Butches against transpohobia

I saw a woman wearing a T shirt saying 'Butches against transphobia' today. It astounds me that some lesbians would think that way. I wonder what she would do if presented with a penis on a date?

Lesbians aren't a hive mind you know.

JaneGainsborough · 24/10/2023 16:15

It's as the PP says. Not everyone feels the same way. I am a bi woman who knows a lot of lesbians, the majority are fine with trans women.

Flickersy · 24/10/2023 16:15

And also, what's wrong with being against transphobia?

Catsanfan · 24/10/2023 16:16

I do, absolutely, but I can't understand why any lesbian (or indeed anyone) can believe in all this gender woo

And who gets "presented with a penis on a date"?

Unless they're wapping it out on the table, in which case you've got bigger problems.

Catsanfan · 24/10/2023 16:18

There's nothing wrong with being against transphobia, I just don't believe in gender ideology

So what's wrong with a t-shirt saying "butches against transphobia"?

It wasn't "butches for gender ideology".

Not every lesbian is focussed on genitals to the extent that anti-trans ones are. I don't want to get into a big argument because these discussions tend to go nowhere, but basically people are different. I am a new poster and longish lurker here, and I can't help noticing with surprise how aggressive people are against sex positive and trans positive feminists. Most people I know IRL aren't like that at all.

Other people do though op. That's the thing 🤷🏻‍♀️

The phrase "not all lesbians are focussed on genitals" implies that you think some lesbians have sex with males?

They would be bisexual, not lesbian.

Maybe "some bisexuals identify as lesbian?" would be a better way of putting it. It's not quite as homophobic as suggesting that being an actual lesbian isn't a thing.

newhere24 · 24/10/2023 16:27

Only in your imagination do people get “presented with a penis”. Most people prioritise what is between people’s ears before they inspect their genitals.

If someone identifies as a lesbian, that is what I am going to call them. I am not going to quibble about their genital preferences. I am bi not gay, (and in fact am mostly straight) I'm not really interested in policing boundaries.

Also, this!!

Gosh that sounds really homophobic too! It's 2023. Some female humans really are only attracted to other female humans! It really shouldn't matter that it upsets some males.

You do all know that you can't shame people out of their sexuality, right? You can imply a gay person is "sex negative" or "bigotted" all you like, it won't make that person bisexual or straight?

ArabellaScott · 24/10/2023 16:34

You're saying that lesbians who don't want to have sex with men are 'focussed on genitals'. Your lesbophobia is showing.

Flickersy · 24/10/2023 16:34

"Presented with a penis" is such a strange expression to be fair. It makes it seem like some posters think that's how TW say hello. Perhaps an alternative to shaking hands.

I've only ever dated men and I don't think I've ever been "presented with a penis". I did have one ex at uni who tied a bow round it one Christmas when we were both pissed.. maybe that counts?

fedupandstuck · 24/10/2023 16:35

What a strange new world, where lesbians are defined as being attracted to male and female people, and to insist that they are only attracted to female people is to have a genital fetish.

Fwiw, the T shirt slogan is not something I'd comment on. For the old-fashioned meaning of transphobia I'd happily agree to be against it. Just not this new definition that includes redefining what a lesbian is, denying women single sex spaces and single sex groups, etc etc.

We're not talking about your boundaries. We're talking about the boundaries implicit when an actual lesbian uses the term lesbian to describe their sexuality. It is homophobic to deny these boundaries.

Good! Mind your own boundaries, then, if you have any, and leave other people to manage their own without your judgement.

You might want to tell OP that...

bombastix · 24/10/2023 16:41

Frankly I would be disappointed and would be looking for some sort of claim under the Trade Descriptions Act if it got to the underwear stage and then a cock appeared. I don't think many lesbians would be happy not bisexual women either because both will be seeking biologically female partners. The bisexual woman can find a biological man easily enough.

I was thinking of just this article! It's not transphobic to be a lesbian and want to know if someone has a penis or feel pressured to date a trans woman when you're attracted to only woman

catduckgoose · 24/10/2023 16:42

Males identifying as lesbians is as ridiculous as males identifying as women.

But that's "transphobic" these days apparently.
