NC for this.
For a long time I have always said to myself if a LWS event came near to me, the least I could do was go along and show solidarity. Seeing what has happened elsewhere has made me so angry, it would be time to stand up and be counted.

Now there is an event next week, and I'm really surprised how nervous, even scared I am about going along just to listen, and really just wanted to reach out for advice, support, whatever.

I'm worried about the vitriol of protesters, the attitude of the police. I have worked in pretty 'captured' sectors and am concerned about being identified on social media, or by acquaintances - I'm fairly sure there'll be old contacts, people I like and who I have had time for - protesting or certainly vocally supporting the shutting down of KJK on the day. I guess I personally run the risk of being publicly 'outed' and losing friends and contacts that will have a real impact on things I do that mean a great deal to me.

Yet I feel if I don't go I will always regret not standing up and showing KJK support on my doorstep. I'm even worried about DM-ing the local Women's Rights Network as I tweet with my full name. Perhaps if anyone is on this board they can PM here, or give some info about plans for the day?

Sorry I haven't seen any threads about this LWS event so apologies if there is one already.

Great pics, Rebellious!

BingBongSong · 08/10/2023 20:39

Thank you for posting the photos @RebelliousCow . I went to WPUK in Liverpool when Posie originally posted her billboard (2018?), was sorry that I couldn't make it today.

Given what's gone on in the past (Joe Anderson shouting down Sarah from Resisters and trying to make all public toilets mixed sex), I didn't have much hope for Merseyside Police. How were they?

Pixiedust1234 · 08/10/2023 20:47

In those last photos did I really see a placard say
"If im not a woman why am I so pretty?"

😳

Yep! Do they not realise that men can be pretty?

@JanesLittleGirl

Love your work! Truly!

IcakethereforeIam · 08/10/2023 21:03

@Boiledbeetle that placard isn't even original. It's, at best, a riff on which went something like, 'if God hates gays, why am I so cute?' I think it was used at demonstrations against Westboro Baptist Church.

I'm not sure any of their signs that aren't death threats are original!

I mean for a start will someone tell her that Angels aren't real. Then we can maybe address the boys and pussy situation!

Likewise, "Communicate and Educate" is pretty rich coming from people who come with klaxons and jeering and loud-hailers, attempting to make sure that nobody (including themselves of course) can hear at all. It's almost like nobody's really thought this through!

NancyDrawed · 08/10/2023 21:20

Great Pictures @RebelliousCow

I've seen myself, but happy for them to stay. I was less happy to show my face my at Birmingham LWS but now I just think, fuck it!

I tried to get a photo of a sign written in a pizza box - complete with grease blobs - which caught my add. Points for recycling, though, I suppose!

IcakethereforeIam · 08/10/2023 21:23

@Boiledbeetle everyone should have a pussy

Most were fine and friendly to be honest. There were one or two who were very antagonistic, though...which was quite upsetting. It feels quite scary if you feel the police are against you too. It was an exhausting few hours, but all of the attendees seemed determined, and able, to keep a level of detachment and perspective on the surrounding madness and noise.

I was in the chamber for Sarah's speech, too.😀

These boring, overprivileged kids have never done anything original in their lives.

BlackForestCake · 08/10/2023 21:45

I mean I have very little time for the Labour Party or anyone in it but surely all those people could have been having discussions in the conference centre even slightly more productive that standing outside shouting abuse at women?

Yes, and what was quite funny is that he was wearing a mask which meant we couldn't see whether he was pretty or not.

RebelliousCow · 08/10/2023 21:48

Lots of conference attendees in suits walked by the gathering. One man ( mid thirties) was very disapproving of the assembled crowd and declared " What a mess !". It is not a mess, I said, " It's democracy"

Every attendee at conference seems to have their own specific agenda or pet hobby horse. On the bridge that leads to the conference centre there were lots of Labour actvists handing out flyers promoting proportional representation, for example; I overheard others talking about corporate profits as they walked to the hall.

Posie made the point, if it could be heard by the mob, that Kier Stramer had turned his back on the working classes and they should be more up in arms about that......

IwantToRetire · 08/10/2023 22:17

I have to say that having eventually got the link to listen I ended up being quite depressed.

I thought the way women kept on speaking despite the ongoing chanting was fantastic, and that a number of women made the point about the protestors being inadequate white middles class twats who I suspect honestly couldn't care whether any of it made sense. It was just another day out of male bonding and attempting to aggrandise it as being politically cutting edge.

But it was so obviously from their mysoginistic incel behaviour that you could have a woman tearing her heart out with some true life story and they just wouldn't care. All this is about is legitimising menintimidating women (well trying to and not suceeding).

Maybe in the days to come some who haven't reallly been aware of this and will see the optics, but I suspect this will not get much public response.

Not in anyway thinking KJK should stop putting on LWS, but so long as there is an endless supply of self righteous antifas, who the "grown ups" (ie the Labour Party) dont challenge, it will just be a never ending ritual.

These events allow they to be publicly woman hating.

IcakethereforeIam · 08/10/2023 22:20

But still we rise Smile

IwantToRetire · 08/10/2023 22:20

my kids are always going on about the "blue haired weirdos" it's a definite stereotype nowadays

Just one of the many things that I hate about this lot.

I always thought as I got older I would have fun changing my hair to unlikely colours, but now that that has been colonised by TRAs I feel I cant.

The inner punk that I never was brave enough to be at the time, is just a tiny bit cross.

Or maybe I should try for a sophisticated set of green, white and purple stripes.

Boiledbeetle · 08/10/2023 21:12

An adaptation of the much more common slogan "a girl without a dick is like an angel without wings".

BaronMunchausen · 08/10/2023 22:36

The men who seemed to be delegates, who were bellowing abuse at a women’s meeting, are paid by union or constituency members to represent them at Conference.

Those members are surely entitled to know that their representatives were calling women c**nts and fascists in public. And the Labour Party should have a zero-tolerance approach to misogyny and discipline them.

With those points in mind, photos and videos should be sent to the Labour Party. Many of those abusive men are clearly identifiable. Though what they’re yelling isn’t necessarily audible on the videos, it's clear that they're shouting down women and there are witnesses who can attest to the content of their vitriol.

Go for it!

I know someone who has a gorgeous purple and green dye, done in layers so one colour completely covers the other until she moves her head or puts her hair up. I'd love to do similar, but it does require dead straight hair - which mine is definitely not.
