Women's rights general conversations - Thread 7

Continuation of Thread 6.

There is so much excellent information and so many active discussions on FWR that I wondered if it would be useful to have a thread to sort of "cross-fertilise" between them - airing little thoughts or vignettes that wouldn't themselves merit their own thread, to highlight other posts/threads of particular interest or to point to notable developments on fast-moving threads so that casual observers know where to look.

(For example, "the X thread has meandered onto a fascinating discussion of Y" or "Poster P's amazing analysis on thread Z might have relevance to the scenario in thread W" or "Has anybody noticed this recurring theme that keeps coming up??" or even "Random bloke asked me to smile while I was choosing onions in the supermarket, grr"- that sort of thing).

I don't know what to say, Kuc. Keep your phone on record and politely point out when the indoctrinator is talking rubbish?

I appreciate that this will turn 6 hours into about 60 hours, of course....

MavisMcMinty · 09/11/2023 11:36

While most of me is glad I’m retired and don’t have to put up with any of this bollocks at work, a little bit of me LONGS to attend one of these EDI courses to play the naif.

If anyone in Devon has to attend one, and no-one there knows who you are, I’d be very happy to go in your place while you take a sneaky paid day off.

duc748 · 09/11/2023 11:50

I am also sooo glad to be retired and free from this bollocks. But it's really no joke, and the very idea that for many people. 'they have to be so careful what they say' in the work-place is appalling.

Britinme · 09/11/2023 11:57

Yes indeed. However confident you feel about your views, having to air and defend them in public is stressful, especially when it might impact your relationship with colleagues and supervisors.

MouseMinge · 09/11/2023 14:05

It's horrible that people have to be careful about voicing reality in the workplace. Or online really, given that there are people doing the work of the Gestapo, KGB or the Stasi and happily reporting "wrong" thoughts. I like that someone pointed out that the I in the alphabet soup shouldn't be there, that stonewall know it shouldn't be there and that the correct terminology is DSD.

Further to the pronouns thing was this post on the KJK thread:

Page 17 | KJK | Mumsnet

In particular this:

Let's focus on this thread: the effects of knowingly mis-sexing people, as a courtesy to that individual. This is a practice I used to participate in myself, but which I stopped when I discovered that in prisons, female prisoners are being disciplined for not using 'preferred' pronouns. Every single one of us who chose to use 'preferred pronouns' contributed to the normalisation of it as an expectation; rather than a politeness that we may choose to extend, trans-identifying people are now seen as entitled to the pronouns they specify. That led to it being seen as reasonable to punish incarcerated women, because now they are deemed to have infringed the rights of male prisoners, who shouldn't even be placed in the female estate.

Why the fuck has MUMSNET cancelled her

'Normalisation' is a key feature, isn't ? Normalisation of pronoun use. Normalisation of DQST. Normalisation of replacing the word 'sex' with 'gender'.

MavisMcMinty · 09/11/2023 16:40

It was working well until those pesky terfs came along.

MavisMcMinty · 09/11/2023 16:43

…Still IS working well, given how many people are oblivious to the real harms being done to women and girls. And when it’s women defending men and happily relinquishing OTHER women’s rights it feels even worse.

IcakethereforeIam · 09/11/2023 17:53

Indulge me, please. I was reading this while sipping tea, 'twas funny. Feck all to do with FWR though

I seldom post on FB, but I did see a thread today about Caster S, and I said, "Caster Semenya is a biological male. This is the simple fact of it." Scores on the doors so far:
like, 49
love, 1
hate, 2

Came across this story from two years ago, typical of New Zealand, transbird? Grin

Be fair. At least the bat can fly. Unlike the Kiwi.

crabbyoldbat · 10/11/2023 09:04

Kucinghitam - the only disadvantage of remote attendance is that whoever 'owns' the meeting can mute you, or even chuck you out, very easily if they don't like what you're saying.

Vegemiteandhoneyontoast · 10/11/2023 09:15

Being muted could be a blessing in disguise.

Kucinghitam · 10/11/2023 11:52

My plan is to say nothing, which I hope will work much better online than in-person!

“Everything starts with calling them women. Because if they are women, then of course they should be included in women’s spaces. But at the same time, they are being treated differently from real women. When they say they don’t feel safe in men’s spaces everybody says, ‘Poor thing, why don’t you go to women’s spaces.’ But when we say, ‘We don’t feel comfortable with him’ we are called hateful. So we are treated different even though we both supposedly are women,” Daniel added.”

This is one of the most glaring TRA inconsistencies, isn’t it? Inside out, backwards and upside down.

duc748 · 12/11/2023 21:38

Jesus wept. But the risks that people are taking to stand up to these fuckers, wow.

Waitwhat23 · 12/11/2023 21:56

Anyone else seen that the new CEO of Endometriosis South Coast is male. A male who identifies as a she/her.

An endometriosis support organisation.

An endometriosis support organisation.

And they had to make a clarification as their initial Twitter post announcing the appointment had a quote which was clearly meant to be attributed to that individual before there was an incredulous response -

duc748 · 12/11/2023 22:01

They are just taking the piss now.

dunBle · 13/11/2023 04:23

Interesting that they've "they"'d Steph in that tweet, when Steph's twitter bio has She/her pronouns. I wonder when the twitter minion will be sent off for re-education.
