I pre ordered this book ages ago, just got an email from Amazon saying my order is delayed and they'll let me know when they'll despatch it.

Had this happened to anyone else? Is the publication delayed or have the not got enough??

And it’s a great read, reflective of great courage, and very clear on the issues surrounding how trans activism negatively impacts women’s rights and the safety of children. Also it’s an entertaining and funny read too.

Great read, gulped it down today. A warm, wounded and sometimes disturbing book.

Maybe I shouldn't have laughed quite as much as I did at the correction note under the Guardian review saying that it had originally called him British - 'he is Irish'. Bloody hell, sloppiness RUs. I do still subscribe to the Guardian because its particular brand of nonsense is imo less offensive than the Times or Telegraph, but sometimes it is incredibly obtuse.

@windypumpkin Don’t be too scared. If anyone is weird with you at the till (which they won’t be) claim innocence: “Oh I’m buying it for my aunt because she loves Father Ted!”

Great idea! OK thank you. Especially with Christmas coming up

NutellaEllaElla · 03/11/2023 08:42

I actually cringed reading that. Graham is brave and you're too scared to even borrow his book from the library. I'm no warrior but that takes the biscuit.

I used to buy Abba records “for my Mum”, to avoid embarrassment in the places we used to call record shops.

I had to like The Prodigy in secret, and record their songs off the radio, but not write the title in the cassette inlay card, as my friends were into guitar music and sneered at dance.

Picked my copy of the book up from Waterstones last night. Also Hags so a nice double bill there.

@NutellaEllaElla If she’s scared she’s scared. A lot of people are justifiably frightened of receiving abuse and discrimination for being GC. Encouragement and understanding works better than shame to foster future courage.

Muckspout · 03/11/2023 10:40

I have checked my county's library catalogue and Graham's book is not listed. I will put in a request.

I started looking at GC vs TRA titles which was interesting. There is only one copy of each GC book but TRA titles had multiple copies.

@windypumpkin I hope you get the book and enjoy reading it. You can order it directly from the publisher, Eye Books (just Google it). It's probably not the cheapest but they may send one with Glinner's signature. And they deliver it in a plain brown envelope 😊

1975wasthebest · 03/11/2023 10:53

I reserved a copy from my library and it should be ready to collect sometime next week. I would love to support him more, but I can’t justify spending approximately £15 for a book. Does anyone know if authors get any royalties every time a book of theirs gets loaned from libraries?

Yes, they do. PLR is a nice wee extra. And requesting from the library means others get to read it too.

Yes, it's called Public Lending Right. It's not the same as sales from a book purchase but it's definitely a good source of income.

HoisttheMainSail · 03/11/2023 11:54

I’ve just bought it on Audible.

It’s currently no 20 there in Biography, which is amazing since it’s only sold what, about 400 copies all in for print, Kindle and audiobook. It must be some kind of magic!

Cringe at me all you want. I'm new to the arguments. I'm not a warrior. I'm exploring what I think about it and this book has got me interested to find out more. I live in a very "woke" place and yes, I'm scared to borrow it from the library.

Thank you so much for that. It's not often I get upset by a comment on the Internet but that one got me. I am trying to learn more.

Oh! That sounds perfect then - thank you very much. And to others for their help.

Thanks for that info 👍

Amazon has gone weird in the last few weeks. My last two orders the delivery guy knocked and said “there’s a note on the system saying not to deliver this parcel to you and instead return to sender, is that right?” Bizarre. Totally uncontroversial items: children’s pencils. And my last order Amazon accepted the order then sent an email saying your return request has been accepted here is the refund etc. 🤷‍♀️

I assume they upgraded their IT and fucked it up

I would assume someone else is accessing your account and cancelling the items. I would change your password and make sure 2FA is enabled

No one has to justify reading a book. Not even Mein Kampf.
You don't have to be knowledgeable and secure in your opinions for or against something in order to read about it.

HandShoe · 03/11/2023 16:32

My library didn't have a copy and I couldn't order one as my card was out of date. I've just renewed my membership and gone to order a copy and I see someone has beat me to it - Tough Crowd is 'being acquired by the library'

I feel how I feel. I don't want to get into an argument with a shop seller. Or have the library system aware if I have borrowed it.

MrsMitford3 · 03/11/2023 16:37

I ordered mine from amazon and got it last week or so

Windy you could buy it from Apple Books (as a book or an audiobook) and then read/listen to it on your Mac, iPhone or iPad if you have one. You can do the same with the kindle version of the book even if you don’t have a kindle, there’s kindle app on iPad/iPhone 👍
