Women's rights general conversations - Thread 7

Continuation of Thread 6.

There is so much excellent information and so many active discussions on FWR that I wondered if it would be useful to have a thread to sort of "cross-fertilise" between them - airing little thoughts or vignettes that wouldn't themselves merit their own thread, to highlight other posts/threads of particular interest or to point to notable developments on fast-moving threads so that casual observers know where to look.

(For example, "the X thread has meandered onto a fascinating discussion of Y" or "Poster P's amazing analysis on thread Z might have relevance to the scenario in thread W" or "Has anybody noticed this recurring theme that keeps coming up??" or even "Random bloke asked me to smile while I was choosing onions in the supermarket, grr"- that sort of thing).

You're also going to love the mechanic.

Just read this in the Telegraph

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/politics/2024/01/20/crackdown-on-activists-in-the-civil-service/

https://archive.ph/PhSyl

It seems to have struck a nerve with their readers, over 2000 comments (none of which I can read 😢). I think a corrective is necessary but I'm a bit sad that it is necessary. I suspect the Rwanda debacle may be the main driver but not the only one.

Crackdown on ‘activists’ in the Civil Service

Efficiency drive will review 'diversity networks' and look for ways to give back to public in form of tax cuts

A quick skim down the comments seems to show universal agreement with the thrust of the column (oo-er missus...)

MouseMinge · 22/01/2024 21:20

That film sounds like a good watch so I shall watch it, but not today.

I would love a film that was literally just women saying fuck this and going off to live as witches in a bog. I would watch that. If I was a film maker I would make it.

Jo Phoenix has won on virtually all points - and the relevant thread is posting judgement highlights.

The judge's comments were excoriating, no punches pulled.

In AIBU.

Usual names calling for it to be moved to FWR and that the thread should be deleted and we are all transphobic terfs if you'd care to leave a comment or two!

I’m confused by the title edit

Feels strange to not be able to use basic biologically correct language

Boiledbeetle · 23/01/2024 19:51

Seems like the monitors are frantic today.

They're pissed about Jo Phoenix winning and the ERCC are doing... Not great in the current tribunal so us women have to pay!

Boiledbeetle · 25/01/2024 16:08

I've got to say though it's magnificently high barrier around her house! Imagine needing a cherry picker to trim the hedge!

CriticalCondition · 25/01/2024 16:11

A new series called Wokewashimg is just starting on R4 now. The first episode is focussing on LBTQA+. I had hopes but the first interviewee is Peter Tatchell...

Clabony · 25/01/2024 16:29

Impressive foliage. 😀

Edited to add: JKR not PT.

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 25/01/2024 20:51

Women pushed out of medal positions by men in women's sport - a list: https://www.shewon.org/

Gonners · 25/01/2024 21:04

That's really eye-opening, bint. If you sort the list by year, pretty much everything pre-2008 took place in Canada, usually British Columbia.

duc748 · 26/01/2024 00:09

Yeah, it's not one or two, is it?
