Continuation of Thread 6.

There is so much excellent information and so many active discussions on FWR that I wondered if it would be useful to have a thread to sort of "cross-fertilise" between them - airing little thoughts or vignettes that wouldn't themselves merit their own thread, to highlight other posts/threads of particular interest or to point to notable developments on fast-moving threads so that casual observers know where to look.

(For example, "the X thread has meandered onto a fascinating discussion of Y" or "Poster P's amazing analysis on thread Z might have relevance to the scenario in thread W" or "Has anybody noticed this recurring theme that keeps coming up??" or even "Random bloke asked me to smile while I was choosing onions in the supermarket, grr"- that sort of thing).

I’ve just read this about Butterfly which I’d forgotten about.

Butterfly isn’t just a textbook reminder of how insidiously agendas can be pushed by filmmakers but also seemed to have changed its meaning in the years since. Steadman’s meanly written grandmother – another sceptic about Maxine’s plight – reminds us of the ‘Be Kind’ brigade’s intolerance for differing views. Instead of a Neanderthal clinging to the past, father Stephen now seems to symbolise the battered voice of reason and caution, neutered into paralysis by the ‘feelings not facts’ world around him.

Bloody hell, I had absolutely no idea that the Gender Recognition Act kicked off in 2004 - 20 years ago. I was out of the country from 1999 until 2013, and had just assumed it was much more recent.

It’s also worth noting that the so called spousal veto came about because the Blair government, represented by one David Lammy, opposed gay marriage:

From someone who appears to genuinely not know (but how come, Dawn French?!) those are sensible and open minded comments.

@Boiledbeetle ooh hang on, I've got some spare vacuum pack bags! Six of them, it's a start but we'll be needing more.

That should cover a day, maybe? I fear we will need a decent wholesaler of vacuum bags!

Would vacuum packing work? They're so full of gas and hot air.
