Rishi Sunak - "a man is a man, a woman is a woman"

..and how we shouldn't be bullied into believing somebody can be any sex that they want.

https://vm.tiktok.com/ZGJcxUehh/

AIBU to want to give him a round of applause?

I know, it's convenient timing and obviously a strategy move but how good is it to hear that straight from the horses mouth when the country has spent the past god knows how long bowing down to the loud and often disturbed minority.

I still can't stand the Tories and won't be voting for them but cheers for acknowledging the insanity, Rishi.

So @Tandora and the like.

What safeguarding do you think adult human females should have in the light of known issues with trans women in women's single sex spaces?

Or are a few women harmed A-OK/ just collateral damage?

Why are the feelings of trans women (males) more important than those of women (females)?

AdamRyan · 04/10/2023 23:44

ketchup07070 · 04/10/2023 23:24

@AdamRyan Starmer actually sounds quite sensible and measured in that article. Have never been a fan of Starmer, but he seems to speak thoughtfully rather than just giving it the old bombast, iyswim.

I'm not a labour voter usually, but I've been a fan of Starmer since he was DPP. He actually did something to help rape victims and victims of CSA at that time.

I also think it's pretty amazing he's managed to turn Labour into a credible opposition in the 4 years since Corbyn lost the last GE in a landslide.

Really don't see how there is any question who is more suited to be PM out of him and Sunak.

IF that is true (the mysterious “data” says so after all) maybe it’s because being gaslighted your whole life, miserable in your body, confused as a child, excluded from sports, forced to go through an unwanted puberty, made to wear gendered clothes you hate, ridiculed, forced to hide your real self, suffered unchecked mental health issues, sexualised and ignored, makes you really really fucking angry.
It certainly makes you suicidal.
I wonder what the data says about that.

It's Ministry of Justice data. Nothing 'mysterious' about it.

And it’s not as though it’s a small effect either. Transwomen offend at massively higher rates than normal men.

Saggypants · 04/10/2023 23:46

Thementalloadisreal · 04/10/2023 23:30

Do all trans women pose the same threat to women as males? Really? At all points during medical transition?

Surely it works both ways, it’s not Trans women’s jobs to come up with ways to protect women, especially if we continue to “other” them and not work together on tackling our shared fears and threats.

How can a marginalised group make any impact or change while their mere existence is being “debated” constantly in the press?

Women and trans women do NOT have the same set of fears and threats.

Since the dawn of time, the subjugation of women is 100% due to our biology. Nobody can identify their way in or out of it.

Nobody is debating the existence of trans people ffs, that is a tired old trope.

Thementalloadisreal · 04/10/2023 23:47

KevinTurveyIsMissed · 04/10/2023 23:44

I don’t really care what leads them to be so dangerous, it’s still no reason to allow them to invade female spaces.

Given how psychological issues cluster though it’s not surprising that men who like to pretend to be women have other issues too.

🤦🏻‍♀️one last time for the cheap seats at the back…

We don’t have to allow men into women’s spaces they just walk in and attack us anyway

axolotlfloof · 04/10/2023 23:47

90% of males could kill 90% of females with their bare hands.
'Transwomen' are males.
They are not at any more risk than other men.
I would say autistic men, and elderly men are more vulnerable but we don't invite them in the ladies.

It would appear so. Shame they have nothing new. Just the same tired, debunked arguments.

I'm waiting for someone to really go old skool and bring up clownfish.

Tandora · 04/10/2023 23:49

OvaHere · 04/10/2023 23:39

Because it's in response to idiots given a platform to insist that people can change sex, who then lobby for legislation that reflects this erroneous belief which harms women and girls.

Women didn't just wake up one morning and decide to start banging on about the immutability of sex. It was in response to a huge attack on our rights that was brought to our door.

Who cares about their “platform” if what they are platforming is literally impossible?
Remember that scene in the life of Brian where one of the male characters gets really wound up about his right to give birth… funny eh?

So what is it that you are so afraid of / angry about really…?

ketchup07070 · 04/10/2023 23:49

@AdamRyan I'm coming round to him the more I read about Labour's plans. There's a lot about VAWG, the treatment of women by Police and in the NHS and gender pay gap, plus he seems to understand why we need single sex spaces. He was so non descript for ages (in my view), but I think he night be maturing into a credible PM.

You're on another planet if you think Rishi means a single fucking word he says, and wouldn't say the exact opposite tomorrow if he thought it would get him broader support. You might as well applaud a flipped coin for landing on heads. Or tails.

This is such a silly argument. Say, for example, you were sentenced to prison. Would you be happy to be put in the male prison? Of course not. There are women's prisons and many other female only places to REDUCE the risk of harm to females.

You appear to be conveniently ignoring the latter part of the sentence.

Actually a lot of people on this thread are debating their existence.. “Trans women are men” etc. There is a lot of trans erasure here.

I didn’t say we face the same threats and fears but that we have some shared ones.

We ask men to be feminists, to speak up and help us against male violence, but we are too busy demonising all trans women rather than asking them the same.

FGS the social contract has changed. Men can now walk into women's single sex spaces if they identify as women. And any man who says he is a woman now is one else transphobia.

A few years ago this didn't and couldn't happen.

The fact that a trans woman in patient raped a woman in patient in an NHS hospital was inconceivable a few years ago as was:

Karen white (trans woman) being given access to sexual assault victims in a women's prison.

etc.

For those in the cheap seats at the back

The fact that some men harm women is not a reason to remove safeguarding it's reason to enhance it.

When we KNOW that some trans women are using this to harm women we don't say 'oh come on in'.

FFS.

It’s not erasing anyone to point out that transwomen are men who are pretending to be women.

Up until only four or five years ago this wasn’t a controversial claim.

This assertion now that a man in a dress is actually female isn’t erasure, it’s just a simple statement of fact.

Well of course the Tories know who a woman is. How else would they know how to disadvantage women with their policies which make it harder to be a single parent (mostly women), working parents with more childcare responsibilities (mostly women), disabled (higher proportion are women) etc etc etc

Knowing who a woman is is not the same as making policies that make life better for women.

This - thank you for articulating it
