Rishi Sunak - "a man is a man, a woman is a woman"

..and how we shouldn't be bullied into believing somebody can be any sex that they want.

https://vm.tiktok.com/ZGJcxUehh/

AIBU to want to give him a round of applause?

I know, it's convenient timing and obviously a strategy move but how good is it to hear that straight from the horses mouth when the country has spent the past god knows how long bowing down to the loud and often disturbed minority.

I still can't stand the Tories and won't be voting for them but cheers for acknowledging the insanity, Rishi.

Actually there’s a huge movement of people with disabilities , of various types , trying to challenge various assumptions about human development.

it would be entirely a inaccurate to say that all people have two legs, just as it’s innacurate to say that all human bodies fit into binary biological sex classifications.

A conversation about sex is entirely relevant to a conversation about gender, which is why this topic is for “sex and gender discussions” and why people consistently route their objections to trans people in absolutist definitions of sex.

That's not what I said though is it?

Are people with disabilities saying their disability means humans as a species are not bipedal? No, I didn't think so.

I don’t want “mixed sex” toilets, I want trans people along with all other people to have a safe and comfortable place to go to the toilet.

You , and others on this thread, can continue to insist that we all share your use of language and your absolutist definition of “sex” but at some point you are going to have to accept that we don’t.

So you agree with my idea then? It provides trans people along with all other people to have a safe and comfortable place to go to the toilet.

i haven’t insisted anything about language. I have however used language correctly ( though not always brilliant punctuation I must admit). Just because you choose to pretend biology isn’t real, and that because some people have physical problems meaning they cannot reproduce it means there is another sex or something - I didn’t really follow whatever the hell you were saying there but it seemed offensive to those people - doesn’t mean I have to accept that as reality.

Julia Serrano?

Here is Julia mansplaining feminism:

'“[U]ntil feminists work to empower femininity and pry it away from the insipid, inferior meanings that plague it - weakness, helplessness, fragility, passivity, frivolity, and artificiality - those meanings will continue to haunt every person who is female and/or feminine.” '

Fuck off, Julia.

What really? You disagree that femininity is seen as culturally less valuable than masculinity?? This is the stuff patriarchy is build on… I thought you were a feminist?

“When I use a word,’ Humpty Dumpty said in rather a scornful tone, ‘it means just what I choose it to mean — neither more nor less.’

’The question is,’ said Alice, ‘whether you can make words mean so many different things.’

’The question is,’ said Humpty Dumpty, ‘which is to be master — that’s all.”

what does that mean to say “humans as a species are bipedal”? Why is it so important to you to state this?
The vast majority of humans have two legs. Some people don’t. Both types of people are just as valid. That’s all there is to it.

LadyWithLapdog · 05/10/2023 20:07

I wanted to address the stereotype above about transwomen. It may depend on context. I meet some occasionally in a professional capacity and the ones I have met have blended in well, really unassuming. They may be loud, flamboyant and all in pink at the weekends, but so are many others when in party mode.

I disagree with your premise that toilets are either “mixed sex” or trans exclusionary. I’m confortable with female toilets that welcome trans women (the current stage of play at large), I really don’t like sharing toilets with men.

Because you have spent most of this thread arguing that sex is not binary in humans when it's every bit as factual as humans being a bipedal species. The fact that a tiny number of people are born with a DSD or in the case of the latter, without legs, does not change what we know to be true about humans.

No-one has said that people born with a physiological difference are less valid than anyone else.
You are twisting things for your own narrative.

I am a woman.

Nothing I wear denotes this.
Nothing I do denotes this.
No-one I am attracted to denotes this.

I am a woman because I have the the female physiology that I was born with.

The 'gender' you describe, the look of the 'transwoman', is based on outdated and misogynistic stereotyping.

I have yet to see a transwoman that isn't pouting thick lipstick, displaying giant talons and brandishing a whimsical handbag, wearing pink, pink, red, pink.. It's just bullshit. That is NOT being a woman. Very very very few women dress this way. A vast vast majority of transwomen dress this way. It's a stereotype. It's degrading to women.

I have met several TW who aren't like that at all. I think they might just be the ones you notice.

ketchup07070 · 05/10/2023 20:16

I think femininity has had huge cultural value. Hence all the nudes in art, the eulogy to the feminine virtues of the angel in the house, the virgin Mary and the whore of Babylon. What's it all about? Women are the only sex who can bear and feed children, hence the complicated pedestal they are put upon and all the restrictions of their freedoms and all the control placed upon them. None of that is good for women, but femininity has been hugely important in the subjugation of them.

Genetics determines sex

I think I’ve said what I have to say on this topic and the posts are there to read . We are going round in circles, it’s certainly not that simple, as you acknowledge yourself when you briefly reference “disorders of sex development”,

it really is. a dsd does not a third sex or a spectrum make any more than a person who was born with no legs stops us being a bipedal species.

yes, and again I don’t understand your point or comparator.
Why is it so important to you to emphasise that “humans as a species are bipedal” when there are people who only have one or no legs??
Equally , why is it so important to you to say “sex is binary in humans” when there are people who bodies dont fit biological Classifications of male and female?
the vast majority of people have two legs , some people don’t,.
the vast majority of people can be classified as either male or female. Some people can’t.

You're so clearly wrong. If a male person is allowed in toilets as well as women they're mixed sex. An entry requirement for bring TW is that they're men.

I've not see you give a definition of sex which means men are now women. can you that? I mean an actual definition not 'it's complicated waffle'. then tell me how that definition applies to say, dogs. Or do you tbink we should reserve a different definition of sex to all other mammalian species?

no one said anyone is not valid. stop with the hyperbole. It's just silly. People with one leg ate obviously valid and human. There is much value in being able to describe and categorise being's characteristics. why is that so threatening to you?

dsds are very rare. trans people are not people with dsds. they are people who very much fit into the sex binary: Tw are male.

No, you're wrong. And statements that you put out that are wrong need to be called out as wrong. Every time.
All humans are male or female. No exceptions except for the vanishingly small 0.015% intersex. And no, don't confuse these with DSD disorders, incorrectly called intersex, who are, as everyone else, male or female, just with genital development approximating the other sex.
Caster Semsnya's internal testicles in no way makes him a woman.

So, come back to us when you have incontrovertible facts, not feelz masquerading as "facts".

well she doesn’t get to decide “what I mean”. I’ve been perfectly clear about what I mean and that’s all there is to say about it.

When people say things like “I see you”, I find it threatening and creepy.

when people say I welcome TW into women's toilets and when they insulting and belittle women who don't want make bodied people in their spaces I find it more then threatening and creepy. Your privilege is showing.

Absolutely this.
Tandora is out of facts, but full of ideas.
Every time a TRA tries it on with adults who know their science, they're destroyed. The only time Tandora's narrative gets any traction is when it's with a captured "journalist", like Veronica Ivy's recent car crash interview with Trevor Noah.
