Continuation of Thread 6.

There is so much excellent information and so many active discussions on FWR that I wondered if it would be useful to have a thread to sort of "cross-fertilise" between them - airing little thoughts or vignettes that wouldn't themselves merit their own thread, to highlight other posts/threads of particular interest or to point to notable developments on fast-moving threads so that casual observers know where to look.

(For example, "the X thread has meandered onto a fascinating discussion of Y" or "Poster P's amazing analysis on thread Z might have relevance to the scenario in thread W" or "Has anybody noticed this recurring theme that keeps coming up??" or even "Random bloke asked me to smile while I was choosing onions in the supermarket, grr"- that sort of thing).

When I saw the thread title for Endometriosis Step, I knew I wouldn't be getting any bingo points for guessing it was a man. It's really disheartening, isn't it?

MouseMinge · 13/11/2023 19:29

I know they're everywhere but the endometriosis bloke is just trolling us in the most cruel and nasty way. I don't have endometriosis, thankfully, but I know enough people who've suffered to know it's absolute hell. Sure, have a bloke head it but a bloke who is a bloke and a doctor/consultant. A bloke in a dress who is so obviously a total ah, gee, pee. Just no. Fuck off. Fuck right off you disgusting arseholes.

MavisMcMinty · 13/11/2023 20:53

It’s disgusting. Him and every other male or transwoman head/boss/tzar appointed to positions that could surely all be covered under single-sex exemptions under employment law. Yes I agree a male gynaecologist/specialist would be OK, but they could easily specify clinical experience in the advert.

Assuming there was an advert at all, of course. Wasn’t the male periods tzar appointed ‘cos he was shagging someone with the power to hand him the job?

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 13/11/2023 21:24

I'm not sure that was ever confirmed for the period tsar, but there were certainly aspects of the recruitment that appeared to fall some way below best practice.

Vegemiteandhoneyontoast · 14/11/2023 18:15

This is funny. Terf cable clip clamps!

TERF is a registered trademark? Should we be reporting tras to Trading Standards, because the police are feck all use?

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 14/11/2023 19:58

Worth a go.

IcakethereforeIam · 15/11/2023 01:02

I just don't believe this, actually I do believe it but this is particularly unbelievably believable

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/world-news/2023/11/14/italy-obese-murderer-released-jail-cant-give-special-diet/

Stabbed his girlfriend to death was sentenced to thirty years and serves six before being released to house arrest. He literally dug his way out of prison with a knife and fork! That poor girl's family, this is disgraceful.

Obese murderer freed from jail as it can’t provide him with special diet

Since being imprisoned in 2019 for stabbing his girlfriend to death, Dimitri Fricano’s weight has soared from 120kg to 200kg

Hold on, ladies! A man (Kenny Farquharson, The Times Scotland) has arrived to tell us how to solve all this! We should just be kind!

Clearly a profound thinker, that one.

He's essentially done the real life version of this meme

How the trans row will end in compromise - Mumsnet www.mumsnet.com/talk/womens_rights/4942902-how-the-trans-row-will-end-in-compromise

Gonners · 15/11/2023 09:42

Ha! I bet he was pleased with what he thought were his IMMENSE literary skillz there. Eat your heart out Holden Caulfield.

IcakethereforeIam · 15/11/2023 11:52

This article is a little odd, in the context, or rather lack of context

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/travel/travel-truths/harry-potter-london-warner-bros-tourism-j-k-rowling/

I can only think the writer, having been sorted into Slytherin, decided to lean into it. The article seems to have missed its spot. There's no current news that it might be responding to, that I'm aware of. The wheels haven't come off the HP franchise so far and isn't Netflix rebooting it? That should bring a new tranche of fans. Then there's the Robert Galbraith stuff which isn't mentioned at all. I think the Telegraph had nothing better to fill a space or this was published as a favour to someone. The headline is a bit click baity, although mentioned, that isn't the main thrust of the hatchet job article.

Why JK Rowling’s trans views will harm Harry Potter tourism

The Harry Potter Studio Tour has been named the world’s most overpriced attraction – but Gen Z will be more put off by the writer’s politics

Britinme · 15/11/2023 13:16

I went there a couple of weeks ago with my 11 year old granddaughter. It was booked for weeks ahead and packed out. Yes it was expensive but no more so than other major commercial attractions in and near London. Bought theatre tickets lately? There was a lot of really interesting stuff about movie making. I think this writer is deluded.

MmePoppySeedDefage · 15/11/2023 13:31

Maybe she should move on from something written for children? We manage without too much reference to the Chalet School and Malory Towers, don't we?

MouseMinge · 15/11/2023 20:55

Well that was a tedious read. Hello, I'm a millennium, but also nearly Gen Z. I read Harry Potter then I grew up. TERFs! Expensive! Might not last. Blah. The end. Did you notice I had nothing of any interest whatsoever to say? Ha! I bet you didn't, I'm SO clever.

Bore on, you damn fule!

MouseMinge · 15/11/2023 20:57

Woman's Hour was pretty good today. Emma Barton did not f around with Steph and Jo from the Endo charity. What they were coming out with was mindboggling. The need to get away from the gynaecological because that's offputting?! Anyway, I was proud of EB today and Steph is definitely an example of Let Them Speak and More Will Peak.

That pretty much sums it up. You should be an editor 😊

Yesterday I was having a big tidy up as OH's mum is arriving shortly. Got the newish vacuum out and noticed the cylinder needed emptying <cool stare at OH> and then had to open up the other end as a big clump of fluff was stuck inside. You have to twist the top part to unlock it, but I simply couldn't do it as my hands are too small to get a proper grip on the cylinder. I tried holding it under my arm, between my feet, between my knees, everything, but couldn't undo the wretched thing. In the end I asked OH to help and he undid it straight away and then gave me a questioning look before realising his large manly hands are what the designer must have had in mind. This world really is made for men, isn't it. I'm either shrinking or realising just how male-centric the nearly everything is. This shit really winds me up.

It's similar to this design: https://spares.vax.co.uk/power-5-total-home-cylinder-vacuum-cleaner

Vax Power 5 Total Home Cylinder Vacuum Cleaner

The Vax Power 5 Total Home Cylinder Vacuum Cleaner C87-P5-T is a lightweight and compact cylinder with powerful suction and variable power, so you can clean a wide range of surfaces around your home. The Power 5 is extremely easy to lift and manoeuvre...

Clabony · 16/11/2023 17:25

I need a new vac so will avoid that one as I have teeny tiny hands. I'm a proper real biological laydee.

Clabony · 16/11/2023 17:27

I just realised my name change, used for elsewhere. I've not posted on this thread before I now realise. Defo not a tra, promise!

duc748 · 16/11/2023 17:44

Surely more vacs are bought by women than men. Aren't the manufacturers missing a trick there? An ad campaign based on 'easy to use for women with smaller hands' would surely be a hit?

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 16/11/2023 17:47

I have the Vax 6 - v similar design. And yes, hard to grip unless you have large hands.

Vegemiteandhoneyontoast · 16/11/2023 17:56

I have teeny tiny hands too. Size 7, I think. Whatever, they're far too small to deal with the vacuum cylinder and that vexes me very greatly.
