Rishi Sunak - "a man is a man, a woman is a woman"

..and how we shouldn't be bullied into believing somebody can be any sex that they want.

https://vm.tiktok.com/ZGJcxUehh/

AIBU to want to give him a round of applause?

I know, it's convenient timing and obviously a strategy move but how good is it to hear that straight from the horses mouth when the country has spent the past god knows how long bowing down to the loud and often disturbed minority.

I still can't stand the Tories and won't be voting for them but cheers for acknowledging the insanity, Rishi.

Oh ffs. Mumsnet is the most transphobic social media site I’ve personally experienced. This thread is a perfect example. Stop gaslighting everyone.

It's not transphobic to point out that human beings can't change sex and that women should be kept safe from any male, what ever their gender identity.

If you think it is is then you need to give your head a wobble?

Or do you just not care about the woman who was raped by a transwoman in an NHS hospital or Karen White's victim? What are those women ? Collateral damages to the demands of a subset of males?

Ponoka7 · 04/10/2023 23:19

Penny Mordaunt doesn't agree. She argued over pregnant people being put into the parliament maternity bill that it delayed it and messed up Suella Braverman's leave. She had support from other Tory MPs so not everyone agrees with Rishi.

Yes it is transphobic. You are quite evidently transphobic. This whole thread is transphobic.

As I said upthread if what you claim - it’s not possible for human beings to change sex - is irrefutably true, there’s really nothing for you to be so threatened by/ worried about.

Because you’re making ridiculous sweeping generalisations about the physical abilities of large groups of people.

It's not a generalisation. It's a FACT.

Why because we don't believe that the wishes of males should be put before our safety?

Where is the transphobia please?

Is it that we are not socialised well enough to do exactly what every male tells us to? Even if it harms us?

TeenLifeMum · 04/10/2023 23:23

I work in the nhs and spend far too much time discussing whether we can use the word “women” but no one ever challenges the use of the word men. I’m happy for the obvious to be stated by the prime minister because it’s helpful in those conversations.

will I vote conservative in the next election? No! Am I happy to have such clarity from the person currently leading our country? Yes!

ketchup07070 · 04/10/2023 23:24

@AdamRyan Starmer actually sounds quite sensible and measured in that article. Have never been a fan of Starmer, but he seems to speak thoughtfully rather than just giving it the old bombast, iyswim.

Thementalloadisreal · 04/10/2023 23:10

So trans women are at risk of male violence and women are at risk of male violence but you think the solution is to exclude trans women from the places they could be safe from the male violence that we all face.

Give your head a wobble

Transwomen are male, and the data suggest that they offend at far greater rates than other males.

perfect example of a disgustingly transphobic statement for all those crying “no transphobia to see here!”

TeenLifeMum · 04/10/2023 23:26

I would add that I fully respect someone’s right to identify as male or female but the word “trans” is really important in providing clarity re sex and gender. Trans men can get womb cancer because biologically they are female in sex terms. Without trans in the title, those vulnerable individuals are known as men and could miss vital medical checks.

Policing your posts? I don't think it's me who doesn't know what forums are about. It's called responding to a public post.

fora, not forums.

and in the grand scheme of things, who gives a fuck about culture wars, only generated for voters to be exploited, when the world is simultaneously burning and sinking?

Apart from all those violent men who like to punch and make rape and death threats to women who say it's not possible for anyone to change sex.

Or all the people willing to collude in having women arrested and their livelihoods destroyed for saying it's not possible to change sex.

You really expect us to care about being called transphobic this deep into the war on women?

SecondClassReturnToDottinghamPlease · 04/10/2023 23:27

Does this mean that the next time a GC woman is arrested for a "hate crime" they can quote Rishi and get let off?

YokoOnosBigHat · 04/10/2023 23:28

Charlie Brooker wrote this about David Cameron back in 2007 (see below), but the exact same vibe. Sunak will literally say whatever he thinks people want to hear. He doesn't deserve a round of applause. He would say the sky was green if he thought people would vote for him because of it.

There is nothing to him. He is like a hollow Easter egg with no bag of sweets inside. Cameron will say absolutely anything if he thinks it might get him elected. If a shock poll was published saying 99% of the British public were enthusiastic paedophiles, he would drive through the streets in an open-top bus surrounded by the Mini Pops. He's nothing. He's no one.

It's notoriously tricky to find out much about his past, in the same way that Morgan Freeman and Brad Pitt found it tricky to find out much about the serial killer John Doe in the movie Se7en. He'd managed to erase his entire existence, even slicing the skin off his fingers to avoid leaving prints. Ever seen a close-up of Cameron's fingertips? Of course not. Think about it.

As the mother of a transgender daughter who I am extremely proud of for her courage in being who she wants to be I am utterly disgusted by his remarks, and by a lot of the hateful comments on here

How is claiming to be a man “being who she wants to be”?

Can’t she just accept that she’s a tomboy?

Thementalloadisreal · 04/10/2023 23:30

lifeturnsonadime · 04/10/2023 23:16

No you give yours a wobble.

Women want to exclude trans women from single sex spaces because they are male and pose a risk to women in the same way that every other male does.

There is now evidence of this from various sources but the most pertinent ones are the trans woman (male) raping a woman on a single sex ward and the victims of Karen White (transwoman / male) who sexually assaulted incarcerated women in a women's prison.

If transwomen are at risk from males then they will understand presumably women's concerns about this? Why don't they?

Why do they think that women are less important in terms of safety than they are?

Why don't they campaign for 3rd spaces so everyone feels safe? Or is it just that male socialisation which means that they think that women should put themselves at risk to shield some males. NO THANK YOU.

Women are too important.

My daughter is as important as my son.

This comes as a surprise no doubt to those males who have been brought up to believe that their wishes are the most important thing, Male socialisation writ large.

Do all trans women pose the same threat to women as males? Really? At all points during medical transition?

Surely it works both ways, it’s not Trans women’s jobs to come up with ways to protect women, especially if we continue to “other” them and not work together on tackling our shared fears and threats.

How can a marginalised group make any impact or change while their mere existence is being “debated” constantly in the press?
