Really insightful post on X the platform formally known as Twitter I feel it's worth sharing on here:

Did he not join the male football team? In 2020 he was intending to.

If KH did eventually move back to a male team that’s something but I remember one of the high profile WPUK speakers making a huge fuss of KH at a WPUK meeting I attended in 2018 (whilst said speaker also not engaging with ordinary female attendees) and I was pretty sure KH was playing on a female team at the time.

Helleofabore · 15/01/2024 15:25

How interesting. He is now very vocal about supporting female sports categories.

Much as it pains me to say it, this coercive, ostracising, bullying behaviour is all over the left, from Billy Bragg to Hackney Labour to The Real Feminists of Brighton.

I wish it wasn’t but once you see it…

(perhaps it exists within right wing circles too but I don’t have any experience of that because I have no experience of right wing groups at all)

I think left and right need to go back to meaning economics, where I’m still left wing!

I cannot stand all the petty authoritarianism on the current left, was it always there or has it crept in with ID politics/the progressive stack/intersectuonalism stuff?

I think the left has a difficult relationship with reality so it's not surprising. The left views the world and human nature as it wants it to be, rather than how it is. I think this is the fundamental reason they're less successful at getting into power. They silence the majority view but it comes out in the polling booth. I'm thinking of the red wall and immigration, which has been a hot topic for years. If they deny facts and refuse to listen to people's concerns, it's a slam dunk for the tories even if they're useless, but they won't accept the root of the problem they need to address, because its inherently outside their understanding. I don't really understand what drives it. They're a group of idealists? These are just my observations though.

EmpressaurusOfTheScathingTinsel · 15/01/2024 15:31

I remember KH being on stage at FiLiA a few years ago as part of a WPUK panel, and announcing that he’d use unisex toilets where available but if there weren’t any he was coming into the women’s. He was outraged when he saw how unimpressed the audience were with that idea.

DrSpartacularsScathingTinsel · 15/01/2024 15:39

I'd no more give up the word feminist because there's disagreement on what it means than I'd give up the word woman because there's disagreement on what it means.

You're not maybe thinking of Miranda Yardley playing rugby on a mn's team?

Wtf do they give the dude a platform? can’t they see the hypocrisy and that it alienates women who would otherwise support them?

I checked back through KH twitter and KH appears to have had an epiphany about women’s sports in 2020 so definitely still playing women’s sports when I saw them

when I was new to this debate I was pathetically grateful for people like KH and DH speaking out but as I read more I came to realise they are a bigger part of the problem than the Isla Byron’s and they should be left in obscurity

No KH tweeted in 2020 that he was joining a men’s team.

TinselAngel · 15/01/2024 15:43

WPUK's loyalty to Harrison goes quite far. Remember the Morning Star cartoon debacle? (I can elaborate if nobody else remembers).

To show to the left that they're not "transphobic".

TrainedByCats · 15/01/2024 15:45

The transwidows threads have been an important part of my education and realising how #bekind to the TW allies infiltrators is a foolish strategy.

Thank-you TinselAngel

Which as we all know has got them precisely nowhere

TinselAngel · 15/01/2024 15:48

Quite. See also Kathleen Stock, who tried to be the reasonable face of terfery and was still hounded out of her job.

I see I got deleted on that thread too. Plus ca change.

Interesting cartoon I’m not sure I was as engaged back then

Quite a few deletions on that thread, and long posts

UtopiaPlanitia · 15/01/2024 16:13

Interesting article in The Critic examining women and feminism’s disagreements (on gender ideology). I think it’s relevant to this thread’s discussion 🤔

'The golden bridge can and should remain extended but, overall, it’s in reality-based feminists’ interests to admit and accept that, when it comes to the sisterhood, #notallwomen.'

EmpressaurusOfTheSevenOceans · 15/01/2024 16:16

That was a really funny cartoon that made an important point.

Edited to add that I’m going to assume everyone knows both Empresses are me. I’d be crap at socking.

Stupid?

Ha, yes, I think that is an explanation for some of what we see.

I am thinking though of when you are afraid of being accused of something yourself, so you accuse others?

TempestTost · 15/01/2024 16:35

Not the ones I'm thinking off but similar.

I think in psychology it's more of an interior motivation.

I keep wanting to say projection, but I think it's something similar but not that.

Maybe I am just making it up.

NeighbourhoodWatchPotholeDivision · 15/01/2024 16:39

I take the point that women shouldn't have conceded the term 'feminist', but at the time, the arguments that the rest of us were harming women's interests by using it were very persuasive. I know I took them at their word when the Brighton Collective said behind-the-scenes negotiations were being affected by their inability to distance themselves from unaffiliated women, just because the women called themselves feminists. Hmm

My main reason for calling myself a feminist was in order to spite a particular kind of right-wing man, and I was certainly prepared to give up that satisfaction for the sake of women everywhere and our rights to single-sex prisons, hospital wards, changing rooms and so on!

These days, it's more about wanting to distance myself from the Brighton collective... But I'm fucked if any of them are going to chase me off FWR. It's women on AIBU and FWR who educated me on what was going on, long before I'd heard of any of the Brighton collective, so why should I stop using this forum for them?

I don't know if there's a single word for it, but I think that if you're scared of being accused of being a witch, it may be very practical to establish a reputation as a good, godfearing Christian woman by accusing other women first.

There is probably a very long German word for such attempts to build social credibility.
