NC for this.
For a long time I have always said to myself if a LWS event came near to me, the least I could do was go along and show solidarity. Seeing what has happened elsewhere has made me so angry, it would be time to stand up and be counted.

Now there is an event next week, and I'm really surprised how nervous, even scared I am about going along just to listen, and really just wanted to reach out for advice, support, whatever.

I'm worried about the vitriol of protesters, the attitude of the police. I have worked in pretty 'captured' sectors and am concerned about being identified on social media, or by acquaintances - I'm fairly sure there'll be old contacts, people I like and who I have had time for - protesting or certainly vocally supporting the shutting down of KJK on the day. I guess I personally run the risk of being publicly 'outed' and losing friends and contacts that will have a real impact on things I do that mean a great deal to me.

Yet I feel if I don't go I will always regret not standing up and showing KJK support on my doorstep. I'm even worried about DM-ing the local Women's Rights Network as I tweet with my full name. Perhaps if anyone is on this board they can PM here, or give some info about plans for the day?

Sorry I haven't seen any threads about this LWS event so apologies if there is one already.

It's the modern way. Look at Tommy Robinson, punters send him a small fortune.

He's a div too, but don't think he asks for fluffy toys.
It's fine to ask for 'buy me a coffee' if you're an artist or something or doing good works but these are men asking people to fund Turkey teeth etc and pay their utility bills because they are too entitled to graft.

RebelliousCow · 13/10/2023 21:36

It appears that the group 'Frog Dylan' who were very pleased with themselves to be abusing women on Sunday - have been abandoned by the promoter of their up-coming gig.

Somehow it is gratifying to discover that free speech means being accountable for TRAs and their hangers on too.

WickedSerious · 13/10/2023 21:46

Ohyoudodoyou · 13/10/2023 17:09

I'm devastated for them.

duc748 · 13/10/2023 22:00

'Turkey teeth' had me stumped for a minute, but yeah, I get it. 😀If one thing's a growth industry these days, it's grifting. Trump led the way there, of course, amongst others. Glad to see that odious individual isn't benefiting from his actions.

Ohyoudodoyou · 14/10/2023 07:35

One more update on the band Frog Dylan, who will forever be tainted on Merseyside's very close knit music scene...this is their new account and their explanation as to why they felt it necessary to turn up to abuse 'non males' -

Oh my goodness. How could they have actually made themselves look worse? "Doxxed" by the "alt-right"? For being recognisable figures in a public place?! Thought they were 'norrarsed'!

"Non-male people"? A 'Posie Parker is a fascist' website link as 'proof" of their virtue? Throwing their dodgy band mate under the bus to save their skins because of said 'alt right' doxxing? Telling people to donate to Stonewall, natch.

Idiots.

Good god.

'non male people'

Fuck that.

BaronMunchausen · 14/10/2023 09:02

Unfortunately they may have been cancelled because of the transphobic tweet rather than because they abused women.

Froodwithatowel · 14/10/2023 09:08

Well 'non male people' is about as transphobic as you can get really, what with its naming sex and binary thinking, as well as being extreme end misogynist prick.

I think the 'how to make an absolute twit of yourself in three words or less' prize has a winner.

Ohyoudodoyou · 14/10/2023 09:15

Can't believe they've been cancelled, they were such a great band, too if their game..great values too...
#letgobshitessing

Jokers aside, I hope this message gets out as all the responses to the tweets are from angry women, not the 'alt right' as they suggest. Let's hope virtue signalling musicians think before they jump on this boring bandwagon of sexism. Billy Bragg is a goner but he's irrelevant now.

Helleofabore · 14/10/2023 09:15

Their behaviour was appalling and they are proud of it. So the ‘cancelling’ is because of their percussionist/tambourine man’s tweets. Yet they have no fucking idea about what they fronted up for.

Like so many other protesters it is all about protesting the hyperbolic ‘fash ’ and ‘alt right’ lies and not once listening to what is being said. If Frog Dylan band members had done their research as they said they did on the tweet, they would have listened to the women speaking at the events. Instead they joined in the hyperbolic mantraing crowd. The crowd who do no research at all. Just like Dr Jonny at the university of Edinburgh protest about a book he didn’t bother to read.

These protestors make themselves look ridiculous every time. Their authoritarian and totalitarian outlook is so much closer to the insults they scream but they cannot see it for the head of steam blocking their view.

non-male people - fuck! If any person repeating that refrain cannot see the inherent misogyny in that description, they are clearly incapable of thinking for themselves.

starfruittree · 14/10/2023 09:31

One thing I don't get - a non-exhaustive list, obv - is the attempt here, and by that moron outside Filia, to try and cover the cameras of anyone coming near them they think is on the 'wrong' side. (There's a picture on socials of that Tom guy reaching towards the camera like Chris Martin, but bit more likely he was trying to stop a nasty wimmin snapping him, surely).

It's a public place so it all cuts no dice.
They call it 'doxxing' as if something sinister is going on. They want to control every angle and get so angry when they can't.

OP posts:
Ohyoudodoyou · 14/10/2023 09:56

Tom Harlow is Cabaret Against Hate Speech. He's the one that centres himself on all of these videos and turns up and Christ why on earth does he think he should be singing in public with that voice? Just another man in the 'arts' desperate to garner attention all because he never got a big role on stage.
All the same. We are women with full lives, jobs, caring responsibilities, homes to run, bills to pay and we have to live with constant oppression and harassment from men but we are dignified and support other women. Tom, Ashley, Sam, Billy - all on the make to frantically make it about them, the constant need for validation on social media.
I feel nothing but revulsion for them, i see them as less than men.

BaronMunchausen · 14/10/2023 09:58

Yes I thought doxxing involved giving out someone's address.

As happened to KJK.

RebelliousCow · 14/10/2023 10:08

There was also two men at the Liverpool LWS event who perform in an act called 'Jollyboat' - in which they sings 'funny' protest songs - an act they tours the country with. One occasionally wears a dress and so uses he/she pronouns.

RebelliousCow · 14/10/2023 10:12

I'm well and truly sick of the repetition of "manipulated by right wing press" comments. They haven't got a clue. Women have been organising for years - long before the media would even go near the issue. This tired old narrative simply feeds into their, ironic, binary view of the world - with morally righteous Left wing warriors versus neo fascists and bigots.

Ohyoudodoyou · 14/10/2023 10:18

This thread has shown us that there are consequences for these women haters, and I'm delighting in it all on Twitter today, as I lounge around with my coffee, my conscience clear.
So many women have been afraid to speak up and these men know it and use it to elbow their way in to shout loudly so attention is in them. Well, they have the attention now, perhaps not quite in the way they expected. I bet they thought they'd all be lauded in the pub with "well done for standing up against fascists, you're a true hero/socialist/good all round bloke" instead the Frogs have to take time out for their 'mental health' - fucking weaklings.
You lie with dogs, you get fleas.

starfruittree · 14/10/2023 10:21

Haha, that's given me a laugh - love the comment: "Is Tom Harlow about to #frogdylan himself?" Grin

The FILIA event this weekend has been going for a decade...
Women have been meeting as women only and lesbian only groups for many years, more recently mostly unbothered. Not one event can take place in the UK without men barging in like Jack Nicholson in the bathroom in 'The Shining'!

IcakethereforeIam · 14/10/2023 11:29

I've not seen anything about the mantrams in any press, except perhaps of Humza having a word.

I'm assuming the 🐸 Dylan croak was the start of a long self pitying and self abasing thread. I don't think I need to see the whole thing. I've seen it too many times before.

It can mean both, but it's traditionally been used for identifying individuals on messageboards such as this

RebelliousCow · 14/10/2023 15:34

I think there is a difference, though, between taking photos at a public event and then some of those people being recognised and named, which is what has happened here; and giving out someone's home address.

If you appear in public then you do have to take responsibility for what you do in public. None of the women were disguising their identity with the use of face masks; and none of the women were chantimg obscenities and hateful abuse at people continually for three hours.

I've got lots of photos of the event, and given that I live in the city in which it was held, I'm bound to come across some of that mob again, at some point. I'm sure there are a good few I would recognise again - face masks or not. At some point they will have to be accountable and answerable for their behaviour.

Lande · 14/10/2023 16:18

There is a difference, but they both fall under the umbrella term 'doxxing'.

The more it happens the more likely you are to see people turning up at events with their faces covered, especially if/when the police are given permission to use face recognition on a larger scale in the future.

It is a tenet of freedom much like free speech, that an individual should be able to keep their identity private if they so please. Doxxing people, whether they are on your side or not isn't a good thing.
