it's extremely likely the journalist just lifted it from the Press Release from GMP.

So not a journalist then. Someone who can copy and paste into an html template. Something primary school children can do these days.

I truly lament the loss of definition and the flattening of the hierarchy of this modern age. Too many people can acquire a job title when they’re not remotely up to the task of what it historically requires, or it has been devalued to be a nothing term.

To me, the term “journalist” is a nothing term. It means someone who can report on tweets and embed them into their articles. The term “proper journalist” is now required to indicate someone who actually does the job properly. I’m fed up with having to add adjectives to nouns to make it clear what I am talking about.

Proper journalist
Actual doctor
Real woman
Biological female

It's so depressing.

I remember when journalism was an extremely competitive profession - hungry reporters trying to get to the truth of the matter. A press release was treated as a start point, a launchpad to a story. The journalist used the information from it but asked further questions to flesh it out and get all the angles. They would then write the story in their own words.

This copy and paste approach is just so depressing.

Mollyollydolly · 10/12/2023 11:54

I don't disagree with any of the comments about proper journalists compared to people just regurgitating press releases. They are a world apart, fact is that's what a lot of online journalists do in the regions, and a lot of them tend to be young with very little life experience. It's a sausage factory pumping out content .. and yes it is depressing, but it's cheap. Proper investigative journalism is very expensive, we live in a dumbed down age.

Girlontherailreplacementbusservice · 10/12/2023 12:16

I'm not a journalist but my first thought on hearing a woman has committed a sex crime is 'hmmm I wonder if that is an actual woman or a man with the laydee feelz?' Surely there are journalists out there that have the same thought why aren't they barging the just out of uni, cut and paste a press release, be kinders out of the way to get to the story?

Baldieheid · 10/12/2023 12:22

Presumably, because telling the truth has come with career ending consequences that not many people can survive.
JKR can say what she likes, her success and subsequent wealth insulate her from the economic punishment. So they went after her home (photographs of tras outside, address supplied), and her kids. She has justifiably expressed concern for their safety. It's simple terrorism.

DreamItDoIt · 10/12/2023 12:24

I too am interested in which jail he's going to. Perhaps is journalist could pick this up, it needs exposure either way - woman's jail and there needs to be complaints and lots of noise to get him moved. Men's jail, needs reporting so people engage their brains and wonder why a 'woman' is going to a man's jail.

Datun · 10/12/2023 12:45

edit : didn’t mean to quote you apologies!

Placemarking also.

This has boiled my blood.

The police referring to a ‘predatory female’ is so unbelievably problematic.

Even if you’re going to go with the whole calling biological men with trans identities ‘women’, they are very clearly not female.

It’s just ridiculous. Plain language matters. Accurately describing events and individuals matters.

Edited

I see the headline and my first thought is 'it'll be a bloke'.

I see the headline and my first thought is 'it'll be a bloke'.

At some point, pretty much everyone will be doing the same thing.

just about every time it turns out that yes, the ‘woman’ is male.

At what point are the media and public institutions going to stop lying to the public with this nonsense?

PronounssheRa · 09/12/2023 17:53

GMP have been community noted on twitter

https://twitter.com/gmpolice/status/1733080446672457775

How can any of us trust the police when they lie?

There's no community note on there now, and replies have been switched off (and possibly deleted).

DarkDayforMN · 10/12/2023 16:15

There's no community note on there now, and replies have been switched off (and possibly deleted).

So staff at "X" have removed the community note. That's ridiculous but it's always been apparent there are quite a lot of TRAs remaining there.

(The replies to that Tweet were switched off from the start, indicating that Greater Manchester Police knew they were lying and didn't want to be corrected.)

ArthurbellaScott · 10/12/2023 16:16

The picture/tweet has had 3m views. I think the cat's out the bag, lads.

CrankyMerkin · 10/12/2023 17:17

Interesting that the police refer to the victim and other potential victims as "the most vulnerable in society" I'm almost surprised that they didn't use that term for the trans child abuser.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 10/12/2023 17:48

I had exactly the same thought!

IcakethereforeIam · 10/12/2023 18:07

They probably would have done, if it hadn't meant first admitting he's trans.

Cheewawa · 10/12/2023 19:06

Complained to BBC

Predatory woman who incited man to abuse child, 4 jailed

IcakethereforeIam · 10/12/2023 18:07

Hm. They've actually showed admirable restraint by not mentioning how marginalised and vulnerable he is, now you put it like that.

EtiennePalmiere · 10/12/2023 19:13

For those submitting complaints, do you give your full details ? Address, phone, full name it seems a lot

IcakethereforeIam · 10/12/2023 19:17

I gave my name and email but made up a phone number, didn't give my house number and gave the town hall address as road name and post code.

Catiette · 10/12/2023 19:20

Yes. I skip the optional sections, but give them the rest. It doesn't feel comfortable, and that's a sign of how bad things have become. I felt genuinely worried about "outing myself" as - shock, horror! - someone who believes (drum roll...) that sex is real to GMP... But it's because of that that I did out myself, if that makes sense. If we've reached a point where I feel concerned by sharing my name & personal details with the police in case of biased retaliation at some indefinite point in the future should I be caught, oh, photographing the wrong kind of sticker, say - then, hell, it's REALLY important to do...

Edited to say... took me a looong time even to work up the courage to post here, though, so really understand the unease & am very cautious with what I share & with whom...

Catiette · 10/12/2023 19:22

I'm so angry about it all. Have just had a delicious rant to family members, getting them up to speed. Totally unaware, of course - they rely on the BBC and Guardian... 😡

Same here, and it's a vague, no name email. Call me paranoid but I want to be able to shut down any email i use to contact anyone about this crap.

Address is the local town train station, phone number i gave is for Ofcom.
