Butches against transpohobia

I saw a woman wearing a T shirt saying 'Butches against transphobia' today. It astounds me that some lesbians would think that way. I wonder what she would do if presented with a penis on a date?

Can I be a transwoman then? I always thought being male was the only requirement.

PorcelinaV · 24/10/2023 18:45

Having a "favourable opinion" could just mean they support their non binary female friends.

The poll on romantic interest does show an interesting result for lesbians; it's higher than you might expect for interest in trans women.

But it's only one poll and didn't use a representative sample.

I also wonder if some liberal "LGBT" women may be giving conformist answers, that they don't really subscribe to.

garlictwist · 24/10/2023 18:45

I read that as "butchers" but yes, even so, everyone has different opinions. Arguably her t shirt did not speak for all lesbians despite purporting to.

It's threads like these that make the "pro-women, not anti-trans" line look very shaky IMO.

A person wears a t-shirt saying they're against transphobia, which I'd hope we could all agree with. Especially given that "there's no transphobia on FWR" and how many posters assert they are not transphobic on other threads on here (e.g. the one running at the moment about being in the middle of the debate).

And yet somehow, that t-shirt has caused such controversy. When, if all the above were true, it shouldn't even cause the twitch of an eyebrow.

I personally couldn't give a flying fuck about the t-shirt - I support them to wear their slogans in the same way as I don't expect to get grief about wearing my suffragette tartan scarf when I'm out and about.

Catsanfan · 24/10/2023 18:42

My problem with the slogan is that I, personally, do not believe trans people exist. Gender ideology is based on stereotypes. For the record I don't hate anyone and would never be unkind to someone with gender dysphoria. And I think there is enough evidence out there that 'Terfs' do not hate 'trans' people but TRA's hate us.

You can believe that trans people are their birth sex, you can believe that they are mentally ill, or deluded etc, but they very definitely exist. They are a group of people that believe a certain thing. Would you say that Christians, or Muslims don't exist?

Would you object to a t-shirt that said "Butches against Islamophobia" even though you don't believe in Allah?

You can fundamentally disagree with someone while also being against the hatred of them.

RebelliousCow · 24/10/2023 18:27

What on earth does that even mean? To have "a favourable view"?

I have a 'favourable view' of chocolate icecream.

Doesn't mean I want to shag it.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 24/10/2023 18:50

I am posting on this thread because of several false claims.

And there we have it, the quote that everyone says never happens on FWR... 'do not believe that trans people exist' wasn't everyone going to write in the the Jo Phoenix trial to say that no GC person has ever actually said this?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 24/10/2023 18:52

As I pointed out to Dadjoke. Most lesbians don't even claim to be sexually interested in MTF. They just aren't vocal about not being, for obvious reasons.

Karwomannghia · 24/10/2023 18:52

I know a few lesbians who go out with transmen. Maybe I should let them know they should be transphobic in order to be proper lesbians.

catduckgoose · 24/10/2023 18:54

I would be baffled as to why they are caping for such a misogynistic and homophobic ideology.

wherethewaterisdarker · 24/10/2023 18:54

What? Why can’t you be against transphobia and also not want to be presented with a penis on a date? Ugh such simplistic, divisive thinking.

JaneGainsborough · 24/10/2023 17:52

Trans women are not 'males' as far as I am concerned.

They are as far as I'm concerned, and I don't think it's a niche viewpoint.

That is a very fair point, and I am a reasonable woman who is happy to debate. I do think, unfortunately, that trans ideology is quite homophobic. To quote Mr Menno, lesbians do not have penises

So....females who go out with females?

Slothtoes · 24/10/2023 18:56

Transgender idealogy is literally against lesbians though

Transmen are women who like women. So; lesbians 🤷🏻‍♀️

Are you just ignoring the points already made?

Do you really not understand the issue of the term "transphobia" in rhetoric?

heathspeedwell · 24/10/2023 19:00

As a bisexual woman I've been going to bars and clubs with gay and lesbian friends for over two decades. One thing I have noticed a lot in the last decade is that lesbian friends do NOT want to sleep with transwomen, but might be interested in non-binary women or transmen.

Similarly my gay male friends might be interested in transwomen but most wouldn't touch a transman with a barge pole.

Surely a journalist could just look at the results on Grindr and prove for once and for all that sexual attraction is about sex, not gender.

Madwife123 · 24/10/2023 19:01

As a lesbian I am same SEX attracted not same gender. It doesn’t matter to me what you identify as I will get along just fine with you but if you have a penis I have no interest in sleeping with you.

Transwomen and Transmen change their gender, you CANNOT change your biological sex it isn’t possible and lesbians are attracted to female sex.

So I would date a pre-op transman but I wouldn’t date a pre-op transwoman. The sex matters not the gender they identify as.

I know it’s now the trend for young lesbian women to ‘include’ biological males in their dating pool and refer to biological men as lesbians but literally every lesbian in my aged 30+ circle thinks the same as I do.

Most won’t say it publicly though because the attacks on lesbians are particularly high right now. We seem to be the main target for the trans rights activists. But then I guess men have been trying to sleep with lesbians since the dawn of time and this is no different.

Redebs · 24/10/2023 19:03

Men cannot be lesbians.
Ever.

Thank you for this. A lot of the point of my original post is that I can't get my head around lesbians being supportive of gender ideology. Thank you for this post.

Yes…., transmen are female, but they identify as male and many lesbians do not have an issue with this and are clearly against transphobia. According to OP this is wrong?

Only in your imagination do people get “presented with a penis”. Most people prioritise what is between people’s ears before they inspect their genitals.

Are you from the 1950s?
