Green Party Women under attack

Can anyone help explain what's happening with Green Party Women and the Green Women's Declaration? I've looked for a thread on here but can't find anything. Apologies if I've managed to miss it.

I'm a long-standing member of the Green Party, though not v active. There have been a lot of emails arriving in the last couple of days from people on both sides and it sounds as though things are blowing up.

I haven't been able to keep up-to-date with what's happening but get the gist of it - attempted (illegal?) booting out and silencing of GC people, that doesn't appear to have worked and has backfired fairly spectacularly.

I'd really like to understand the background and what ordinary members can do to support the GC women in the current situation.

There's a Zoom mtg for members tomorrow but bang in the middle of kids bedtime so I can't make it unfortunately :(

Can anyone throw any light on this and maybe point in the right direction for more info? Many thanks!

I haven't any more background but I plan to attend the meeting if you want me to report back?

If you want ways to support probably best to email Green Feminists.

Greens seem to spend more time on this issue than on the environment! I used to vote for them in the EU elections, I can't bring myself to bother now.

There are bits and pieces on this thread

Finally! A detailed reference document to define Queerphobia! www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/4922111-finally-a-detailed-reference-document-to-define-queerphobia

Stephannee · 25/10/2023 23:56

The Green Party itself is very supportive of LGBT people and rights, but GPW are not unfortunately.

I have told the Green Party as long as GPW are part of them they would not get my vote.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 26/10/2023 00:02

You told the Green Party that as long as they had a women's group you wouldn't vote for them? That's nice.

Two good articles from the last month or so

You didn't read my post did you?

Don’t you recognise “inclusivity”when you see it Eresh? Tut, you need some more brainwashing.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 26/10/2023 00:37

From what I can deduce Green Party Women is just the women's group for the Green Party, no?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 26/10/2023 00:38

It seems there are both GC and non GC members, according to the threads and articles linked.

HiddenLegoOuch · 26/10/2023 00:39

@Ereshkigalangcleg - I read it the same as you!
Plus, the attitude that comment conveys seems consistent with other gems the poster unveils.

Yes, but that should be the Green Party Non-men, which should be run by men who say they’re women. It’s simple really Eresh, keep up!

Ereshkigalangcleg · 26/10/2023 00:51

which should be run by men who say they’re women.

It was at one point.

By "women" you mean anti-LGBT.

It's a common tactic of GCAs, "women" is used when it would be more accurate to say either anti-trans or anti-LGBT. Almost as if homophobia and/or transphobia are being disguised as "women's rights" in the hope people who don't know what it's about will automatically support them because of the word woman.

We see you.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 26/10/2023 00:56

No, I mean women. And I believe it includes all "gender variant" people or something. As I said, not all the members are GC.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 26/10/2023 00:57

Perhaps you were overhasty in wanting it destroyed?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 26/10/2023 00:57

And we sure see you.

Stephannee · 26/10/2023 00:59

Ereshkigalangcleg · 26/10/2023 00:56

No, I mean women. And I believe it includes all "gender variant" people or something. As I said, not all the members are GC.

Their official stance is anti-LGBT rights and also seems to be their top priority, which would suggest it is basically just another "LGB Alliance" or gender critical group posing as a woman group.

Gender critical groups really should IMO have the words gender critical in their name so everyone knows what they are about.

Stephannee · 26/10/2023 01:00

And no, I don't wish any group to be "destroyed" as you put it. I just think names of groups/charities shouldn't be misleading anyone as to what their main purpose is about.

maltravers · 26/10/2023 01:10

You’re not allowed to talk about Women’s rights - off to the gulag!

Ereshkigalangcleg · 26/10/2023 01:15

Their official stance is anti-LGBT rights and also seems to be their top priority, which would suggest it is basically just another "LGB Alliance" or gender critical group posing as a woman group.

That's not the case, as I have said several times now there are both GC and non GC members in the group. You are simply poorly informed and wrong.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 26/10/2023 01:17

I think you are confusing Green Party Women with the Green Party Women's Declaration which is about women's sex based rights.
