Not exactly defending the BBC, they're useless on this. However having worked in BBC newsrooms, it's extremely likely the journalist just lifted it from the Press Release from GMP. The wording is almost exactly the same. They may have thought it was a real woman and not even realised. They've just repeated it verbatim because they think the Police are a trusted source. More fool them. If that is what happened and I was that journalist I'd be bloody furious and bollocking the Press Officer at GMP for making me look like an idiot.

My fury this time is aimed at GMP. How bloody dare they gaslight us all (including the victim). Not to even call her a trans woman but a woman? Just feck off and then feck off some more.

Who do you complain to above GMP? They're bloody useless.

Having also worked in a BBC newsroom, I agree that this has probably been lifted from press release and no one noticed the transgender aspect.

While GMP have a lot to answer for, why are journalists not automatically looking into this? There’s almost always a back story with female abusers- like they’re in an abusive relationship with an offender, or they’ve recently changed their gender. It’s one of the two. I’d always have checked.

I also think BBC seems to bend over backwards not to cause offence that it ends up writing stories that are misleading and don’t tell full story.

If you're right about this I'd say that the journalist is equally to blame. Absolutely no background work, didn't bother checking another source. It's not journalism, it's lazy plagiarism. If that journalist is unaware of the spate of "women sex offenders" they really aren't doing their job. So yes GMP are in the wrong but that piss poor journalist should not get a free pass.

Floisme · 10/12/2023 08:31

Oh come on, surely if you're a journalist being curious is your fucking job? How did they not see the press release and think, 'female abuser - that's highly unusual, I wonder what happened'?

Whilst DI Marsden, of GMP’s Online Child Abuse Investigation Team, said: "Firstly, our thoughts remain with the victim and their family having gone through such a terrible ordeal. Following a tenacious and lengthy investigation of 1,865 messages, our dedicated team was able to prove that the female suspect's chats were not simply a case of role play or fantasy - she had knowledge that the male had an interest in sexually abusing a young [child] on the direction of her.

You'd have thought that a Detective Inspector would know the difference between a male and a female eh? Especially one working in the field of online child abuse?

guinnessguzzler · 10/12/2023 08:36

Yep, that's the standard of police work now; such thorough investigations they can't even tell if it's a man or a woman. Genuinely embarrassing.

And what will happen, @happydappy2, if the BBC and other media organisations refuse to go along with this rubbish and start telling the truth?

Nothing will happen to them.

They are choosing to do this. Choosing to lie.

And they wonder why we have no faith in them.

BonfireLady · 10/12/2023 08:59

On a positive note, this one seems to be gaining a similar traction to the Isla Bryson case in the public discourse.
It's not been that long since the Andrew/Amy George case was also in mainstream news.
It feels like we could be on the cusp of a critical mass of people realising the meaning behind "it never happens".

Perhaps the BBC, ITV, Guardian and others will break rank from their current stance on gender identity belief being positioned as a universal truth and go in for the "scoop". It won't be long until the public gets curious and more people stumble upon Reduxx or other similar journalism, which shows that this kind of crime (being perpetrated by a man who identifies as a woman) isn't isolated. Mainstream media will need to make a choice between the current obfuscation and jumping in with two feet to open it all up. The longer they leave it, the more the public's distrust in them will build.

Igmum · 10/12/2023 09:07

Oh come on BBC and GMP. These are not our crimes.

The ‘predatory female’ bit is the part that jars most for me. It’s actually mis-leading.

why not just say ‘predator’ ?

I don’t know why statisticians can’t actually have a category for people’s birth sex in addition to their current one.

Always female- FF / men - MM / women ( born male) FM etc…

i read an article a few years on BBC that women sex offenders had quadrupled in last year and article claimed it wasn’t due to transgender offenders. Turns out that was utter bullshit and the ENTIRE increase was from transgender females.

  1. Actual predatory females are so vanishingly rare it's more of a news story
  2. Some people are keen to try to suggest that 'women are predatory too', for their own reasons
ArthurbellaScott · 10/12/2023 09:33

His OnlyFans profile confirms he still has his penis.

'I Am 28 Years Pre-Op TS Webcam Model & Pro Dom in east Manchester'

I'll not link it, but it's not hard to find.

Hopefully this means he is going to a male jail.

His penis may be the only thing that would have precluded him being sent to a women's prison, though.

NotTerfNorCis · 10/12/2023 09:34

TRAs are trying to bat this away by accusing feminists of politicising a horrific crime.

As though they didn't do the same with the murder of Brianna Ghey.

ArthurbellaScott · 10/12/2023 09:36

'accusing feminists of politicising a horrific crime'

Oh, aye, it's feminists' fault. Of course it is.

Never mind the paedophiles, think of the nasty feminists making a fuss.

ArthurbellaScott · 10/12/2023 09:41

'“This is a significant result for what is a very vulnerable and innocent 4-year-old child who was subjected to multiple counts of abuse, but also for all other children in the community who could have been subject to similar offending by a predatory female who was inciting others to commit acts of sexual harm against the most vulnerable in society.
“I hope the sentence sends a strong message to the public that we will pursue all available lines of enquiry to ensure we can bring justice to victims of serious sexual assaults.”'

(Bolding mine)

What is the strong message being sent here, DI Marsden, of GMP’s Online Child Abuse Investigation Team?

That a 'predatory female' is guilty of a man's crime? Shame on you. You are putting children at risk with this bullshit lie.

I hope the child involved has lots of support and loving care.

Does the DI's message suggest that this 'predatory female' was inciting more than one person to commit acts?

https://salford.media/news/regional-news/gmps-sex-offender-and-suspect-management-teams-report-progress-since-inspection-r394/

'His Majesty's Inspectorate of Constabulary assessed GMP's effectiveness, efficiency, and legitimacy in July 2023. The report published earlier today (Friday 1 December 2023) graded the force's management of offenders and suspects as requiring improvement, highlighting three specific areas of concern.
Offender and suspect management is led by the force's Public Protection Division, which is made up of specialist units and teams including the Sex Offender Management Unit (SOMU) and Online Child Abuse Investigation Team (OCAIT). It is invaluably supported by district-based officers and partners.
To address the first area for improvement, GMP launched a dedicated operation to reduce backlogs and introduced additional governance and peer support to monitor and cutback overdue visits and administration. Since the beginning of the year, SOMU has reduced overdue visits and specialist risk assessments by 81% and 83% respectively. Since the inspection three months ago, the figures have reduced by a further 14% and 62%. This comes alongside an increasing number of sex offenders requiring management due to an increased conviction rate.'

GMP'S SEX OFFENDER AND SUSPECT MANAGEMENT TEAMS REPORT PROGRESS SINCE INSPECTION

'During our inspection, we reviewed offender management records. We found that the force needed to provide clearer guidance to staff on the benefits of regularly checking the Police National Database. This will help them to understand all intelligence and risks and effectively update risk management plans'

Do you think that accurately recording the sex of offenders might help with this, GMP?

'the force needs to carry out further intelligence assessments and checks to reassess levels of risk'

No shit.

So the GMP section that deals with sex offenders has been recently identified as 'requires improvement'.

Baldieheid · 10/12/2023 09:53

I'm beginning to think the police force are an actual danger to women and children.

I would consider my location very carefully before I stopped my car for the police now. Garage forecourt- probably okay. They've got cameras. Dark street - no fucking way.

PronounssheRa · 10/12/2023 10:05

I'm beginning to think the police force are an actual danger to women and children.

Recent history is littered with cases that show this to be true, at least with some officers and forces.

In just this one case we have GMP running interference for someone found guilty of one of societies most awful crimes, the sexual abuse of a child.

Baldieheid · 10/12/2023 11:23

It's rather sobering to realise just how fucking alone women and children are.

No recourse should the worst happen. No interest in preventing the worst happening. No listening to our concerns. No believing us when we tell them what we see coming if things don't change.
No permitting decent men to fight alongside us, these men must be punished.

Please complain to the BBC.

The complaints page is here
https://www.bbc.co.uk/contact/complaints

I used the "Factual error" category. The convicted criminal is not a woman, so the story is factually wrong.

Done, have they confirmed if this has been recorded as a female or male crime? BBC..what a load of old sexist crap the whole organisation are.

frazzled1 · 10/12/2023 11:31

Done.

Imagine if the BBC had correctly titled the article 'Predatory' trans woman who incited man to abuse child, 4, jailed'.... Hmm

Always like to end complaints to the Beeb with: 14th October 2021, BBC Question Time, Professor Robert Winston (FMedSci, FRSA, FRCP, FRCOG, FREng) said "I will say this categorically, you cannot change your sex".

NotBadConsidering · 10/12/2023 11:40

it's extremely likely the journalist just lifted it from the Press Release from GMP.

So not a journalist then. Someone who can copy and paste into an html template. Something primary school children can do these days.

I truly lament the loss of definition and the flattening of the hierarchy of this modern age. Too many people can acquire a job title when they’re not remotely up to the task of what it historically requires, or it has been devalued to be a nothing term.

To me, the term “journalist” is a nothing term. It means someone who can report on tweets and embed them into their articles. The term “proper journalist” is now required to indicate someone who actually does the job properly. I’m fed up with having to add adjectives to nouns to make it clear what I am talking about.

Proper journalist
Actual doctor
Real woman
Biological female

It's so depressing.

WinterParakeets · 10/12/2023 11:45

I just made my first ever complaint to the BBC.
