01/2024 13:58

It's still going on! (I'm talking about a well known city up north)

It just went more into hiding

I have a cousin (well, her mum is my cousin) who is being groomed right this second

My ds works in the hospital in my home town

One night he was called out to deal with a young girl who's 'much older boyfriend' (clearly her pimp),was refusing to leave her overnight-shed been so badly beaten, she ended up in intensive care

My son recognised her name-and messaged me to see if it was the same girl (hadn't seen her for years)

He then rang the police and social services-the police refused to even speak to her on the phone let alone come out to speak to her and her social worker just laughed at ds and told him 'it's down to her lifestyle choices' 'shes a silly girl' and ''she knows what she's doing-being very silly, the little minx'

Her latest 'stepdad' (mum died last year) just laughs and eggs her on,her uncle is up on child abuse charges himself and her grandparents are dead

This is a young girl, who has been in and out of care all her life, lost her mum (who made Karen Matthews look like mum of the year-we all know the type) and has had a line of 'mums boyfriends being called dad' (real dad is in prison,2 siblings are as well and the other 2 just use her for their own amusement)

The only person she's got in her life, who she believes is the only person who cares about her at 14/15 is this 'boyfriend' who's in his early 40's and she sees nothing wrong with being 'shared'(raped) with his mates for a bottle of booze and a few fags-they seem to be untouchable-and they know it

Ds has tried to contact anyone he thinks could help, but they either laugh at him or she goes into hiding until the coast is clear

Nobody is listening-shes a young,'streetwise' (she's not-she just has a gob on her) and had a tough upbringing, young girl who's frightened and lashes out

She was ripe for the picking

CrowBlack · 15/01/2024 14:12

@Sharontheodopolodous

Sounds as if they have her on drugs or are black mailing her in some way .

She takes drugs daily

And drinks until she blacks out-he provides her with both and she 'had to pay him back'

It's the lack of action from ss,police, nspcc etc that is shocking

They just laugh as soon as you mention her name

ArabellaScott · 15/01/2024 14:21

Sharon that is so hard to read.

Sharontheodopolodous · 15/01/2024 16:24

ArabellaScott · 15/01/2024 14:21

Sharon that is so hard to read.

It's disgusting

I tried to phone her sw and was told to 'go away'

They know full well what's going on but don't care

I was told she's 'made her choices' (!), 'knows what she's doing' (!) and is a 'naughty little minx' (so let's blame her for her own abuse and brainwashing-if you ask her, she's just dating her boyfriend and the world is wrong about him)

She's 14/15! (I'm not 100% sure when her birthday is)

At that age I was struggling with my homework, trying (and failing) to find a boyfriend, babysitting for cash and trying to work out what make-up suited me

She's been raped every fucking day, plied with god knows how much booze and drugs and everyone who is paid to protect her,is turning a blind eye and doing nothing as she's a kid who was born on the 'wrong side of the tracks' (not my words)

She deserves so much more-and she is just one girl-it's much deeper than her and a lot more widespread than the police,ss and the media would have you believe

And nobody is doing anything-and what has have been done,is only because of pressure from the public

Believe me,a lot more needs doing

Cancelledcurio · 15/01/2024 16:34

This is so upsetting. I fecking hate men sometimes. I have so much rage for these men!!! Those poor wee lassies and they are wee lassies! Just wanting love and attention ! Despicable men!

BorgQueen · 15/01/2024 16:41

It was ( probably still is) happening around Stoke when DD started her 1st Teaching job. A stream of Asian Men in cars at hometime picking Girls up. The fact that there was a resident Police officer at the school due to the gangs problem didn’t seem to deter them. One of many reasons why DD left there after 2 years, everyone just shrugged their shoulders.

Rainbowshit · 15/01/2024 16:45

I am so angry. The police just do not care about females. It's shameful.

Blanket601 · 15/01/2024 16:51

And even now, the BBC do not write in their report WHY the failing was so big. Because the police were afraid of being labelled racist. When the fact remained it was ‘certain groups of men’ who were proliferating the hideous crimes.
That situation is even worse today. Women gave fewer rights and less visibility than we did then.

PatatiPatatras · 15/01/2024 16:53

Teenagers being told they have the competence to make full adult decision irrespective of eventual harm. 🙄

This should be a once in a generation story and it should not repeat itself.

For that we'd need to know why it happened and why the shouting nagging puritanical women who didn't understand sex positivity were not listened to.

I feel like we'll never know neither one nor the other.

Big thanks to these women who fought a fight I just can't seem to manage.

"Everything being done now, should have been done then. All it would have taken is the right people actually giving a damn."
.....

"I am angry that not one senior officer or official has ever been held individually responsible for these failures, lies and cover ups."

JayAlfredPrufrock · 15/01/2024 17:38

And sadly there have already been several tv programmes based on these happenings but they haven’t spurred anyone into action 🤔

I'm really sorry @Sharontheodopolodous .

By the way this is the Maggie Oliver foundation

mommatoone · 15/01/2024 18:16

@Sharontheodopolodous - I am truly sorry to read this about your relative. But i want to say thankyou for sharing your story, and highlighting the depravity that is happening RIGHT NOW. This is real life, with real victims. These girls are passed round from pillar to post by men who are operating right under the nose of the authorities. I don't know what the answer is, other than people in power need to be held accoutable. Like fuck that will happen. In the meantime, lets hope Maggie Oliver continues to do her fantastic work and these young girls have somewhere to turn.

duc748 · 15/01/2024 18:40

Plenty of coverage on the TV news tonight. Let's hope it reaches a critical mass where things actually start to happen. It's taken long enough.

lordloveadog · 15/01/2024 18:57

Sharon that's appalling to read and it must be agony for you.

okthenwhat · 15/01/2024 19:05

A while ago I heard a quote about this type of thing. I wish I could remember who said it and where but it always comes to mind when I read a news story about CSE in towns and cities in the UK.

A campaigner said they were discussing a grooming gangs with a senior figure for child protection who said:

"We don't have a problem with grooming gangs, we have a problem with child prostitues."

Naptrappedmummy · 15/01/2024 19:12

CrowBlack · 15/01/2024 10:38

I blame the police because they knew for years and did nothing, thereby emboldening the abusers who did this in plain sight .

I also blame the parents of the girls (if not in the care system). It’s your essential job to protect your children, and they didn’t.

Edit: in addition to the police of course, I just think that parents if present should also be held to account.
