Transwoman on being in a woman's ward

''When it came to washing my body or clearing up after me, I was entirely dependent on nurses. They saw, wiped and dried every last inch of me.
A few days before my discharge, two nurses came to my bed, pulled the curtains closed for privacy and asked if I would mind telling them what it was like to be transgender.

We started chatting and at one point I said: “If you took every woman in this ward, stuck us all into stirrups and asked a gynae to take a good look, they wouldn’t be able to tell the difference between me and everyone.”

The nurses burst out laughing. “Oh, we know!” one of them exclaimed. “We’ve all been talking about it in the staff room. It looks just like the real thing!”'

...

'all humans begin their lives as female.'

I’m trans and fractured my spine – why don’t I belong on a women’s ward?

I look like a woman, sound like a woman and live as a woman, writes Diana Thomas. But the Conservatives believe, when in hospital, I don’t deserve the same kindness and compassion as other patients

So articles like that is where my ds got his information on all foetuses are feminine and if they don’t have enough testosterone then voila! they’re really women. Would be funny if it wasn’t so dangerous

It was theorised for a while that all foetuses begin their development on the female path and then at a certain point the males then diverted to the male development path, while the females carried on the female path.

However, in recent years, the understanding is that male foetuses never begin by going down the female path, it's just that the foestus at that stage of development are too underdeveloped to be able to tell the difference between a female foetus and a male foetus.

Of course, if you took a cell and tested it, you would be able to find out if a Y chromosone was present or not.

Therefore the now outdated 'all foetuses begin by going down the female delelopment path' is popular with some transwomen, no idea if it's as popular with transmen though!

I've been in hospital several times, both birth related and otherwise, including a couple of stats of up to 5 days. Never, during that, has anyone washed me, despite having GAs more than once. It's been a case of staggering to the shower once I've been up to it?!

Sex is decided at the point of conception and dependent on the sperm being either X or Y.

Foetuses are (let's say) in a neutral state with stem cells that can grow into either male or female genitalia, but the DNA for every cell is still sexed.

There is the theory that too much or too little testosterone that a foetus receives results in homosexual (and perhaps at the extreme end transsexual). But that is only true for homosexual transsexuals. Interestingly autism is believed to have come from a foetus having too much testosterone, so really autistic males are at the opposite end of the spectrum to homosexual transsexuals.

For the writer in the article he is a heterosexual man, so the testosterone to the foetus theory doesn't work for him. Dr Ray Blanchard knows what is at play here.

Many of these writers would like to pretend that they are homosexual transsexuals, not heterosexual transsexuals.

If the spinal fracture was one that could be treated with bed rest, the patient would need bed baths and also help using a bed pan/wiping etc. With a female patient that care could also include help with tampons/pads. I would imagine that a TW patient that needs to dilate regularly as part of the care of their neo-vagina would need help with that.

OvaHere · 08/10/2023 20:52

It's very convenient that neither hospitals or HCP's are allowed to comment publicly on claims made about them by patients.

Boiledbeetle · 08/10/2023 20:53

I know Sunday is the day lots of people go to church but god this thread is very holy!

What did I miss????

Or even holey!

As PP said, extensive photographic evidence of the results of genital surgery on transgender people can be found on the SRS and GRS thread on KF. A strong stomach is required, both for the content and for the idiom of the posters there. A lot of the results of surgery on both sexes are genuinely shocking, and some medically knowledgeable kiwi farmers will post detailed info about the poor workmanship and the experimental nature of the techniques which are used. There is no way that a lay person, let alone a gynae professional, would ever mistake neo sex organs for natal sex organs.

The existence of this sad fantasy is one thing, but its publication as fact in a national newspaper is another. Educate yourselves and do better, mainstream journalism.

Dilation. Another clue that sets those handcrafted artisanal vaginas apart from natural ones.

A male random is surely a mandom?

A Dandom lives in the Mandom

Do all the other biological women regularly go round hopping their legs up into stirrups & comparing their labia like a XX version of a penis measuring contest?

It's not that I would take part (because I believe it's the sort of thing only some weird perv would think of), but you know, it hurts a little that I wasn't at least invited.

Was it D Hayton who thought women’s status depended on their breast size?

lordloveadog · 08/10/2023 22:20

That's quite a fantasy! The 'totally dependent on nurses' theme is pretty icky, but the teenage breast bit made me very queasy.

Anyway, I've actually been seriously ill in hospital for long enough to need washing and can confirm that no one examined my underneath. In fact the HCPs who washed me were politely and professionally careful not to be staring at any part of my body, especially not the more private zones.

I'm not sure if you are aiming this at me RealityFan. I have been reading this board for several years although I don't post much. There are patterns and I recognise them. As I'm sure do most of people who have been here a long time.

It is no surprise to me that this thread attracted a certain kind of visitor. It seems I failed to convey that to you.

Just be plain speaking, rather than purposely vague.

Fwiw, the whole of the trans debate from the activists side is shrouded in cryptic arguing and obscurantist takes, that I'm immediately needled if people don't say what's on their mind and in their heart.

Indeed, I worry for all of us as the language that should bind us is mangled.

Yeah,I'd imagine it would be a bit of a giveaway.

I was plain speaking. I was not 'purposely' vague as you put it. I had already posted on the thread from which my views on this issue were clear. I was not 'mangling' language as you imply. I really don't know what sort of hair trigger you are on if you can misinterpret what I said to the point of thinking I was one of the unwelcome and now deleted 'visitors' I was referring to.

FarEast · 08/10/2023 23:22

Oh this is someone who has always disliked women. And seemingly has very little understanding of women’s physiology. We’re not just walking vaginas, whatever some men fantasise.

This person spent a long writing career trying to undermine feminist arguments, and their latest project is the performance element of the bigger endeavour.

Grin beautifully put

What's that expression I'm searching for... Oh yes - "Cool story bro' " Hmm

This. It sounds like a male fantasy rather than something that actually happened.

RainWithSunnySpells · 08/10/2023 17:39

Yes, they are different.

I'm sure there was a thread on here once where someone was looking at an art project of plaster cast vulvas and they thought that some were FGM, only they turned out to be post-op TW. If you find that project, the differences between natal and neo-vaginas are clear.

Would that be MGM? Albeit voluntary.

"Bat signal", "I wonder what it is about this thread that brings the visitors"?

I take that as a slight that GCs on MN are easily triggered, and you really don't know why.

Apologies if I've misinterpreted, but surely you do know why we would get riled by a major piece of provocative male entitlement. Hell, I'm a male, and he pisses me off royally.

Bat signal? A piece in MSM mopping his egotistical brow. It's a bat signal aimed at eyes of every woman out there. He wants you all to know he can lord it over female staff, patients...and readers.

Yes, you have misinterpreted my post RealityFan. And I'm puzzled that you still seem to be hammering away at that particularly strained construction.

'Bat signal' has long been used as shorthand on this board to refer to the influx of trans activists who descend on MN threads, particularly threads about a certain kind of TW.

You are a prolific poster on this board and I am surprised that you did not pick up the reference. Perhaps in your 'needled' state you are on transmit rather than receive. Oh well.

Incidentally I find your use of 'GCs' rather offensive. I have gender critical views. I am not 'a GC'.

Just like men have their penis measuring contests these "altered" men think women do the same. When they find out that sane, normal women do not do this, they get very upset because they need that affirmation. If it was done, they'd be highly disappointed and then mad that everyone wasn't clapping for them.

Of course we aren't. In their minds we are also slutty dresses, big boobs, head tilts and garish makeup. Oh, and we are obsessed with our genitals and boobs and if someone is SSA, too obsessed with genitals since they should be open to female penises and are transphobic if they aren't. Ditto the other way with SSA men who aren't interested in a bonus hole.
