The problem is that the BBCs hands are tied by IPSO-they make the guidance on how to report stories.....the BBC are just sticking to the rules....but I have complained as well as is disgusting

The Mail managed to convey that this person is a biological male, including previous name, wrapped up in a fawning puff piece.

Nothing seems to have happened to that paper.

The police and the BBC could quite easily have said this person was transgender and was born male - those are just facts.

They are misrepresenting the situation and lying by omission.

CorruptedCauldron · 09/12/2023 13:17

The BBC’s raison d’etre is to educate, inform, and entertain.

Educate - teach you indisputable facts. Like, men are women if they say they are? Um, nope, try again. That’s not educating me, that’s telling lies like the Earth is flat and 2+2=5.

Inform - tell you facts you may not have previously been aware of. Something about a female predator, say what? Female? Really? Are you sure? I do not feel like you have kept me very well informed when I later find out this female is a male.

Entertain - Far from being entertaining, this is well beyond a joke. Gaslighting to the max. And they mean it, man. Otherwise they wouldn’t put male people with feminine gender identities into the 100 women list.

GrimDamnFanjo · 09/12/2023 13:22

The GMP tweeted about this "female" but turned off comments...

Could they at least not insert a line to say he was born a man?

guinnessguzzler · 09/12/2023 13:30

How dare they? Absolutely gives me the rage. That poor child. And for this to be reported, possibly even recorded, as a woman's crime? Massively skewing the statistics since such a tiny minority of women ever do behave in this way. How fucking dare they?!

duc748 · 09/12/2023 13:42

It is shit on a stick. The BBC sinks even further in public regard. I don't believe 'their hands are tied'; surely they are capable of giving their readers the truth? And as for GMP...

Sisterpita · 09/12/2023 13:58

Complaints to BBC and GMP submitted.

DialSquare · 09/12/2023 14:01

Fucking disgusting all round. That poor child.

Strange that the usual detractors on here never post on these type of threads.

IWilloBeACervix · 09/12/2023 14:08

Complained, and I will be following up on the complaint through the entire complaints procedure. Then I’ll take it to Ofcom.

reallyfedup123 · 09/12/2023 14:16

I’ve just written a complaint on the link someone posted. This is absolutely disgusting. No matter how many operations this MAN gets or what clothes he wears he will be a man. That behaviour is really sick and I’m sorry to say this I knew it wasn’t a woman either when I read the headline.

334bu · 09/12/2023 14:22

Complained

forgotmyusername1 · 09/12/2023 14:33

are they definately the same person?

the names are different

just before there is a witch hunt.

CatChant · 09/12/2023 14:34

I have complained too. Deliberately inaccurate reporting is not journalism but propaganda.

The age, location, middle name and surname are all the same.

EarthSight · 09/12/2023 14:45

You know what's disturbing? The use of inverted commas for the word predatory, but not for the word woman.

TrainedByCats · 09/12/2023 14:55

if the BBC complaints process replies to your complaint saying they were following IPSO guidance it’s worth pointing out it is non-binding guidance it is not regulatory

catduckgoose · 09/12/2023 15:00

Sent my complaint in too:

Your article www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-manchester-67659811 titled "'Predatory' woman who incited man to abuse child, 4, jailed" incorrectly describes the predator, Nathan "Naomi" O'Brien, as a woman, even though he is actually a man who calls himself a woman. You have described this as the crime of a woman but it is really the crime of a man. This isn't the first time the BBC has gone along with the fictional identity of a male criminal. It's inaccurate reporting and is biased against women in general. At the very least, you should mention in your article that he is a "transwoman" or that he is male. To omit this gives a false impression to your readers.

Could've worded it better but hopefully gets the point across!

theilltemperedclavecinist · 09/12/2023 15:02

Didn't Suella Braverman tell the police to call men men? I started a thread (which crashed and burned due to my poor framing) in which I disagreed with her, and proposed that the police should record both birth sex and trans status (for maximum data integrity) and that the press release should refer to - say - this individual as a transgender woman, but also always include an explanation of what that really means, so that readers get the full picture ...

HermioneWeasley · 09/12/2023 15:11

When as a society did we decide the feelings of rapists and paedophiles were more important than the truth

IcakethereforeIam · 09/12/2023 15:16

I've complained to the Beeb.

teawamutu · 09/12/2023 15:16

Complaint sent, with a request that the story is at the very least updated to make it clear that the offender is biologically male.

And I will also take it to OfCom. Didn't they update to say mentioning bio sex is ok if it's relevant?

I think I meant IPSO guidelines.

Noshowlomo · 09/12/2023 15:23

They have turned off comments on their post too, cowards

Predatory woman who incited man to abuse child, 4 jailed
therealcookiemonster · 09/12/2023 15:37

only 4 years? and the other guy, only 13 years? I can never understand these sentences. these creeps need to be jailed for life.
