I pre ordered this book ages ago, just got an email from Amazon saying my order is delayed and they'll let me know when they'll despatch it.

Had this happened to anyone else? Is the publication delayed or have the not got enough??

I got my copy a day early, from the publisher. No idea what Amazon is playing at!

MrsOrMiss · 17/10/2023 23:53

My husband often has 'sensitive' books inexplicably delayed by Amazon. Johnny The Walrus was the worst, kept on being delayed and they kept saying they could cancel it for him. He ordered from Waterstones in the end.

I'm not saying there is an agenda here, but it happens with every controversial book. I think they don't want the sales to appear on their chart.

IwantToRetire · 18/10/2023 00:02

If you check out earlier threads about the book you will see that has been discussed with varying experiences.

Brimfullofash · 18/10/2023 00:09

Preordeed on amazon and still not received. No email about it either

Brimfullofash · 18/10/2023 00:10

Oh just checked and it says it's arriving by 10pm today

Do you suspect that they eke out the dispatch dates to suppress the sales figures? Because they do somehow manage to have various books, known to be selling well, not charting. Nothing would surprise me about the world of book sales any more - it seems like a dirty old business.

I popped into waterstones for mine, there was £3 off so cheaper than Amazon.

I had to ask at the counter for it as it was hidden away in a deep dark corner. Hmm not very usual with best sellers!

CatChant · 18/10/2023 09:22

I’ve got mine direct from the publisher and it’s signed by Graham, which is a nice touch.

I’m enjoying reading about the creation of the wonderful Father Ted at the moment.

PersonIrresponsible · 18/10/2023 10:22

I heard him say they've had to order a second print run - hence the delay.

It has been "unexpectedly" popular!

(Meaning that us women are using it to quietly protest)

duc748 · 18/10/2023 12:55

All of which reminds me, time to step away from the laptop and read another couple of chapters! 😀

confusednotcom · 18/10/2023 17:43

I also got the delayed message from Amazon – I’ve cancelled my hardback from them and ordered it from Waterstones instead, and have also ordered the kindle version from Amazon!

Fubbs · 18/10/2023 18:46

Just cancelled my Amazon order, Blackwells have it so I've gone with them.

CryptoFascist · 18/10/2023 19:05

Thanks for reminding me to buy this - they can't delay my Kindle order!

Musomama1 · 18/10/2023 21:19

I've only got so far as his comedy career.

How I laughed when he unexpectedly mentions Richard Ayoade's rap in cult classic Darkplace. I remembered it exactly.

He's left out that he actually cameod in a later episode, and also in I'm Alan Partridge.

He really could fill this book twice over with his career in comedy and he's so far been quite self effacing.

I see a reference to the Chris Morris fansite that every day targets him like a bloodsport. I agree with him that they turned out to be lunatics didn't they. That's why I no longer go on there. I would love Chris Morris to endorse this book like Ayoade has.

If you buy direct from the publisher, the publisher, who has had the courage to publish it gets all the money. If you buy from waterstones or even better, a smaller bookseller actual humans are more likely to notice the demand & see the profit in gc books. I never, ever, buy books from amazon! I got mine a couple of weeks ago crom the publisher.

YokoOnosBigHat · 19/10/2023 06:44

My kindle version arrived as it should from the pre order but I guess they can't really withhold that.

Greenfairy2468 · 19/10/2023 09:44

Thanks everyone. I've cancelled my amazon order and ordered it from the publisher. Really looking forward to reading it

Excellent!

I’m halfway through my kindle version. It’s fantastic. Apparently Popbitch says it’s only sold 390! Grahams just tweeted that first run of 10,000 has sold out and it is reprinting. I know who I believe. There are many reasons to like GL and one of them is his honesty even when self deprecating which he often is. I don’t trust Amazon’s distribution seems a bit odd, and as for Waterstones keeping it hidden! That stupid review in the independent is forever at the top of searches. His Wikipedia is forever being changed from him being a supporter of women’s rights to being transphobic. It’s a battle and whenever the TRA’’s are challenged they show the victim card, so few etc. what rubbish they have positioned themselves in very powerful positions and are controlling information in a very authoritarian way. Thank goodness for mumsnet and gransnet. Common sense and bravery, no hate no phobia just keeping women and girls safe from this dangerous ideology.

Greenfairy2468 · 20/10/2023 13:43

I've just had message from the publisher to apologise that they've run out. And when they get them back in they need to sort the logistics for Graham to come in and sign them. But they could get an unsigned copy to me a bit quicker.

I said I'm happy to wait for a signed copy and I'm thrilled for Graham that it's doing so well 😁

My signed copy from the publisher arrived today 👏! I've cancelled my Amazon order for a second copy and have ordered from Blackwells instead

AlwaysHeadingWest · 20/10/2023 21:38

Just to reassure people, my copy ordered from Amazon, arrived a day early!

Brimfullofash · 21/10/2023 00:11

Mine now says dispatched from Amazon
