Green Party Women under attack

Can anyone help explain what's happening with Green Party Women and the Green Women's Declaration? I've looked for a thread on here but can't find anything. Apologies if I've managed to miss it.

I'm a long-standing member of the Green Party, though not v active. There have been a lot of emails arriving in the last couple of days from people on both sides and it sounds as though things are blowing up.

I haven't been able to keep up-to-date with what's happening but get the gist of it - attempted (illegal?) booting out and silencing of GC people, that doesn't appear to have worked and has backfired fairly spectacularly.

I'd really like to understand the background and what ordinary members can do to support the GC women in the current situation.

There's a Zoom mtg for members tomorrow but bang in the middle of kids bedtime so I can't make it unfortunately :(

Can anyone throw any light on this and maybe point in the right direction for more info? Many thanks!

No. It seems that the cats are out of the bag.

Worldgonecrazy · 27/10/2023 17:48

Coincidentally I was just canvassed by a local Green Party local council hopeful. She was researching matters of concern for local people. I wish I had read this thread beforehand. She was all for inclusivity at the expense of women’s rights.

@ArtArthurbellaScott Apologies for the removal of your post.

It's because you had quoted me. I had asked for my post to be removed as I had shared something which I have since been asked to not make public just yet.

Yesterday, the GC Secretary of GPW emailed any officer with an email address on the Green Party website to invite them to the Declaration meeting.

Those people then swiftly received an email from notorious TRA Joe Hudson-Small, warning them that they had the right to attend but that it would be "at their own risk."

He apparently had "the safety of our members to consider"

Pompous twerp!
Joe HS obviously. Thanks for keeping us up to date Cariadlet. I cancelled my membership to the Greens a few months back because I couldn’t bear to subsidise their authoritarian politics any longer. If only they could spend this energy on the environment.

cariadlet · 27/10/2023 19:00

@maltravers Please do reconsider rejoining. We desperately need sensible women to support those who are speaking out.

I pay the standard rate, ignore the begging emails and if I can afford extra from time to time, it goes to my local party or to the GC Greens crowdfunders.

It's possible to tick the box for reduced membership and give very little money to the authoritarians who are currently in charge

maltravers · 27/10/2023 19:47

I’ve subscribed to the GPW declaration thingy, I’ll have a think about it. The combination of lordly superiority, utter idiocy and willingness to shaft women for gold stars is just so annoying though!

WorriedMutha · 27/10/2023 20:28

Aren't the Greens also in financial peril if the pipeline GC tribunal cases go against them. This was reported by the BBC recently and I think it came from a caveat by the party's auditors. That's why subs increased 50%. It's just astonishing that a party which is virtually a single issue party is spending its funds fighting with its own (presumably like minded) members over the ridiculous issue of gender.
Students of politics will in future be writing dissertations and thesis on this insane and discreditable period in our history.

No problem.

Quite a few friends now saying they will can no longer support the Green Party. One friend even used to leaflet for them, she feels they’ve totally lost their way. Fancy getting diverted from the world melting by a few ladeez who like the feel of their mums’ nylon tights against their scrotums.

In the latest move by TRAs in the Green Party, SOC (Standing Orders Committee) this afternoon voted to disaffiliate Green Party Women as an official Special Interest Group.

If you're on Twitter, please tweet/retweet with the hashtag #GreenPartyWomenUnderAttack

Im furious

ArthurbellaScott · 11/11/2023 20:01

FFS. Outrageous!

ArthurbellaScott · 11/11/2023 20:01

'Green Party Standing Orders Committee has ruled to disaffiliate Green Party Women as a special interest group - silencing representation for approx 25k female members in the party. Causing detriment to members on the basis of sex is ACT OF UNLAWFUL DISCRIMINATION'

Ereshkigalangcleg · 11/11/2023 20:12

So they won't have any women's group at all in the Green Party?

SidewaysOtter · 11/11/2023 20:20

Are we surprised though?

ArthurbellaScott · 11/11/2023 22:13

Ereshkigalangcleg · 11/11/2023 20:12

So they won't have any women's group at all in the Green Party?

Let's face it, they consider the use of the word 'women' beyond the pale.

SinnerBoy · 11/11/2023 22:44

Only when it's used by and for women, I think, not visitors to Málaga.

cariadlet · 04/12/2023 22:11

Did anyone else see tonight's Green Women's Declaration zoom?

It was called The Process is the Punishment. Dawn Furness, Alison Teal, Emma Bateman and Zoe Hatch all spoke of their experiences of being suspended or expelled from the Green Party.

thirdfiddle · 05/12/2023 00:31

Yes Cariadlet. Shocking stuff put all together like that. I was very impressed indeed with the speakers - their political pedigree, their articulateness and their guts staying in the party following such blatant abuse of process.

One of the speakers exactly identified the attitude my local Green friends have, we shouldn't be talking about anything except the environment. It doesn't work though. If all you want to talk about is green issues, go and be the environmental wing of a political party that has direction on other stuff. If you want to have an electable party, you need a credible position on key policy questions across the board, and you need to not shit on women in your party.

WarriorN · 05/12/2023 07:28

Was it recorded? I totally forgot about it.

I've been really shocked at how things operate at a local level since becoming more involved.

One of the biggest issues is that there's not enough people who understand real science willing to stand for local roles so they can't be voted in. When there is, they are tending to be voted in.

If anyone fancies joining, your internal votes really do make a huge difference.

cariadlet · 05/12/2023 15:52

It was recorded.

I think that the file size is too big for the Declaration website so the plan is to upload it to YouTube and then post a link on the Declaration website.

cariadlet · 05/12/2023 15:55

I advertised last night's Declaration zoom on my local Green Party WhatsApp group and was asked to remove it by a couple of our officers.

Apparently, my posts gave a negative impression of the Party and a local party chat group wasn't the appropriate place to post.

I'm so fed up with Green Party members burying their heads in the sand and not facing up to what's going on.

ArthurbellaScott · 05/12/2023 16:08

I'm so sorry, cariadlet. I'm over being shocked by trans rights activists - I expect bad behaviour from them. It's far more upsetting and disappointing to see the 'good people' do nothing, or look away, or excuse or minimise it.

SinnerBoy · 06/12/2023 13:32

Here's a related story from America:

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-12828501/colorado-transgender-school-serena-wales-share-bed.html

An 11-year-old Colorado girl called her mother in a panic from a hotel bathroom after discovering that the girl she was expected to share a bed with on a school trip was actually a biological male.

Not a room, or a dormitory - a bed!

Jefferson County Public Schools (Jeffco) rules insist that 'under no circumstances' shall a transgender student be required to share a room with children 'whose gender identity conflicts with their own'.

So boys with identity crises are accommodated, but girls can get stuffed.

SinnerBoy · 06/12/2023 13:33

Aah!! Wrong thread....
